Nice!
If SHE not available, what would be the procedure to install the standalone
engine before deploying the host?
Or could I try to deploy the node using a 4.4.8 standalone engine in its
own DC/Cluster?

Hello,
I have tried the iso of ovirt node ng to configure a single host HCI
environment.
Using the wizard for single node, at the beginning in the window where you
have to insert the fqdn of the storage node I see a javascript exception (a
red Ooops! in top right of cockpit page tells me that).
Both on Google Chrome and in firefox.
In practice you cannot type anything and in js console of chrome I see:

app.js:43 Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'checked' of null
at n.value (app.js:43)
at changeCallBack (app.js:43)
at Object.b (app.js:27)
at w (app.js:27)
at app.js:27
at S (app.js:27)
at T (app.js:27)
at Array.forEach ()
at _ (app.js:27)
at N (app.js:27)

Sort of workaround is to type a character (you don't see anything), then
click the ipv6 related checkbox just above the input line, and then you see
the first character, then again, alternating the checkbox and a
character you see every time appear the new character typed.
You cannot type the full fqdn in one flow because only the last character
appears then when you click on the checkbox...
This anyway let me continue and type the whole storage hostname and go
ahead with the installation.
I arrive up to the final step "Finish Deployment", but when the host exits
final global maintenance and the engine VM starts, it goes into panic and I
realized that I missed the pass-through cpu flag for the hypervisor vm, so
I'm going to retry.
In the mean time can anyone verify the javascript exception above?

Probably too early to ask, but does this mean that realistically when final
4.4 will be out it will support also 7.7 and not only 8.x based hosts?

In case of spare time to test, where is the correct place then to report,
apart standard bugzilla? ovirt users or devel list?

Right now I installed it only on my smartphone (Samsung S7 with Android
7.0) and was able to connect to a single host, hosted engine environment
based on oVirt 4.1.
The speed of actions inside application seems quite good! Even connected
through VPN to a slow link, but passing from one information to the other
was quite immediate... very nice!
What tested:
- VM powered off, I power on it and I see its events section populated only
by the new power on event
- verified spice console (both with a VM in text mode and one with graphic
display)
- verified create snapshot and delete snapshot for a powered on VM

So far so good.
I'm going to install also to a tablet with access to more than one
environment and test connection to 2 different infrastructures...
Thanks,

Hi Sandro,
does this mean that 4.0.3 was final, 2 days ago?
I indeed noticed a strange subject in that e-mail

[ANN] oVirt 4.0.3 Final Release Candidate is now available

There were both "Final" and "Candidate" words ... and I was a bit
confused...
Also if this is true, any particular reason to have a new release candidate
right 2 days after the previous final?
Is it not too fast for users to stay ahead? Or do we need to consider
"Release Candidate" phrase in a different way than usual?
Only my opinion...

Hello,
are the issue related to oVirt web site only or to rpm packages too?

It seems that on an test environment with all-in-one hosted engine in 3.6.3
I'm not able to get any updates to put it at 3.6.5 level...

Also after "yum clean all"

OK, thanks.
BTW: I see that engine VM is run with option
-rtc base=2016-01-25T13:51:16,driftfix=slew -global
kvm-pit.lost_tick_policy=discard -no-hpet

On hypervisor, a VM configured with Europe/Rome timezone, the related
process is this:

[root@ovc72 ~]# ps -ef|grep qemu
qemu 2995 1 12 14:51 ?00:07:49 /usr/libexec/qemu-kvm -name
HostedEngine ...

So what is the command run on host to set base= one hour before?

Tested successfully on CentOS 7.2 with SH Engine on NFS and verified
correct auto-import of SH Domain.
Hypervisor is a CentOS 7.2 VM inside Qemu/KVM in virt-manager (under my
laptop that is Fedora 23).
So it is a nested virtualization environment.

Some NOTES
1) appliance
I see that the appliance rpm pulled in was
 ovirt-engine-appliance-3.6-20151216.1.el7.centos.noarch

I presumed it was not populated with correct rpms.
So in "hosted-engine --deploy" setup I used the appliance, but answered

Automatically execute engine-setup on the engine appliance on first boot
(Yes, No)[Yes]? No

I then connect to the appliance OS and configure 3.6-pre repo and run

yum update

Strange that this pulled in the package

ovirt-release36-003-1.noarch

and so the repo file was overwritten and was again 3.6 only and not 3.6-pre.
I re-modified /etc/yum.repos.d/ovirt-3.6.repo re-adding the pre.

and finally
engine-setup

and successfully completed the final part on host.

