slapi-nis license change

2022-08-20 Thread Alexander Bokovoy

Hi,

I was intending to do this change for several years but never been able
to complete it.

With slapi-nis 0.60.0 release today I finally finished relicensing of
slapi-nis to GPLv3-or-later and builds in Fedora reflect it now.
Previous version was GPLv2.

slapi-nis is a plugin to 389-ds LDAP server which moved to
GPLv3-or-later already for some years. The relicensing was agreed with
Red Hat legal for quite some time already, since Red Hat is the only
copyright owner.

[HEADS-UP] Upcoming retirement of gstreamer-rs and wasm-bindgen stacks

2022-08-20 Thread Fabio Valentini
Hello fellow Rust packagers,

I am progressing with my "spring cleaning" efforts for the Rust stack,
and it became apparent that there's a few clusters of packages that
are actually unused, but which regularly take up a non-insignificant
amount of my package maintenance time.

The gstreamer-rs stack seems to have been imported in preparation for
packaging an application (maybe shortwave?) over three years ago (!),
but that effort seems to have been abandoned, and as a result, the
following packages have been unused since (but were actively
maintained and updated to new versions):

- rust-gstreamer
- rust-gstreamer-sys
- rust-gstreamer-audio
- rust-gstreamer-audio-sys
- rust-gstreamer-base
- rust-gstreamer-base-sys
- rust-gstreamer-editing-services
- rust-gstreamer-editing-services-sys
- rust-gstreamer-pbutils
- rust-gstreamer-pbutils-sys
- rust-gstreamer-player
- rust-gstreamer-player-sys
- rust-gstreamer-video
- rust-gstreamer-video-sys

Another set of packages that has been unused for over two years are
the packages for wasm-bindgen and the JavaScript (js-sys) / Web API
(web-sys) bindings. They appear to have been packaged "by mistake",
and all dependencies on these crates turned out to be either
unnecessary or no-ops, since we do not compile any WebAssembly
(targeted at JavaScript / web browsers) from Fedora Rust packages:

- rust-wasm-bindgen
- rust-wasm-bindgen-backend
- rust-wasm-bindgen-macro
- rust-wasm-bindgen-macro-support
- rust-wasm-bindgen-shared
- rust-js-sys
- rust-web-sys

I would like to retire all listed packages (and possibly some
resulting new leaf packages) in time for the Fedora 37 freezes, given
that they have been unused for years and only cause additional
maintenance burden for the Rust SIG (i.e. me).

Please make yourself heard if you are packaging something that will
depend on any of these packages, or have another legitimate use-case
for these packages.

glibc 2.36 and DT_HASH (preserving it for F37+)

2022-08-20 Thread Neal Gompa
Hey all,

It seems that upstream glibc disabled support for generating DT_HASH
tables for its libraries and binaries, which breaks Linux games that
use Epic Games' Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC).

There's a pretty decent write-up about this on LWN:
https://lwn.net/Articles/904892/

Can we turn this back on for Fedora glibc until we can get Epic to
make fixes for this and roll them out? I'd really like my Linux games
to not break on upgrading to Fedora 37...

I'm inclined to vote -1, if everyone keeps DT_HASH around I doubt Epic will
fix the issue.

asio-1.24.0-1.fc38 has now been built and is available in the side tag.

Well, asio{-devel} seems header (template) collection, no library, so
actually even without any rebuild, no dependency breakage will happen.

Nevertheless is it better that we rebuild all depending src.rpm?
( src.rpms with BuildRequires: asio-devel are only 7, so rebuilding them is

Does this apply just to package builds, or to everything? i.e. are live
image builds also going to use it?

It's not necessarily a problem if so, I just kinda want to know so I
can adjust openQA's live image build test (which is meant to shadow the
official builds as closely as possible).

Thanks!

It would be anything use f38-build... so yes, livemedia and images too.
