2007-05-22 Thread Johan Sånesson

Hi,

We are students of Lund University doing our Bachelor thesis for the Systems
Design-programme.

We are conducting research on why and how FOSS projects fork. The aim of the
research is to better understand the special issues regarding FOSS-projects
with regards to the forces leading up to a fork. We hope that any knowledge
gained from this can be incorporated in the future education of System
analysts. Our focus is the motivation of the developers involved. We are now
looking for developers from the XFree86 and X.Org projects who would like to
share their experience and thoughts with us to base our research on.

If you are interested in helping us please reply in private to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED]

If you desire to be anonymous we will take action to ensure this. Obviously
it will be hard to mask what projects has been involved in the study as we
have contacted you in public allready. However, the interviews will be
anonymized by the best of our abillities while still retaining credibillity
for the data. Before finalizing the thesis all participators will recieve an
altered copy of their transcript (the one which will be published) to
approve it. We appreciate the sensitivity of the matter, however it will be
hard to conduct scientific research without some means to validate the
conclusions. If the interviewee does not find the altered transcript
acceptable we will discard the transcript, or the sensitive parts thereof,
and not use it in our research.

Regards,
John Nilsson

Dear Sirs,

Have you any reccomendations on IDEs for developing GUIs? I currently use
Eclipse CDT. I would prefer to remain with this system given that I
currently use it on both my Linux and Windows/Cygwin machine.

Thanks,

2005-03-16 Thread Charles Dobson
I have built X for a PorwerPC board with a Silicon Motion video
controller. I have all the resolutions and colour modes working
with the exception that depth 24 and 16 have the colour information
byte swapped.

I can modify the offsets and masks for depth 24 but cannot
get depth 16 correct because of the byte swapping.

Is there a easy way to buid XFree86 with the frame buffer
memory accesses byte swapped without swapping the MMIO register
accesses ?

There is an XTrap man page. For XTEST, pick out
xc/doc/hardcopy/Xext/xtest.PS.gz and xc/doc/hardcopy/Xext/xtestlib.PS.gz from

Communications Research to Initiate Marketing of
TeleWRITER at Upcoming InfoComm Conference

Reasons to own CRHI.OB:

TeleWRITER has not been upgraded for over 5 years but
nonetheless still commands a very loyal following.
Communications Research acquired the software 2 years
ago and will have its upgrade completed just in time
for InfoComm. Beta testing will begin almost immediately
and sales are expected to kick off in October. TeleWRITER
sales will add considerably and immediately to the company's
bottom line. CRHI's Systems Integration division is also
performing above expectations and they have recently hired
a number of contract employees to assist the company on
fulfillment.

Communications Research to Initiate Marketing of TeleWRITER
at Upcoming InfoComm Conference.

MAHWAH, N.J., May 18, 2004 (PRIMEZONE via COMTEX) --
Communications Research, Inc. (CRHI) announced that it will
begin marketing TeleWRITER 3.0, the upgraded version of the
TeleWRITER product line, at InfoComm June 9-11, 2004 in
Atlanta, Georgia. TeleWRITER is a premier product in the
collaborative computing market, which is pegged at in excess
of 3 billion this year.

We have been receiving numerous requests for the upgrade
and are on the verge of being able to supply the pent-up
demand for our product, remarked Communications Research
CEO Carl Ceragno. InfoComm affords us the opportunity of a
huge industry event at which to make a big splash and to let
the industry know we're back with a vengeance. TeleWRITER's
feature rich software, low price point and ease of
interoperability should make it a huge hit in the burgeoning
distant learning and tele-commuting markets. We anticipate
quickly re-capturing former clients and rapidly developing
new sales to catapult the company.

Subject: Problems with DMC touch screen driver (FIT-10 controller).

2003-06-30 Thread Marcel van der Veen

I have a problem with the DMC touch screen driver. Almost everything is
working fine except clicking a button. I think the reason is that XFree86
doesnt get a ButtonRelease event after releasing the button (touch
screen).

I conclude this from the events that occur.

Example nr1:

If I push a button, the button keeps pushed-down until I push on
another location. Normally with a mouse you push the left mouse button and if
you dont release the left mouse button, the button on the screen will be
pushed down.

Example nr2:

If I want to drag a window I push and hold the window and drag it over
the screen. When I release the window (I stop pushing the touch screen) I can
move the window by using a mouse without touching any buttons from the mouse.

I think XFree86 didnt get a ButtonRelease event because it is
still reacting like someone pushed and hold the left button to drag a window.
Physically nobody is touching the buttons from the mouse or touching the touch screen.

Congiguration of the system:

There appears to be a memory leakage problem on the client side when using X
shared memory extension. This leak only appears when the size of the shared
image is less then (about) 128kB. The whole allocated memory leaks, meaning it's
not freed properly. The version of X I'm using is 4.2.1.

2003-02-14 Thread Diego Liziero
I know that this issue has been already posted some time ago,
there are 2 main projects working on mach64 chip:
- gatos.sf.net (that is working on TVout and XVideo)
- dri.sf.net (as regards 3D)

I think that both of them did a great job even if they are still beta.

mach64 chip is getting older and older and these patches are still
out of the xfree86 CVS.

Now I've to untar the beta dri drivers and restart X when I need 3d
and need to untar the beta gatos drivers and restart X when I need XVideo.

I would really like if at least one of these 2 project is soon included
in XFree86 (with the default set to disabled if you're worried about
stability) so I've just to get the patched binaries of the other one
to have my mach64 card fully working.

And I think that this will lead to more beta testers that will hopefully
speed up the development (hoping that there are still people using
this old chipset).

Could anyone here if this merge can happen before xfree86 4.3.0?
