I haven't tried it with firewalld or the newer nftables, but old
iptables could set rules based on user ID. I'd expect nftables also
implemented that, and firewalld could handle it in some fashion
(possibly a rich rule). With that, you could limit HTTP access to root
(I think cups runs as root).

CVE or not, we don't really wait around for a CVE to push updates. The
6.1.5 kernels are in updates-testing right now.

I believe that this bug might actually be a security vulnerability and
therefore might need to be treated as such, with the usual CVE dance. Look:

https://utcc.utoronto.ca/~cks/space/blog/linux/KernelBindBugIn6016

As mentioned at that link, this could lead to a process unexpectedly listening
on 0.0.0.0 (and thus being reachable from outside) instead of listening only on
127.0.0.1 or not listening at all.

Re: F38 proposal: IPP-USB as a weak dependency of CUPS and sane-airscan (Self-Contained Change proposal)

2023-01-13 Thread Robert Marcano via devel

On 1/12/23 1:15 PM, Ben Cotton wrote:

This document represents a proposed Change. As part of the Changes
process, proposals are publicly announced in order to receive
community feedback. This proposal will only be implemented if approved
by the Fedora Engineering Steering Committee.

== Summary ==
Add `ipp-usb` as a weak dependency of packages which provide support
for driverless printing (`cups`), driverless scanning (`sane-airscan`)
and driverless fax for USB devices capable of using driverless
functionality (how to find out whether your USB device is driverless
[https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/quick-docs/cups-useful-tricks/#_how_to_find_out_if_my_usb_device_supports_ipp_over_usb
here]), so such devices will work without a specific driver. `ipp-usb`
design conflicts with the way how drivers work with the device, so a
user intervention is required after upgrade.

== Owner ==
* Name: [[User:Zdohnal | Zdenek Dohnal]]
* Email: zdoh...@redhat.com

== Detailed Description ==
Nowadays most printers and scanners from common vendors provide a way
how to work without a specific driver. This way relies on driverless
standards implemented in device's firmware and their support in the
operating system user has. At first (in 2010) network driverless
standards were implemented in devices and widely spread, such as
AirPrint, [https://www.pwg.org/ipp/everywhere.html IPP Everywhere] for
printers or eSCL (sometimes called AirScan) and WSD (Windows Service
Discovery) for scanners. Those network driverless standards and others
are already supported in `cups` (for printing) and `sane-airscan`
packages. Two years later USB devices got their own driverless
standard -
[https://robots.org.uk/IPPOverUSB?action=AttachFile=view=IPP+USB+Specification.pdf
IPP over USB] - which is now implemented by `ipp-usb`. The package
itself has been in Fedora for more than two years available for users
to opt-in USB driverless support.

The `ipp-usb` package contains `ipp-usb` daemon, which works as an
HTTP proxy over the claimed USB devices, provides printing (via
[http://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/standards/std-ipp20-20151030-5100.12.pdf
IPP 2.0+] protocol), scanning (via eSCL) and fax (via
[http://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/candidates/cs-ippfaxout10-20140618-5100.15.pdf
IPP Faxout]) support and advertises them on localhost by mDNS
protocol. mDNS is the key feature for automatic discovery, but it is
not required to use it - the virtual printer device provided by
`ipp-usb` can be accessed at URI `ipp://localhost:6/ipp/print` and
the URI can be used for permanent queue installation -

Nothing against driverless printing, this is something I really like,
bit I think all the move to HTTP is ignoring the feature that is being
removed, and that I have an use for. There is not possible to have a
printer connected to a computer that can't be restricted by CUPS to be
used by only a few authorized users. The admin can implement CUPS
authentication but an ipp://localhost:6 open port entirely open to
anyone on the local machine to submit print jobs directly bypassing CUPS.

There are many other reasons to disallow direct access to the printer
application, like wanting to do printing accounting with CUPS, for example.

Unless every printer application support some kind of authentication
mechanism over their HTTP server, controlling direct access to the
printers is not possible. Do ipp-usb support at least basic
authentication so a permanent queue could be setup with these credentials?