2) localtime on Engine was not asked but was set to UTC.
So
[root@shengine ~]# ln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Rome /etc/localtime

shutdown engine OS and after some minutes the VM came back online.

3) As this is a nested environment with NFS domain provided by the only
host itself,
In /usr/lib/systemd/system/ovirt-ha-broker.service

Agdded in section [Unit]

After=nfs-server.service
So that I can manage shutdown/restart of host for complete maintenance
operations

4) After adding first data domain, the hosted_storage storage domain came
up automatically without any problem. Able to see engine vm in web admin
portal and its disk and access its console (used vnc)
Also able to add ISO Domain.
(both data and iso are NFS on the host itself)

5) The only "problem" (?) I see is this message that I don't understand.
On hypervisors

[root@ovc72 ~]# systemctl status ovirt-ha-agent -l

Hello,
is it ok to test installing the engine VM of SelfHostedEngine from the ova?
Because trying to install it gives a release apparently dated 20151104

Installing:
 ovirt-engine-appliance noarch 20151104.0-1.el7.centos
 ovirt-3.61.5 G
 ovirt-hosted-engine-setup noarch 1.3.1.2-1.el7.centos
ovirt-3.6-pre266 k

or is it not important because what preinstalled inside the ova is not
correlated with the engine bits themselves that are going to be installed
on it...?

Thanks

I confirm that I hit the bug and I was able to simply activate the storage

Ok, the update of the engine inside the appliance VM went smooth and now I
have in web admin portal:
Version 3.6.1.3-1.el7.centos
with my storage domain up and my ISO domain up.
And after update (also verified with a global restart) I verified I can now
indeed see the hosted_storage storage domain in status "Maintenance", see
screenshot:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mvQTg2ZHRGeXRQWWs/view?usp=sharing

What are now the steps in my case I should follow to activate it?
Simply right click on it and select "import", or what?

And do I have a command line command equivalent in 3.6.x < 3.6.2 to change

Hi Sandro,
is there a link where to find differences between RC1, RC2, RC3, RC4 in
terms of bugs fixed or supposed to be fixed in one or the other one, or new
bugs revealed in a new RC version, etc?
So that it is clear a sort of (expected) delta between them?

hello,
I'm currently on 3.5.1.1 with myengine and both engine and another system
configured as host are 6.6 + updates
(host has 3.5.1 packages too)
I have an ubuntu vm configured with vnc console.
From user portal I select novnc and open console and I get
Server disconnected (code: 1006)

(that seems the error when websocket proxy is not configured as in
https://access.redhat.com/solutions/718653
)

Is this the problem we are trying to address? Or is anything wrong at first
step in configuring?
I have not updated novnc package yet.

My current setup for test:

On engine
[root@ovirtmgr ~]# engine-config -g WebSocketProxy
WebSocketProxy: ovirtmgr.localdomain.local:6100 version: general

[root@ovirtmgr ~]# service ovirt-websocket-proxy status
ovirt-websocket-proxy (pid 10848) is running...

[root@ovirtmgr ~]# lsof -Pp 10848|grep TCP
ovirt-web 10848 ovirt5u IPv4 51868 0t0 TCP
*:6100 (LISTEN)

[root@ovirtmgr ~]# iptables -L -n | egrep Chain|6100
Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)
ACCEPT tcp -- 0.0.0.0/00.0.0.0/0 state NEW tcp
dpt:6100
Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT)
Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)

The client is windows 7 with firefox 35.0.1
and I correctly imported the certificate of ovirtmgr.

So let me know if I'm in the point to apply the novnc patch and test it or
if it is supposed I fix my 1006 error before.
Also, the novnc package I think I have to install it on hypervisor, correct?

Bugzilla created against ovirt-engine-installer and version 4.0:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1174236

Do you think it is better to create another one specifically for oVirt
Hypervisor? And in that case against what component?

