TL;DR We are moving to Discourse for discussions and communications, Launchpad
is going away! https://community.dhis2.org/

During the last Experts Academy, we introduced the DHIS2 Community of Practice
(CoP). The CoP is a response from many of you for a one-stop shop to find
relevant resources and information online. The CoP will be a forum to ask DHIS2
questions and receive many answers with the possibility to start a discussion.
It will be a place to publish DHIS2 roadmaps and discuss new features, get
comments and feedback from the community, and connect with sector-specific
implementers.
The DHIS2 community has been using Launchpad as the mode of communication.
There are many useful functions with Launchpad but we have found that the
Discourse platform will meet more of the needs of the community. We believe
this move will enable us to have more in-depth conversations, include more of
the existing community members and reach new ones. Discourse can also function
as a mailing list and below are five other features that Discourse offers which
would be advantageous to the DHIS2 CoP:
   - Ability to highlight contributors (e.g., badges for most answers to
questions, likes, topics created) so we can recognize people who have been
significant participants in conversations and helped others.

   - Ability to build sub-forums to enable more focused discussions (e.g.,
Case-based surveillance, CHIS, Security, Mobile) where interested parties can
talk in detail without the entire community being notified.

   - Ability to reduce duplicate posts by showing related questions, pinned
posts, etc.

   - Ability to add features like FAQ, voting for features or right answers,
@mentioning relevant user groups or development teams, analytics on activity.

   - Ability to keep engaging the community by sending out weekly emails with
the most active discussions.
To see how the DHIS2 CoP is set up, check out http://community.dhis2.org and
start testing out the new categories and provide feedback on how you think the
CoP looks so far.
Note also that all mailing list posts would be migrated from the existing lists
so that you can claim and own your old posts and we can start recognizing major
contributors immediately!
The aim is to migrate to Discourse completely in the end of November, with the
official closing of the Launchpad lists and launch of the new DHIS2 CoP on
November 29th.
You can contact commun...@dhis2.org for any questions - or of course post it on
Discourse.

best regards,
Karoline and Lars

This is in order to take advantage of certain SQL features introduced in that

If you plan to upgrade your PostgreSQL version we recommend going straight to
version 10, as it contains several great features and performance improvements.
Also, we will eventually require this version and so going directly to version

[Dhis2-users] Invisible but imported data

2016-10-07 Thread Dayo Adeyomoye
Hi Lars,
We have a DHIS2 we are running in our organisation hosted by BOASystems. For Q1
and Q2 2016, data is not showing up in pivot tables and the likes. However,
when we try to import data during dry run, it displays the summary showing that
a certain number of entries have been updated. It means that the data is there
but not showing up.
What could cause this.

Hi all,
DHIS version 2.21 is out with a lot of great new features and improvements.
Log in with admin/district on the demo system.
File cloud storage: You can now upload and store large files directly from data
entry forms. Data elements can have a file value type and render as file upload
widgets in forms. Files can be stored either on the Web server or sent directly
to AWS S3 cloud storage, which in practice provides unlimited storage capacity.
This capability allows you to use DHIS 2 as a general document repository which
can be utilized for project management, documentation, CMS and many other
purposes.
File storage currently works for aggregate data entry forms - tracker coming
up. Have a look at the “Project management” data set in data entry on the demo:
Demo | Docs | Screenshot

Settings app: The settings front-end has been re-written as a true app. It
features real-time saving, search for settings and a fresh new look.
Demo | Docs | Screenshot

Data import constraints: Several optional constraints for data import can be
enabled to provide stricter control of the data being imported. These include
require period to be of same type as data set, data element to be assigned to
data set through org units, and more. The import constraints can be enabled in
settings app under “data import”.

ANALYTICS FEATURES---
Functions and variables in program indicators: Program indicators support a
range of functions and variables. Functions allows for conditional statements,
calculation of number of days between dates and more. Variables allows you to
insert e.g. event date, enrollment date and value count into expressions. This
is useful for example to calculate “inpatient bed days” and complex scores.
Docs | Demo 1 | 2 | Screenshot 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |

Custom aggregation types: A program indicator now has an aggregation type
property with the standard options such as sum, avg, count, std dev min, max.
When set to custom, the indicator expression can contain inline aggregation
types, allowing for greater control over aggregation.
Docs | Screenshot