Note: I really wish CUPS supported some kind of IPP over Unix domain
sockets so file system restrictions could be used to control access to
locally installed printer applications, but the last time I mentioned
that on a CUPS issue, sadly it was plainly rejected.

here] is the manual. However if mDNS is enabled, the virtual device
shared by `ipp-usb` can be automatically picked up by other services
(as `cups` or `sane-airscan`), so no further configuration is required
to get the device installed. The feature is called ''temporary queue''
in CUPS and it is supported in applications using the up-to-date CUPS
API or toolkits using up-to-date CUPS API - f.e. GTK3+ based
applications, Libreoffice and Firefox. The fax functionality is
available at URI `ipp://localhost:6/ipp/faxout`, but the automatic
installation doesn't work for it and it has to be installed manually.

As mentioned above, the `ipp-usb` daemon claims the USB interface of
the device which supports IPP over USB standard. This behavior
conflicts with the previous driver approach, where the discovery
mechanism only scans USB ports for available devices, but doesn't try
to claim the USB interface, which is unavailable because `ipp-usb` has
claimed it already. The result is the device can be discovered by
classic driver

Heads Up: opencascade 7.6.3 coming to all releases

2023-01-13 Thread Richard Shaw
Unfortunately there are some bugs in the current version of Fedora causing
serious usability issues for users of FreeCAD (not sure about other
dependencies) that require all released versions of Fedora be updated.

I'm currently about 80% through testing builds in COPR first and when
complete will start with Rawhide and then work my way down. To minimize the
time the side tag is open I will complete one before moving to the next.

Affected packages:
netgen-mesher
smesh
freecad
gmsh
kicad

Thanks,
Richard

Heads-up: new OpenSSL build changes

2023-01-13 Thread Dmitry Belyavskiy
Dear colleagues,

I've just pushed a new OpenSSL build to rawhide.
The change compared to the previous one is incorporating the patch from
https://github.com/openssl/openssl/pull/13817. Some more details can be
found here:
https://github.com/openssl/openssl/issues/13421

Citing the change description,

We added and enabled by default implicit rejection in RSA PKCS#1 v1.5
decryption as a protection against Bleichenbacher-like attacks.
The RSA decryption API will now return a randomly generated deterministic
message instead of an error in case it detects an error when checking
padding during PKCS#1 v1.5 decryption. This is a general protection against
issues like CVE-2020-25659 and CVE-2020-25657. This protection can be
disabled by calling
`EVP_PKEY_CTX_ctrl_str(ctx, "rsa_pkcs1_implicit_rejection". "0")`
in the RSA decryption context.

I am afraid this does not work properly with gmail.
Gmail will receive two emails with identical content but different headers (one
with List-Id and one without) and it will "consolidate" the two email into one
by randomly dropping one of them entirely.

maloc is required by apbs, which has other maintainers and I don't want
to pick it up.

enchant is requires by subtitleeditor which has since grown support for
enchant2, so I'm just going to switch it over to a maintained
dependency. Last enchant release was in 2010. IMHO it should be retired
after all its dependencies are ported to enchant2.

It hasn't been retired. The above only means that the OpenMolcas and
psi4 packages that you maintain depend on the CheMPS2 package that is
currently orphaned (has no maintainer as main point of contact) and your
two will be affected when CheMPS2 package is retired.

The scripts work fine. You and other maintainers were contacted.

Re: Automation of Fedora SCM requests

2023-01-13 Thread Michal Konecny

Hi,

churchyard already responded on this ticket and this is caused by
webhook that is preventing creating new branches. And he even mentioned
how we should process it in the SCM Request Processor.

I didn't know there is even something like webhook that could prevent
pushing new branches and the original script used by release engineering
didn't cover this case. This needs to be implemented in SCM Request
Processor.

* The number of lines with License grow while number of spec file shrank. Is it
because of bug in my script? Something else?

* You converted 1106 license tags in 14 days! You rock! This speed moved the
ETA to finish to 2024-03-06.

* Due new licenses in fedora-license-data some packages that were notrivial to
convert can be now trivially converted.

* Why Malanka? Because today is Malanka. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malanka

Do you hesitate how to proceed with the migration? Please follow

Re: [Fedora-legal-list] Re: SPDX Office hours

2023-01-13 Thread Chris Kelley
Fortnight is not Old English, it is modern British English and in daily use
for probably 100,000,000+ people.
I use "every two weeks" when speaking to people who are not British though,
and it is likely a better choice here as an international list.
Still, it is not an arcane word and it solves this problem entirely :-)
