Barry,

I think you'll find that XFree86 already adds the EDID modes.

Additionally, it's more likely the driver that's ignoring CLOSEST_CLOCK
rather than XFree86 too. I didn't say it was XFree86 to blame here.

There's some work to fix all this up correctly and the i810 driver just
makes it worse when it has complete reliance on the Video BIOS.

BTW the Xorg folks are also fighting this problem. See Xorg bugzilla

Send the full log file, including one with 'XFree86 -autoconfig' if that's
not your default.