Program indicators and data elements in GIS: The GIS app lets you analyse
program indicators, attributes and data elements on maps.
Demo | Screenshot 1 | 2

Program indicators in event reports: The individual event overview supports
program indicators, which allows you to display calculations per event directly
in the overview.
Demo | Screenshot

Download data dump: Pivot table lets you download data in CSV format directly
without first rendering the data in the Web browser (which might lead to the
browser freezing for large data volumes). This allows you to download much
larger batches of data which is useful for later offline analysis.
Screenshot

Complete events only option: All analysis apps provides an option for only
including completed events in the aggregation process. This is useful e.g. to
exclude partial events in indicator calculations.
Screenshot

Full precision option: Pivot table has an option for “skip rounding” of values,
i.e. full precision of values. This is useful for certain data types such as
financial data, and when doing calculations in external systems.
Screenshot

Aggregation type for attributes: Tracked entity attributes have an aggregation
type property which lets you control how attributes are aggregated in pivot
tables, charts and analytics.
Screenshot

TRACKER FEATURES---

Attribute categories in event capture: Data set categories can be enabled for
programs without registration and be used in the event capture app. This means
that events can be attributed to projects and partners just like it can be for
aggregate data sets. You can enable it by setting a category combination for
the program. Check it out on the demo for the
Demo | Screenshot

Sticky right side widgets: In tracker capture, the right-side widgets can be
made “sticky”, meaning that they remain at the top of the screen when scrolling
down the page. You can enable this by clicking the “sticky” icon in the
top-right corner of the dashboard screen. This is useful for example to display
key patient information while entering data.
Screenshot

Program rule warnings and errors: The program rules let you define warning and
error messages as actions based on rule evaluation. This is useful e.g. to
provide assistance and guidance to health workers based on medical best
practises during consultations. It can also be used for data validation
purposes, e.g. to provide warnings for values out of range or logical
violations between data elements. Program rules are supported in tracker

Subject: [Dhis2-users] dhis version 2.19 is released    Hi all,    DHIS version
2.19 is out. We have some great new features for you.    DATA ANALYSIS FEATURES
Data ranges in event analysis: In event reports and visualizer you
can define and display numeric values in ranges. This is useful e.g. for age,
weight and scores where aggregate values can be presented in ranges such as
“1-5”, “5-10” as opposed to by discrete numbers. The ranges are based on legend
sets (must be created in GIS for now). You can enable ranges from a drop-down
next to each data item in the left panel.    Report demo |Chart demo | Report
docs | Chart docs    Plain tables in event reports: In event reports you can
display the items from multiple data elements and attributes as a single
dimension. Normally each data element is displayed a separate dimension. You
can enable this from “Layout” “Collapse data dimensions”. This allows you
e.g. to create large reports with items from many data elements coming down on
the rows.    Demo |Table screenshot | Layout screenshot    Value dimension and
aggregation operator in event analysis: In event reports and visualizer you can
define which data element to use as the metric to display in the report or
chart. You can also define which aggregation operator to use for that metric.
E.g. you can now display the average weight or age in the report. You can
enable this from “Layout” in the “Value” box.    Report demo |Chart demo |
Table screenshot | Layout screenshot    Enrollment output type in event
analysis: In event reports and visualizer you can select the output type, which
refers to how the system counts the number of matches for the criteria. You can
select between number of “events”, number of “enrollments” and number of
“tracked entity instances” (persons). This is useful for tracker programs.
Screenshot       Hide n/a options in event analysis: In event reports and
visualizer there is a new option for hiding n/a data items. Often, several data
elements might not have a value for events which will lead to rows and columns
with a count of n/a. From “Options” “Hide n/a data” you can now easily hide
all those items when desired.    Demo |Screenshot    This relative periods: New
relative periods have been added for this week, this month, this quarter and
this six-month in all five analysis apps and analytics Web API.    Screenshot
Aggregation type: In data visualizer you can specify the aggregation type for
the chart items. You can select between sum, count, std dev, variance, max, and
min. This is useful when more than one aggregation type is needed per data
element. Std dev and max/min are useful to look for outlier values and data
quality issues. The demo shows std deviation for immunization doses
administered.    Demo |Screenshot       Identifier schemes in analytics output:
You can choose between using UID, code and name as identifiers when you
download pivot tables or access the analytics Web API. This is useful e.g. when
you want to export aggregated data and exchange it with a third-party system
which are synchronized on meta-data codes.    Screenshot

CONFIGURATION AND SYSTEM MAINTENANCE FEATURES        Variable substitution
in SQL views: You can insert variables directly in SQL views and pass in values
to be substituted in the request URL. This adds flexibility in how you create
SQL statements, and can improve performance since you can place variables in
the main where query, as opposed to filtering the entire

 Hi all,
DHIS version 2.18 is out. We have some nice new features for you.

