2011-06-13 Thread gerardo airaldi

update,
i´ll like to add mangle support to a kernel so my iptables can do what i´m
 trying to do,
 i´m following this guide :
 http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Rebuilding_OLPC_kernel#Installing_kernel_RPMs
but, where in fact can i download the kernel sources to modify?

the kernel that is running is Linux xo-43-1a-2d.localdomain

Okay, I just confirmed that this is indeed caused by drag'n' drop.

While playing around with os22 with the language set to Spanish Uruguay I
also noticed issues with missing Spanish translations in two activities:

* Record v91: The labels Timer and Duration and the corresponding
dropdown menus in the toolbar are in English.
* Paint v33: Two popus of toolbar elements are in English: Brush

XO-1 touchpad once more

2011-06-13 Thread Yioryos Asprobounitis
I came across a forum post [1] (last sentence) that remind it me once more the
ALPS XO-1 touchpad issue.
In all the post os802 builds, OLPC 10.1.x, Dextrose 2x and OLPC 11.2.0, the
problem is *considerably* worse eg much more often and persistent than in F9
builds.

The fact that the touchpad was jumpy before, may result in labeling this not a
regression. But is clearly NOT the case.
With post F9 builds is really hard to use first generation XO-1s without a
mouse.
Before was bad, now is close to intolerable.
I can appreciate that ALPS XO-1s are long EOL and newer builds and hardware are
more pressing matters, but we are talking probably half the OLPC installed base
here that may not be able to be fully benefited by the newer builds.

I do not think that should be seen as a secondary issue or something that there
is nothing to be done about.
Yes, it is a hardware problem in its core but it was not that bad in older
builds.
So something should/could be done to at least go back to that level of
discomfort.

What about going back to the 2.6.25 driver?
Even without auto-recalibration provided a better user experience apparently.

Just wanted to chime in that I've been switching between 802 and os19/os21
while testing/debugging some of the activities I maintain on XO-1 hardware. The
trackpad reliability does seem to have taken a step or two back from where we
were with 802 (more frequently grinds to near stationary, and more frequently
decides to drift when no fingers are near the trackpad). Sorry, no hard
numbers. I wouldn't go as far as to say it is close to intolerable, but it is
more frustrating than before.

I did wonder if it could be due to the debugging level for these test builds?
Lots more getting written to the logs. Not sure how to change logging level
these days, is it now hidden in gconf somewhere?

2011-06-13 Thread Chris Leonard
Christoph,

You can check on Pootle and you can check in git. Git is typically
more impotant to seeing it in the builds.

Pootle Record (lang-es)
http://translate.sugarlabs.org/es/honey/record.po?view_mode=translate

Git Record (lang-es)
http://git.sugarlabs.org/record/mainline/blobs/master/po/es.po

These two strings are complete in both. If they are done in Poolte,
but not git, then the lang-admin needs to commit.

This one is a little more complex. The git POT has the strings, but
the strings don't have proper location codes (a template issue), so
they may not be showing.

Git Paint (lang-es)
http://git.sugarlabs.org/paint/mainline/blobs/master/po/es.po

As Gonzalo mentioned, we are working though a few issues with Honey
Activity POT files and Pootle along with Rafael

I've been making noise about this for a while, without success. The
problem is that Pootle refuses to update the translations, and instead
presents translators with a series of (very) old strings taken from an
old version of Record, many of which don't even appear in the
  activity.

We could use some additional pages on L10n testing on the SL wiki
under Translation Team. We still lean on the w.l.o pages for some
things, and those are getting further out-of-date.

Re: Re: XO-1 touchpad once more

2011-06-13 Thread forster
My experience is that the xo1 touchpad previously had infrequent periods of
total unusability, that is you just had to shut the lid and do something else
for an hour but this was a relatively rare event, maybe once a week

Now the touchpad auto-recalibrates, there are frequent periods of unusability
that last for round 30 seconds, maybe 4 times an hour

This no doubt varies from laptop to laptop.

I suspect that for my XO1, the error sensing for the recalibrate is more
aggressive than optimum.

I recollect that the driver's author issued the invitation for people to mess
with the settings and report what settings work best for them. Maybe if anybody
is unhappy with current performance, the best contribution would be to look at
the source and experiment with the settings

Tony

Well, we certainly seem to have reduced the frequency of the problem
overall, even if a few people who never had the problem now have it.
 ;-)

It's the overall frequency that matters.

Thanks Chris
Its a helpful resource
Still a big learning curve though for the non technical
Still getting my head round localization

Maybe even better, could it give an example of one string, tracked from Pootle
through to build, giving url's and filenames and maybe listing who did what and
when to trigger its migration?

Tony,

At some point I may develop a life-cycle of a localized string
explanation for the wiki, but at the moment I am fairly fully engaged
with wrangling L10n teams to complete their work and commit it in time
for the 11.2.0 release, working with sysadmin types like Rafael and
Gonzalo to iron out some kinks behind-the-scenes in our Pootle
instance, as well as conducting a thorough QA of newly hosted PO files
from upstream projects (GNASH and AbiWord) and downstream projects
(WavePlace) while tracking the GNOME upstream of key packages in a
large number of languages.

In the interim, I can point you at the Internationalization /
Localization chapter of James Simmon's fine FLOSSManual bpublication
for more information.

http://en.flossmanuals.net/make-your-own-sugar-activities/ch013_going-international-with-pootle/

I would be happy to answer any specific questions you may have,
although it might be best to do that on the Localization list. I'm
afraid that generating more detailed documentation of the arcana of
i18n / L10n will have to wait until I have a few more spare cycles
then the present time.

the XO's WLAN can be the AP

Note that running hostap is not a trivial endeavour.

Unless something's changed recently since the last time I looked, the XO's
wifi chip doesn't support hostapd. The best I've been able to kludge
together (back when I used the XO as a portable XS to tote to training
sessions) was a USB-Ethernet adapter on eth1 connected to an old Linksys
AP. If wifi was available, the XO's WLAN worked as eth0.
