Incidentally, the workaround was to turn up the volume in OFW.  The
sound lockups were only seen on machines that had the startup chime
muted.

(If OFW didn't make noise, it wasn't bothering to initialize the sound
hardware properly.)

Workaround for the sound lockup?

Today's testing for the Welly team has been blocked in many cases by
the sound lockups. I tried to hardlink /dev/audio to /dev/null but the
sound infrastructure didn't fall for it :-/

Is there a cheap / simple way to get this out of the way? Today is
gone - but it can help testers until the gstreamer downgrade is done.