OK, all went ok.
The only problem I had was PostgreSQL upgrade that didn't succeed.
I used the newly released postgresql-upgrade-9.3.5-2.fc20.x86_64 and not
the version referred inside the bugzilla entry.
I don't know if it was part of the problem.

[root@tekkaman Downloads]# postgresql-setup upgrade

After removing from postgresql.conf the line

I was then able to upgrade PostgreSQL and continue with the other steps.
The Hypervisor part was fulfilled by the os upgrade itself.

BTW: in f19 I had iptables and not firewalld and this kind of configuration
was kept in f20 too by the installer.

In practice the problem is due to the fact that it is an all-in-one
installation and so it pulled in the virt-preview part for vdsm and related
packages (qemu-kvm, seabioes, etc..).
How much is it risky to bypass the yum distro-sync step? Will the fedup
part run itself the distro-sync command then, or is it only a sort of
pre-check to verify consistency of packages?
In my case if fedup will retain the ovirt repos all should go ok, correct?

  Hi,

The focus of our OPW internship program starting in December will be
mobile and/or lightweight engine clients -- hopefully integrating the
  new ovirt.js project.

 +100

 [snip]

I see that there are some already existing mobile clients for oVirt.
I'm trying to grasp what we have and what the needs are.

That's all I see on the first few pages of google.

There was also project from Iordanov about spice/oVirt support on android..
See:
http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2013-December/018434.html

Some days ago it seems he go also support international keyboard layout
support:

I finally got some time to back-port the international keyboard layout
support from the Android Ovirt client Opaque into the SPICE client
aSPICE

I made same preliminary tests at the end of 2013 but I was not able to
connect to oVirt...
I don't know actually how it went ahead... the Google channel seems stopped
since February...

All ok.
Only note that when at the end you write to run the command:

I think correct link is what I referred in my first answer and that I used:

In that page we have the timestamp and tested version of
*Name*: oVirt Guest Agent on Ubuntu

That is valid also for 3.5rc3 and ubuntu 14.04

 [2] http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/ovirt-3.4/iso/ovirt-live-el6-3.4.4.iso

Hello,
I have just updated to 3.4.4 an oVirt all-in-one environment based on 3.4.1
and Fedora 19 .
All went ok, especially for the previously dramatic update of reports/dwh
parts.
good job!

I have some comments for the release notes:

1) the version I had to update was 3.4.1
3.4.1-1.fc19

in the release notes there is only mention for upgrade from 3.4.0 and in
that case to remove ovirt-release package after installing ovirt-release34
So in my situation the user is not so confident about how to proceed.
Infact in my case I already had ovirt-release34 installed. I only needed to
update it.

$ rpm -qa ovirt-release\*
ovirt-release34-1.0.1-1.noarch

I got same output using install or directly using update
# yum localinstall
http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/yum-repo/ovirt-release34.rpm
Resolving Dependencies
-- Running transaction check
--- Package ovirt-release34.noarch 0:1.0.1-1 will be updated
--- Package ovirt-release34.noarch 0:1.0.3-1 will be an update

# yum update ovirt-release34
Resolving Dependencies
-- Running transaction check
--- Package ovirt-release34.noarch 0:1.0.1-1 will be updated
--- Package ovirt-release34.noarch 0:1.0.3-1 will be an update

So my workflow was the second one ad it seems more intuitive.
It could be written that in case of 3.4.x with x0 one only needs the yum
update part

2) engine-setup
Following the instrucitons to run

yum update ovirt-engine-setup*

when you run engine-setup, actually you are prompted to update also reports
and dwh before proceeding, if you had them before, as it was my case:
...
[ INFO ] Checking for product updates...
Setup has found updates for some packages, do you wish to update
them now? (Yes, No) [Yes]:
[ INFO ] Checking for an update for Setup...
An update for the Setup packages ovirt-engine-reports-setup
ovirt-engine-dwh-setup was found. Please update that package by running:
  yum update ovirt-engine-reports-setup ovirt-engine-dwh-setup
  and then execute Setup again.
[ ERROR ] Failed to execute stage 'Environment customization': Please
update the Setup packages