New and interactive dashboard: The dashboard has received a lot of improvements.
Demo (login with admin/district)
- Interactive items: The map items let you zoom in or out and drill down/float
up between layers. Click on series in charts to hide or show them. Hover over
maps and charts to see data values and details.
  Screenshot
- Google maps: The map dashboard items now use Google maps as background layer.
  Screenshot
- Re-size items: You can re-size items and switch between normal, double and
full width by clicking on the resize link on the item headers.
  Screenshot
- Event reports: You can now include event reports in your dashboard.
  Screenshot
- Smarter search: Search by words independently to find favorites more easily,
e.g. “ANC district”.
  Screenshot
- More features: Support for pivots with legend sets, facility map layers and
radius for map points.
  Screenshot
- Better looks: The dashboard items are rendered using the pivot table, data
visualizer and GIS components which give a better visual appearance.

Simpler configuration and loading of apps: Apps are now loaded by default
through the Web API without any need for configuration. The benefit is that you
can upgrade your DHIS 2 version without affecting already installed apps. The
app configuration can be set through the apps Web API resource.
Screenshot | Docs

Managed users: A new “managed users” concept for user management has been
introduced. This allows you to explicitly define which users are allowed to
modify which users. This is done by defining users groups to manage other user
groups through the standard user interface. To enable this you should grant
users the authority to Add/update users within managed groups instead of the
normal “Add/update users”.
Screenshot | Docs

Replication of users: New feature for creating an identical copy of a user,
with a new username and password. Replicating accounts is useful when working
with support requests related to access control. Select a user in from the user
list, select replicate and enter new credentials.
Screenshot | Docs | Demo

Tracker enrollment history: In tracker capture dashboard you can now list
historical enrollments by clicking on “History” and view captured data for each
of them. Notes can be added to historical events.
Screenshot | Demo

Easy enrollment for relatives: A program can be configured to present shortcuts
for relatives, which now can be easily enrolled into a specified program. As an
example, for a “mother and child” program you can now specify that the child
should be added into a “immunization” program. This will make the
immunization pre-selected in relationship dialog.
Screenshot

Favorite names in dialogs: In all analysis apps you can see the name of the
current favorite in the header of the favorite and share dialogs. This makes it
simpler to see which favorite you are working on e.g. when updating favorites.
Screenshot | Demo

CORS support: DHIS 2 now supports Cross-origin resource sharing (CORS), which
is a mechanism that allows resources to be requested from another domain. This
means most notably that you can make requests to the DHIS 2 Web API from a web
page or portal living on another domain than the DHIS 2 instance. The domains
which should be allowed access must be defined under system settings remote
access.
Docs | Screenshot

See apps authorities: We have added authorities for seeing apps so that you can
control per user roles who should be allowed to access which apps from the top
menu.
Screenshot

Clear local storage app: A new app has been added for clearing the application
storage, which is the area where DHIS 2 stores data locally in the web browser.
This is sometimes tricky to clear and web browsers have different menu layout
for doing it, so an app is useful e.g. when doing user support.
Screenshot | Demo

Attributes for program: Dynamic meta-data attributes can now be defined for
programs from data administration attributes.
Screenshot | Demo

Remove expired invitations: A new maintenance function has been added under
data administration maintenance for deleting users which represent user
account invitations which now have expired. This is useful when you send out a
lot of user invitations and need to clean up after some time.
Docs | Demo

Infrastructural indicator data in GIS: You can configure an indicator group as
“infrastructural” under general system settings, which will subsequently show
up with indicator data in a dialog when left-clicking on an area or point in
GIS.

True but even at that link, Chrome is recommended.

DHIS 2 is written according to the W3C standard for HTML and CSS and runs on
any standard compliant web browser like Chrome,Firefox, Opera, Safari 4 and
Internet Explorer 8+. The DHIS 2 team recommends Chrome as it provides
excellent performance for Javascript-intensive applications like DHIS 2.

