There are many possible causes.

but I madesome supporting evidence; on myXO
 but apparently when I run:

 service NetworkManager start

Setting network parameters... [ OK ]
 Starting NetworkManager daemon: [FAILED]
** (NetworkManager:3108): WARNING ** NetworkManager is already running (pid
 2875)

This evidence is not very useful; it only proves that NetworkManager was
running already, and therefore that a failure of NetworkManager was not
the cause of failure to detect wireless networks at school.

I suggest you do this test on each affected XO:

sudo iwlist eth0 scan

... and see if the wireless networks at school are shown. If they are
not, then either they are not present, the wireless card may be faulty,
or the antenna cable may be faulty.

That's interesting. What model of XO? What operating system build?

computer model is XO-1 build: 860

To adjust my instructions, you can either:

 1. use OpenFirmware, at the ok prompt type

ok scan-wifi

 or

 2. stop NetworkManager before the scan:

sudo service NetworkManager stop
sudo ifconfig eth0 up
sudo iwlist eth0 scan

I could perform the test and the XO is the school's network but at the
hearing ''my neighborhood ''but the network does not appear when I run it in
terminal I get the XO network, the wifi light comes on, but sleep

I don't understand, sorry.

If you mean iwlist or scan-wifi show the correct output, but ''my
neighborhood'' does not, then it sounds like a Sugar problem. Check
that the ''my neighborhood'' screen does not have a search string set.
