Removal of pipe sink and source modules from Fedora pulse packages

2013-05-01 Thread Jeremy White
Hi Lennart,

In this thread:

http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/pulseaudio-discuss/2009-June/004215.html

You express that the module-pipe-sink is a toy, and can't be used for
anything useful, and that you're going to remove it from the Fedora
packages.

And, indeed, it has been removed from the Fedora packages; the .spec
file removes the pipe sink and source (along with oss and the old detect
module).

I couldn't find any other discussion of this removal; please forgive me
and supply links if I did not Google well or long enough to find it.

However, I would like to play with your toy . Specifically, the
module-pipe-sink proved to be a useful tool in feeding sound into an
Xspice virtual session. Each session gets a virtual X display, and we
now have code in spice to consume the fifo and translate it into spice
sound protocol messages.

I was preparing an Xspice demo as part of the Fedora 19 test process,
and sound is one of the key benefits of spice.

I am hoping to persuade you to undo those removals, or failing that, to
persuade you to create a new package (named pulseaudio-toys, perhaps
).

Cheers,

Jeremy

Javascript packaging guidelines

2013-02-15 Thread Jeremy White
I am working to become a packager for spice-html5 [1].

Eduardo Echeverria has suggested that I break out the dependent
Javascript libraries into separate packages, which I am now working on.

I am attempting to follow the Javascript library packaging guideline
[2], however I have uncovered an issue with those guidelines [3] -
they specify inconsistent locations for the Apache configuration file.

Being completely new to this process, I'd appreciate guidance on how to
proceed. Looking at the change history on that Wiki page, it looks like
it's relatively stale. That suggests I should bull ahead and package as
I see best, and that's what I'll do by default.

But if I should try to shake a tree and force some resolution on the
guidelines instead, here I am, shaking .

Cheers,

Jeremy

Thanks. I notice that emails from the Red Hat bugzilla take nearly a
day to reach me. Is that expected?

Thanks for catching my mistake; it is all intended to be LGPLv3.

I'll post an updated build + spec file to the bug;
any other steps I should take?

Self Introduction

2013-02-13 Thread Jeremy White
As suggested by
 https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Join_the_package_collection_maintainers

I am writing to introduce myself. I have submitted a package review
request for the spice-html5 javascript SPICE client here:
  https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=910793

I'm a long time Free Software advocate, and sometimes developer. I'm
mostly known for my work with Wine.

I wrote this code as part of my mid life crisis, and am trying to get it
released in a useful form.

Cheers,
