Fedora 32: setup with encrypted LVM
I have try to install a Fedora 32 Beta on a existent previous Fedora 31 system using an encrypted LVM Something is wrong I have not format the /home LV volume and format only the other swap, / and /var old LV volume. The setup keeps the original Encrypted LVM partition but encrypt also the swap, / and /var LV device and make the FS on the encrypted LV device into the VG partition already encrypted. Too many people (like also me) try to use samba-dc on fedora for deploy a production AD DC controller, without know that MIT kerberos is experimental and some useful things cannot work (es. win to win access). An recent last example: https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2019-November/226845.html > On 01/11/2019 22:23, Vex Mage wrote: > > The script is expecting dpkg however this is a Red Hat > > derived distro (Fedora Server.) > > Where did you get the Samba packages from ? > > If they are the default OS packages, then you should stop using > them, they use MIT kerberos and are experimental. There is many approach for resolve this issue: a) Stop use MIT kerberos and rebuild samba with Heimdal Kerberos. b) Produce a samba alternative package version (like, for example, firefox-x11) build it with Heimdal Kerberos (es samba-hk-*) c) Stop enable DC on Fedora, like RH/Centos do. d) Notify users at the end of the installation that Fedora Samba DC is experimental. e) Solve the problems that make MIT kerberos experimental and put us in a position to ask for help on the samba team. f) ... some other proposal ? Fedora Server 29: when stop and start my qemu/kvm server, some service they do not start
I have setup a samba AD-DC server with BIND9_DLZ on a Fedora 29 server. Samba is OK, all work fine when all services are started The problem occur only when I stop and then start the server, If I reboot, the problem do not occur. When the server start after a stop, some services do not start and sshd start (Luckily!) few minutes after the server is on. The services that in my case do not start are named.service and gssproxy.service. For gssproxy service in my case is not a problem, but named it is: without named started, samba do not work. When I can jump on the server, after few minutes because systemd wait few minute (timeout) that sshd.services and other two services start, I can manually restart named and gssproxy without problem. On the console during the startup process, when the system is almost started I see systemd wait respective timeout for these tree services This server is a fresh Fedora Server minimal install virtual machine Qemu/KVM run on Centos 7 up to date. In the paste I have already have a similar problem with samba and the samba team have resolve it put into samba.service this directive: Wants=network-online.target After=network.target network-online.target IMHO, it is correct that those services start only after the network is up Then I have try to add these directive in the three services that do not start well after a stop of server and the problem is solved! Fedora 27 + Samba AD: krb5kdc not start when server is restarted
When I restart my Fedora server 27 with Samba 4.7.1 configured in AD-DC mode, the samba.service start but not krb5kdc, seem due network interface missing. Fedora 25: cxacru module (ADSL Modem USB) fail to load its firmware at boot time
I have migrate my home server from Fedora 11 to Fedora 25 with a new installation. All work fine except the load firmware of the cxacru module (ADSL Modem USB) at boot time, after a poweroff and unplug/plug the AC power cable. If I try reload the modules manually when the server is started I get the same error and the firmware is not loaded. If I disconnect and reconnect modem USB when the server is on, the cxacru module load its firmware without problem and I can load the ppp interface property . Yesterday I have update my fedora 25 and after reboot VPN l2tp+ipsec do not work anymore. The connection happens without problem, the routing are set correctly, the DNS (UDP protocol) and ping (ICMP protocol) to remote host work. Only the access to some server, like ssh or smb:// (TCP protocol) do not work, in this case, if I monitoring on remote server with tcpdump, none arrives. Question on systemd service and "After=" directive
Gogs systemd service (gogs.service) must start after a DB is started. Gogs can use mysql, mariadb, postgress, ecc db backend. Now into service all this "After=" are commented and I must modify the gogs.service file and comment out the right After entry > [Unit] > Description=Gogs > After=syslog.target > After=network.target > #After=mysqld.service > #After=mariadb.service > #After=postgresql.service > #After=memcached.service > #After=redis.service > > [Service] https://github.com/gogits/gogs/blob/master/scripts/systemd/gogs.service Now I have modify the gogs.service file, but I'm looking for a way to avoid modify the unit file It's possible set After with all db service gogs needs, also if the some named services are non installed, something like this, or leave all After= directive uncommented: After=aaa.service bbb.service ccc.service If not, there is a way to avoid modify the unit file and put into it something like this? AfterIfExist=aaa.service bbb.service ccc.service or another directive ? Also if build samba from source use Heimdal Kerberos. Many Fedora / Centos / RedHat users who want to use ADDC on this kind of Linux, since it is not supported by default, build the samba from source. An example: https://thingsdomakesense.wordpress.com/2016/04/27/installing-samba-4-4-2-ad-dc-on-centos-7-1511-2/ If is the same thinks, I think it's better rebuild RPM with this support on a different isolate host and install/update new samba-ADDC rpm on all production servers, rather than install development tools and dependency packages on every production server and compile samba from source and update it each time. Or it's something wrong in this my reasoning? > > My question is: > > > > There is some hope that in the short this flags are enable by > > default? > > > > Many thanks for your reply > > Yes, we will enable Samba AD as soon as I'm done with porting it to > MIT Kerberos. Samba DC NT4 Style is Gone. It may be time to enable AD-DC for default into Fedora Samba4 packages?
This recent Microsoft's Patch https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2016-August/202197.html disable password change for Domain Controller NT4 Style. IMHO, It may be time to enable support to AD-DC mode, or release another renamed packages with AD-DC support enable. The samba.src is ready for this: I have try to download the samba.src rpm, modify the spec file like this: > sed \ > -e 's/%global with_mitkrb5 1/%global with_mitkrb5 0/' \ > -e 's/%global with_dc 0/%global with_dc 1/' \ > ~/rpmbuild/SPECS/samba.spec rebuild the package, install it on a test server and configure it in AC-DC mode. Libav is a complete, cross-platform solution to decode, encode, record, convert and stream audio and video. ffmpeg is not deprecated at all and is still being actively developed. In fact, the upstream MPlayer tarball still contains ffmpeg, not libav. Libav is a fork of ffmpeg that happened early 2011 as some were unhappy with the project leader (Michael Niedermayer). Libav tried to take the ffmpeg trademark/website for themselves, but the owner of the trademark (Fabrice Bellard, original author of ffmpeg) intervened. The two projects are now going their separate ways. One of the members of the libav fork happens to be the maintainer of ffmpeg on Debian/Ubuntu, so he deprecated ffmpeg and spread what some might call misleading information about ffmpeg. Neither ffmpeg or libav seem significantly better or worse than the other, either in features or stability. Certainly neither of them can be considered deprecated projects. I was under the impression that they stopped showing the deprecation message, but it appears I may be wrong. This gives a detailed look at what happened. The author claims objectivity, but I'd take the facts and weigh things for yourself: http://blog.pkh.me/p/13-the-ffmpeg-libav-situation.html I'm looking for a Fedora's package for libav-tools (or avcomv) ffmpeg can be found in the RPMFusion repository: http://rpmfusion.org/ I don't think libav-tools is in any of our official repositories, though I believe the gstreamer1-libav package uses libav instead of ffmpeg. Most of our other media-related software is built with ffmpeg, not libav. Kind regards, -- Jamie Nguyen Thanks Jamie for your detailed explanation as well.
