Invitation to the Perl Toolchain Summit 2023 in Lyon

2023-04-05 Thread Emmanuel Seyman

Apologies, I'm sending this way too late...

Since 2008, the Perl Toolchain Summit (previousy known as the Perl QA
Hackathon) gathers the key developers working on the Perl toolchain
every year (with a hiatus in 2020-2022) to discuss and improve the
Perl toolchain.

https://blogs.perl.org/users/book/2023/01/the-perl-toolchain-summit-is-back-in-2023.html

I'm sure that there will be room at the Summit to discuss (and possibly
hack on) anything related to Perl's integration to the Fedora ecosystem.
So, if you're able to make it to Lyon, France, from Thursday April 27 to
Sunday April 30, we'ld love to see you therre.

Given that we are in a freeze for F38, it might be better to wait
until GA, but I have rebuilt kernel-tools in the sidetag. Please let
me know when this is merged back as we rebuild kernel-tools weekly in
rawhide.

Anaconda is slowing a boot by 5 secs

2023-04-05 Thread Jiri Konecny

Hi everyone,

I want to announce that Anaconda is slowing down a boot time by 5
seconds. It will be introduce

in the next Anaconda release (version 39.10) on Rawhide.

https://github.com/rhinstaller/anaconda/pull/4586

The reason is to improve the Anaconda OEMDRV functionality. This
functionality is used to
automatically load driverdisks or kickstart from device labeled
"OEMDRV". It has unfortunate issue
that some devices are visible later during the boot process. To mitigate
this issue, we decided to
wait during the boot 5 seconds, so the installation is able to take more
of these devices (most

notable it will enable to use USB devices).

You can disable this functionality `inst.wait_for_disks=0`.

Best Regards,
Jirka

First I wanted to say that pushing soname bumps to stable releases is
a bad idea, but then I checked, abd both 1.6.3 and 1.7.2 of
libtraceevent provide the same soname (libtraceevent.so.1()(64bit)) so
there's no soname bump after all :)

The same applies to libtracefs - the soname for both v1.5.0 and v1.6.4
is libtracefs.so.1()(64bit).

soname bump: libtraceevent and libtracefs

2023-04-05 Thread Zamir SUN

Hi,

I'm working on libtraceevent and libtracefs update. There will be soname
bump happening to them. Namely,

libtraceevent.so 1.6.3 -> 1.7.2
libtracefs.so 1.5.0 -> 1.6.4

IIRC only kernel-tools (for perf and rtla) and trace-cmd depends on
them. So I'm also copying their corresponding contacts.

As for libtraceevent, I've tried running trace-cmd/perf/rtla with the
new version and they still works. So I've updated it in Rawhide, Fedora
38 and Fedora 37. They are now in Bodhi.

As for libtracefs I've built it in side tag f39-build-side-65890. I plan
to update it in both Rawhide and Fedora 38 this week.

HTH.

Do that.

But don't put it anywhere else. It'll be run by rpm itself when
installing the package via filetriggers of shared-mime-info package:

$ rpm -q --filetriggers shared-mime-info
transfiletriggerin scriptlet (using /bin/sh) -- /usr/share/mime
update-mime-database -n /usr/share/mime &> /dev/null ||:
transfiletriggerpostun scriptlet (using /bin/sh) -- /usr/share/mime

Waive failed tests using new web form

2023-04-05 Thread Lukas Holecek
Hi All,

There is now new web form for waiving failed/missing test results:

https://waiverdb.fedoraproject.org/api/v1.0/waivers/new

The page supports authentication using OpenID Connect via web browsers.

Default parameters can be also passed to the form:

https://waiverdb.fedoraproject.org/api/v1.0/waivers/new?subject_type=koji_build_identifier=clang-16.0.0-1.fc39=fedora-ci.koji-build.tier0.functional_version=fedora-39

Thanks Kevin Fenzi and Aurélien Bompard for helping with the configuration.

Important note: We do not maintain waiverdb-cli utility anymore.

Please file any issues or suggestions at:
https://github.com/release-engineering/waiverdb/issues/

Enjoy,
Lukas

A question about custom MIME types

2023-04-05 Thread Sébastien Le Roux

Dear all,
I am working on my 'Atomes' package (non official yet) and I kindly ask
for your advise.

I have a question regarding my spec file:

https://github.com/Slookeur/Atomes-GNU/blob/main/atomes.spec

I recently figured out how to handle file associations and creating my
custom MIME type.

To do that I created an 'atomes-mime.xml' file:

https://github.com/Slookeur/Atomes-GNU/blob/main/metadata/atomes-mime.xml

that I installed in the '/usr/share/mime/packages/' directory,
and after that I updated the MIME database using:

update-mime-database /usr/share/mime

It works just as expected, but this should be obvious to many I guess.

However the first time I tried to build the RPM it failed, because this
last command creates
and/or modify a bunch of files in the '/usr/share/mime' and
'/usr/share/applications' folders:

   /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache
   /usr/share/mime/XMLnamespaces
   /usr/share/mime/aliases
   /usr/share/mime/application/x-apf.xml
   /usr/share/mime/application/x-awf.xml
   /usr/share/mime/generic-icons
   /usr/share/mime/globs
   /usr/share/mime/globs2
   /usr/share/mime/icons
   /usr/share/mime/magic
   /usr/share/mime/mime.cache
   /usr/share/mime/packages/atomes-mime.xml
   /usr/share/mime/subclasses
   /usr/share/mime/treemagic
   /usr/share/mime/types
   /usr/share/mime/version

So I add to correct the spec file to include these files, I did it like
this:

%{_datadir}/mime
%{_datadir}/applications

So that all files that my build creates in these folders will be added
properly to the RPM.

Now comes my question: some of these files seem to be configuration
files, that the 'update-mime-database'
simply updates, so I am not confident in saying that these should be
installed by my RPM,
it might just be better to have these files simply updated after the
installation, but I do not know how.

I tried to remove the 'update-mime-database' from the 'Makefile.am' (the
project uses GNU autotools)
and put it in the '%check' section of the spec file but it does not work
(same issue).

So far the RPM builds everywhere (local, Copr, Koji) but I am not sure
that it is correct, what do you think ?

Thanks in advance for your advise.

Best regards.

Sébastien

Hi,

This is a friendly notice that Sphinx 6.1.3 will be shipped to Fedora Rawhide
on April 13th. This package - unless fixed - will start to FTBFS.
I'll be happy to help with fixing the issues, should you need it.
If this package has already been handled, please ignore this message and
ideally close the ticket. Thank you!

Yes, after a lot of negative feedback they (temporary?) reverted this
change. Even their own vcpkg (package manager by Microsoft) uses these
hashes to verify downloaded files.

They said that after each download of the git tag archive, its contents
are permanently stored on the content server, and all subsequent
downloads will be performed by it. It consumes a lot of disk space.
