[DDN] Library of Congress series on the digital age

2004-11-15 Thread Champ-Blackwell, Siobhan
A new Library of Congress series, starting tonight on C-SPAN, includes
some interesting and knowledgeable people. The interview tonight has to
do with weblogs ("blogs"), their effect on the Howard Dean campaign, and
their potential usefulness. See the series description below.

Beginning Monday, November 15, 2004 until March 2005, C-SPAN will
broadcast live a series of discussions hosted by the Library of
Congress' John W. Kluge Center. The series will examine how the digital
age is changing the most basic ways information is organized and
classified. The goal is to educate the public on the what the digital
age means to their lives. The events will include a featured speaker,
followed by a panel discussion, and a question and answer session with
the audience at the venue, and C-SPAN television viewers. Our viewers
will be invited to email questions to the
experts.

Tonight:
David Weinberger, former senior internet adviser to the 2004
Howard Dean presidential campaign, will discuss how Web logs work & how
they are valuable in children's education.
The March 14 show will be an interview with Ed Ayers.

See http://www.c-span.org/congress/libraryofcongress.asp > for more
information.

[DDN] GLD8 AND GLD9

2004-11-15 Thread John Hibbs
Global Learn Day 8 takes place this weekend, a 24 hour non stop event as per
http://www.bfranklin.edu/gld8. On this list there are lots and lots
of smart people. We would love to have you as audience or 'show and
tell'. Nothing hard about it. Just write to me.

Global Learn Day 9 will take place October 9, 2005. In the next 60
days, starting during Sunday afterroon this weekend, we will be
deciding what are the eight most important topics related to
innovative uses of the Net to improve education and training. Five of
the topics are well sorted out and one of them, for sure, would
interest most of you.

The other three? We don't know, so we will be brainstroming this on
Sunday afternooon, over the phone and over the net, 21 October -
sometime around 2pm-3pm PST.

Again, I would love to have you. Call or write, on or off list, and I
will give you more details if you have an interest in this.

Worth a read for anyone dealing with ICTs and FLOS; discussion welcome
on the site so that it's centralized and becomes part of the article -
in keeping with the FLOS methodology.
