Where is jforbes (kernel maintainer) for the next 4-8 weeks?

2024-03-06 Thread Justin Forbes
Unfortunately I will be out on medical leave for the next 4-8 weeks.
Augusto Caringi (acaringi) has been doing a great job with the fedora
stable kernel releases recently and will be the point of contact for
fedora kernel issues in my absence. Other good points of contact
include Peter Robinson (pbrobinson) and Scott Weaver (scweaver). I
expect when I do come back it will be part time at first, and then
ramp back up to full time over a few weeks.

Report started at 2024-03-04 18:10:50 UTC

Note: If you received this mail directly you (co)maintain one of the affected

retire your depending package to avoid broken dependencies, otherwise your
package will be retired when the affected package gets retired.

Isn't the wasi-sdk just umbrella project? Is it really needed? We have
llvm / clang, we have wasi-libc, what else do you need?

Possible intermittent lost mail from Pagure

2024-03-06 Thread Richard W.M. Jones
I can't quite point to proper evidence, but I have a feeling that
email notifications are being lost from Pagure.

One case where I'm about 90% sure this happened was with:

  https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/ogre/pull-request/3

where I did not receive the "cc @rjones" email. I don't think it was
dropped by spam filters etc.

I've seen other people complaining about this too, today for instance:

  https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/pcp/pull-request/25#comment-187753

On a related subject, pagure does not send out email when someone
rebases / force pushes to a pull request, which seems like a pretty
big problem.

Rich.

Re: Closing most games (chroimumBSU etc) causes a reset of gnome in Tue Mar 5 on Fedora 41 (rawhide)

2024-03-06 Thread Hans de Goede
Hi Ryan,

> Anyone else open a bug on this yet?

I guess this bug might be related:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2267822

I wonder if this is the same gnome-shell crash which I have reported as:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/3329

Can you check in "journalctl --user" if you see a
"libmutter:ERROR:../src/x11/group.c:76:meta_group_new: assertion failed:
(g_hash_table_lookup (x11_display->groups_by_leader, _leader) == NULL)"

message in there ?

If you this likely is the same issue.

Also can you reproduce this at will, that is does closing
e.g. ChromiumBSU cause the crash every time ?

If this is the same issue and if it reproduces at will
for you please add the reproduction instructions to:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/3329

Regards,

Hans

That is true. But please note that there's a huge list of processes that
are not in the wheel group: e.g. any random service on the system that is
running unprivileged. Previously, it would have access to dmesg, possibly
making it easier to escalate some vulnerability to full root access. With
this change, dmesg becomes unavailable so extracting information about the
running kernel is harder.