The recommended browser for DHIS2 is Google Chrome and it also has to be the
latest version as some older versions has issues of not displaying the Org Unit

Oh thanks  Bram and Jason.

I actually used the original DBF from the unmodified Shaprefile and even
without trying to use any projection but doing a direct conversion into GML, it
still have the same issues.

What if I just use the original shapefile, dbf and shx instead of trying to
work it down at mapshaper.org.

Does this have a an effect on the database and GIS?

Thanks a lot

That is exactly what I did. Same thing I did for the Level 2 of this shape file
and it worked.

I am still not convinced it is a problem with the DBF though, as clearly the
projection which you provided in the first conversion was not correct.

Hi Adedayo,

If you need to modify attributes in the dbf file, you should only do this in
a GIS software such as www.qgis.org - never modify the dbf on its own (eg in
Excel) as this will result in a corrupt shapefile. It's also much easier to
define the projection or to convert to a different projection in QGIS, and
once you have your shapefile ready you can simply save it as a gml file.

Thanks a lot Jason. I also tried converting without first trying to convert
to 4326 knowing that it may already be in that projection. I noticed later on
that This conversion worked if i didn't use the original dbf file that I
downloaded with it. I mean it converted when I used the dbf file generated
after working on it at mapshaper.org.

As soon as I changed the dbf file to the one downloaded from the shapefile
site, it produced the error.

The dbf file might be bad though. I have downloaded another from a new site
and hopefully it will work.

Try looking here http://www.epsg-registry.org/

and this is not a valid projection.

However, looking from the bounding box, it looks like it may be 4326 to
begin with.

Why do you think you need to use  EPSG:14684  as the source projection?

Very true as Jason suggested. we had this issue too sometime in May of this
year.

here is what we did below:

The problem was due to indicators that consisted data elements that had been
dissociated from datasets. All I did was to delete all these indicators and
slight associations . I am really grateful for the help of every one. This DHIS
family is so great and I have not come across such love for support and success
anywhere else yet.

Hi David,
I am not sure what the exact problem could be, but we had a number of
issues when upgrading to 2.11 to 2.13. This was caused by a number of
things you should check for.

1) Invalid expressions in indicators
2) Invalid expressions with no indicators, or which otherwise cannot be
upgraded
3) Orgunit groups with the same name

You may see an error in the debugging mode of your browser, which throws an
error when trying to retrieve the metadata. You should also check your
server logs when you try and load the data entry forms.

Of course, you should be 100% sure you have cleared your browser cache
completely, as this could also be a problem.

Regards,
Jason

Currently the system is being used country wide for reporting from all

Has anyone experienced this and what is the solution ?  I have attached a

Re: [Dhis2-users] Downloading DHIS2 war fails. - Now day 2

2013-05-23 Thread Dayo Adeyomoye
Bonjour,

The war file is not so big for a broadband though just 82 MB. How are you
trying to download it? Are you downloading from terminal on a Linux production
environment or you are trying to download directly from the browser? which ever
way, this may help if you haven't tried it yet.

1. Using terminal
sudo wget stable.dhis2.org
2. Using Web Browser direct download
http://dhis2.org/download/releases/2.11/dhis.war

Hope this helps.

Dear Colleagues!
Bonjour from Kinshasa [RDC].
We are a in a kickstart to implementing DHIS2 here. We have been struggling to
download the dhis2.war v2.11 file now a second day without any success.
I wonder what the problem would be! We first though proxies and other
securities could be the reason and went onto a mobile broadband connection,
From all sorts of browsers to wget, and no avail.
If someone has this file, may them share via any means or compress it to an
uploadable email file size please?

We would be more than grateful.

Cheerio!

newly deployed DHIS2.11 that doesn't save any work done on the DHIS. once the
system is restarted it all goes back to square one, also Apache is not starting
automatically.

Subject: [Dhis2-users] Server specifications

Hi all,

in version 2.11 and later DHIS performs aggregation on-the-fly as opposed to
pre-aggregating data into data marts.

This raises the bar a little on your server's specifications, mostly in terms
of available RAM and disk read speeds.

Some rules-of-thumb server recommendations:

- RAM: At least 1 GB memory per 1 million captured data records per month or
per 1000 concurrent users. At least 4 GB for a small instance, 12 GB for a
medium instance.

- CPU cores: 4 CPU cores for a small instance, 8 CPU cores for a medium or
large instance.

