Hi John and Faith,
Akros hosts a test server that we make available to students and
partners for experimenting, etc., and I would be happy to make it
available to you. It closely resembles the test instance on the
dhis2.org site, but it does not reset as frequently. Please contact me
directly and I will get you set up with a user id and password.

Re: [Dhis2-users] Interested in DHIS 2

2016-02-24 Thread Bob Jolliffe
I can maybe add further to Knut and Jason's advice. Setting up dhis2 a
critical piece of web based infrastructure which remote users can rely on
to be available, secure, well tuned etc does imply a range of
infrastructural skills related to things like networking and linux system
administration (not to mention infrastructure) which are not always
immediately at hand.

It is (relatively) easy to get up and running. But to provide and maintain
a production level of service is more effort which needs to be planned
for. It might imply internal capacity development, outsourcing or some
measure of in between. Organisations have varied in their approaches
depending on their constraints and ambitions. (Of course it might be that
you are already sitting with the required infrastructure and labour and
just need the installation instructions)

Many places have found the dhis2-tools (described in Ch 20 of
implementation guide
http://dhis2.github.io/dhis2-docs/2.21/en/implementer/html/ch20.html) a
useful collection of scripts to structure and maintain their systems - and
automate some of the more complex installation steps in the manual.

Hello,

Just to add to Jason's reply: There is considerable difference between
working with the system on your laptop (which is pretty easy) and setting
it up on a web server for access across the net. Attached are some slides
on how to get it working on Windows.

We also offer regional training workshops https://www.dhis2.org/academy and
are about to launch an online version, which will probably be useful for
learning the ropes. There are lots of videos already on YouTube, but some
of them are a bit long-winded and dated.

The user mailing list that Jason pointed to is the best option for targeted
technical questions.