SO it should be written, if one had reports configured before, to run also
# yum update ovirt-engine-reports-setup ovirt-engine-dwh-setup
Resolving Dependencies
-- Running transaction check
--- Package ovirt-engine-dwh-setup.noarch 0:3.4.1-1.fc19 will be updated
--- Package ovirt-engine-dwh-setup.noarch 0:3.4.4-0.1.fc19 will be an
update
--- Package ovirt-engine-reports-setup.noarch 0:3.4.1-1.fc19 will be
updated
--- Package ovirt-engine-reports-setup.noarch 0:3.4.4-0.1.fc19 will be an
update

Or it could also be modified the previous command adding a * in the middle

 yum update ovirt-engine-*setup*

(actually better to split in two commands in my opinion)

NOTE:
My reports are ok if I select the reports link in the main page of portals
But if I go in webadmin portal and then select dashboard near the top
right events tab, I get a page not found error
see
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mvWTdFOGJuekZmbEk/edit?usp=sharing

I never used this dashboard link before, so I don't know exactly what it
should provide to the user.
When I click on dashoard I see this in /var/log/httpd/ssl_request_log

Re: [Engine-devel] [Users] oVirt 3.3.3 beta is now available

2014-01-17 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
On Tue, Jan 14, 2014 at 8:21 PM, Sandro Bonazzola sbona...@redhat.com wrote:
The oVirt team is pleased to announce that the 3.3.3 Beta is now
available in beta [1] repository for testing.

I would like to say that I was able to pass from 3.3.2 to 3.3.3beta1
without any downtime as far as VMs are concerned and my GlusterFS
based DC.
I also put my line inside wiki testing page.
My setup is composed by a fedora 19 server used as engine (actually a
vSphere VM) + 2 Fedora 19 server used as Hypervisors (BL685 G1
blades).
3 VMs configured: CentOS 5.10, CentOS 6.4, Fedora 20
Starting point is Fedora 19 with stable repo and a GlusterFS Datacenter.
Gluster version on the two nodes is 3.4.2-1.fc19 and I have set quorum
policy this way:

gluster volume set gvdata cluster.quorum-type none

This lets me maintain DC and VMs active also with only one host active
at a time.

Steps done:
- enable beta repo on engine
- engine-setup -- proposed to update ovirt-engine-setup package
- yum update ovirt-engine-setup
- engine-setup -- ok, downloaded new packages and setup
- 1 day test with new engine and keep hosts the same version
- migrate all 3 VMs to the currently SPM host (host2)
- put non SPM host1 in maintenance
- enable beta repo on host1
- stop vdsmd on host1 (possibly not necessary...)
- yum update on host1
- merge between /etc/vdsm/logger.conf and created .rpmnew
NOTE: in December I previously changed DEBUG entries to INFO in this file.
In 3.3.3 they are yet set to DEBUG, but there is a new entry for ha engine
- it could be useful to put this note in release notes if one simply
updates host and doesn't redeploy it
(in this last case I don't know if a yum remove / yum install is made
or the same problem is present...)
In my case before merge this was the situation:
# diff logger.conf logger.conf.rpmnew
2c2
 keys=root,vds,Storage,metadata
---
 keys=root,vds,Storage,metadata,ovirt_hosted_engine_ha
11c11
 level=INFO
---
 level=DEBUG
16c16
 level=INFO
---
 level=DEBUG
22c22
 level=INFO
---
 level=DEBUG
32a33,38
 [logger_ovirt_hosted_engine_ha]
 level=ERROR
 handlers=
 qualname=ovirt_hosted_engine_ha
 propagate=1

43c49
 level=INFO
---
 level=DEBUG

So after the merge I have the new config file but with the INFO
settings instead of DEBUG.
- shutdown -r of host1
- activate host1 in webadmin gui
- migrate all 3 VMs to the new version host1
- some tests accessing consoles
- select host1 as SPM in webadmin gui before working on update for
host2; wait and see -- ok
- put host2 in maintenance
- enable beta repo on host2
- stop vdsmd on host2
- yum update on host2
- merge new /etc/vdsm/logger.conf
- shutdown -r of host2
- activate host2 in webadmin gui
- migrate all 3 VMs to the new version host2
- test access to consoles

Bye,