- Disk: Ideally use an SSD. Otherwise use a 7200 rpm disk. Minimum read speed
is 150 Mb/s, 220 Mb/s is good, 350 Mb/s or better is ideal.

So we encourage you to invest in appropriate hardware to continue to benefit
from all the new features in DHIS. Hardware prices are coming down and value
for money is increasing at vps' like linode and digitalocean.

regards,

Lars

-

PS. For server admins, here are some tips to measure hard disk/drive read
speeds on Linux:

- Use the hdparm utility which will give you approximate read speed:

sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/sda

- If you are on a virtual server image without /dev/sda you can generate a
random file and test write and read speed like this:

dd if=/dev/zero of=testfile bs=4k count=200

dd if=testfile of=/dev/null bs=4k count=200

- To do a real-life test, you can install iotop (sudo apt-get install iotop)
and run it with

sudo iotop

then start DHIS in a new terminal and load a very large pivot table, then
monitor read speed from iotop. You should be seeing read speeds around 12 - 25
Mb/s. Be aware that database queries will be cached after some time.

Subject: [Dhis2-users] DHIS version 2.11 is released

Hi all,

DHIS version 2.11 is out and we have some great features for you:

- Web-based pivot table: Allows you to create pivot tables with data aggregated
along all data dimensions, including data element/organisation unit group sets.
Data dimensions can be arranged freely on columns, rows and as filters. You can
include totals and subtotals on all axis and control the table density and font
size under options. Your pivots can be saved as favorites and downloaded to
your local computer. This design goal is to allow users to create their own
reports with the data they need without any involvement of super-users.

A pivot table with immunization indicators for last 4 quarters by facility
ownership, type and location can be made like this (log in with admin/district):

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-pivot/app/index.html?id=XWXTmFUffng

A pivot table with number of diagnosis by facility ownership and type with
totals and subtotals looks like this (notice that diagnosis are data element
groups):

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-pivot/app/index.html?id=vlnZeGhgw1T

A pivot table for vaccines, broken down on categories, age group and point of
service, last 12 months:

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-pivot/app/index.html?id=z31v4RMNqnu

A pivot table with reporting rates, major forms for public facilities by
location and type, last 12 months:

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-pivot/app/index.html?id=VHewKMjyLnR

We encourage you to play around - select dimension items for the left menu and
arrange dimensions from Layout in the top menu. Documentation can be found
here:

http://dhis2.org/doc/snapshot/en/user/html/ch15.html

- Data analytics Web-API resource: A flexible API for retrieving aggregated,
analytical data for all data dimensions using a simple query syntax. The pivot
table module is built on top of this API. It allows developers of third-party
apps and web portals to connect to DHIS 2 and query for any type of aggregated
data, where any number of dimensions and filters can be specified. Data can be
retrieved in json, jsonp, xml, csv, html and xls (Excel) format and responses
can be constrained with criteria like greater than, equals and so on.

A query for retrieving data for certain data elements, periods and organisation
units might look like this:

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/api/analytics?dimension=dx:fbfJHSPpUQD;cYeuwXTCPkUdimension=pe:2012Q1;2012Q2dimension=ou:O6uvpzGd5pu;lc3eMKXaEfw

Documentation can be found here:

http://dhis2.org/doc/snapshot/en/user/html/ch25s18.html

- Sharing: Several objects including chart, pivot table, map, indicator and
data set can now be shared and have fine-grained access control. An object can
be made private to yourself, shared with any number of user groups or be made
available for all. You can grant edit or view-only rights to other people. You
can create user groups directly from the dashboard. Who should be allowed to
create public objects can be controlled through user roles.

This functionality is useful for example in a scenario where entities like
health programs and implementing partners need to create indicators and reports
which should be available only for members of their organisation. In this case,
an organisation can create a user group for their staff, then develop charts
and maps which could be made available for that organisation only. General
reports made by the ministry could still

I am having trouble with DHIS again, this time with the report tables.
Perhaps I am doing this wrong, but I created this report table called
Minimum Health Indicators Report, and am trying to look at our monthly
indicators by the year, for each country. Here is where the problem is, when
I look at 2012 data for any of the countries I pick, the data aggregated on
the report table is incomplete. For example, the report table for DRC only
provides data till April for 2012, but I know within the data entry, that
there is data till November 2012. This only happens for 2012, I looked at
2011, and the report tables are complete.

Please let me know how to resolve this issue.
