I also, not infrequently, improve formatting (e.g. wrapping output in
{noformat} or code in {code}) and fix typos where I believe this will
make it easier for (me and) others to read. However, I have also on
occasion accidentally clicked the edit pen when I meant to write a new
comment, with problematic consequences (I think I put it back the way
it was, once I noticed ... but what if I did this and failed to notice ?)

Putting it in a menu would also reduce the foot-gun risk.
And yes, the old icons were less intrusive, but I can live with the
buttons (although the fact that they're buttons close to the "Add
comment" one might increase the foot-gun risk.)

Hi Alex,

IMO everybody should only be able to modify their own comments.

This is true for almost all cases; but I remember e.g. fixing links in
other's comments to make further reader's life easier.

But that is such a rare thing that it should be hidden in a menu or so.

So yes, I reverted the behavior but maybe not in the sense you expected ;)

It looks much cleaner now, I think I can live with that :)

Hi Thiago,

Some users see the option to edit anyone's comments. I don't know what group
options applied, but I am on that list.

I think this is the Approvers group. My Jira possibilities increased
massively when I gained Approver rights.

I preferred the less intrusive older UI, but I can work with this.

Same here.

I must assume this was intentional by Atlassian. I did a quick search for a UI
option to revert it but could not find a way. It is indeed a bit too much in
the face.

>Any chance to revert this to the old behavior (maybe a setting)?

There is no UI setting I know of but there is a permission mis-configuration
here. IMO everybody should only be able to modify their own comments. This
permission should only go to a selected group. While the issue log tracks all
changes it could lead to a situation where one user "puts words into the mouth
of another". I rectified it by adjusting the permission scheme.

So yes, I reverted the behavior but maybe not in the sense you expected ;)

Re: [Development] Jira update on 3rd Janaury 2023

2023-01-03 Thread André Hartmann

Hi Alex,

it seems I now have gray "Edit" and "Delete" buttons below every Jira
report comment. I think that was a pen at the right top of every comment
in the old version.

Was this change intentional?

For me, this disturbs the thread reading flow and it is easy to click
such a button by mistake.

Any chance to revert this to the old behavior (maybe a setting)?

Regards, André
