It would be a good idea regardless...

Which bits? AFAIK, Fedora does not allow cross-compiling for official
Fedora packages.

We do, as our mingw packages are all cross compiled packages.

Do the cross-gcc packages also need moving to GCC6 immediately as I believe
they're used to compile some bits too?

They're used to build some firmware blobs for QEMU/KVM, eg seabios
because we need to build x86 seabios code on ppc/arm/etc hosts for
example.

I find it convenient because people ask me about the schedule _a lot_.

OK, I will update the schedule in this way. Thanks for letting me
know. I did not know it is a "best practice" to do it so.

Jan, previously when we've updated the schedule, the previous dates for
each milestone are retained with a strikethrough (see
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/23/Schedule). Are we not doing
that intentionally this time because we're so early in the process?

Changes in F24 schedule - two weeks slip

2016-01-11 Thread Jan Kurik
Hi Fedora people,

let me inform you about changes in Fedora 24 schedule.

There is a will to accommodate GCC6 compiler in F24 and use it to
compile all the binaries delivered in this release [1]. To make this
happen we need to do mass rebuild which was not originally scheduled
for this release. On FESCo meeting the last Friday has been decided to
go on with GCC6 and do the mass rebuild. This causes slip of F24
schedule for 2 weeks. Please check the updated schedule at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/24/Schedule#Key_Milestones .
Dates for the most important milestones follows:

2016-03-15 Alpha Release
2016-04-26 Beta Release
2016-05-31 Fedora 24 Final Release (GA)

Regards,
Jan
