[digitalradio] Re: Time for a "Digital Skimmer" ?/Hamspots and PSKreporter

2010-01-12 Thread obrienaj

After thinking about this some more... I think that most of what I want IS
available .

DM780, Multipsk, and Fldigi all report to PSKreporter.

Hamspots picks data (filtered for redundancies, perhaps redundancies can be
allowed/toggled ? ) FROM PSKreporter and displays in a non-graphic intensive
manner. http://www.hamspots.net/home/

e.g.

Cluster & PSKReporter Spots
Age Spotter DX ST FreqMode
3m N7PAT N7MNK United States, ID ID 3580.00 PSK31
4m W6JMP KB5WMM United States, TXTX 7035.00 PSK31
4m IW4EGP F5CAC France1838.00 PSK31
4m W6HGF W0EAT United States, CO - lotw CO 3582.54 PSK31

What does it NOT provide that the CW guys get via CW Skimmer?

Not ALL digital modes are available on Hamspots in one place, as far as I can
tell.

It does not alert to QRL, 5NN, or "CQ.

You can't custom filter the information, yet (you can to a degree at
PSKreporter).

and as Wes pointed out. you can't telnet to the data and then filter in
something like Spotcollector. WI\ith Spotcollector getting data from CW Skimmer
, you have a really powerful custom tool for alerting all kinds of things.

So we have two sites, one with cool maps and LOTW spotting assitance. one with
just text. Pretty close to what we need, two nice choices. With DM780,
Multipsk, and Fldigi being very well used these days, you have a potentially
much larger pool of "skimmers/reporters" than CW Skimmer has on the CW side.
Of course, one major issue is the fact that unlike CW and Skimmer, digital mode
hunting involves about 10 common digital modes . The software does not allow
reporting of multiple PSK31 reports from the passband AND any other mode
detected via RS ID (you can do one of the two, not BOTH). You can achieve this
as I mentioned last week by running 2 apps at once...one decoding PSK31 in
panoramic mode and the other waiting for RS IDs.

It seems to me that Wes' point about Telnet access is perhaps the next
important advancement, then perhaps an ability to decode multiple PSK31 signals
AND trawl for other digital signals via RS ID at the same time.

Meanwhile, lets get as many of our reception reports sent to PSKreporter and
subsequently to Hamspots.

Thats odd. Havent looked, but you surely must have many different digital
contact modes than me. Mine esentially are rtty and PSK, with a very few MSHF
a couple HELL, etc. from some time ago. Maybe I just have more countries.
Will look at it a bit later. as trying some 160 tonight, and finally - fainlly
- got LZ1ANA after almost two months of hearing him and tearing my hair out
when he just CQd again. He is making lots of contacts tonight, so if anyone
has been trying, this is the time.

Let's assume that the main purpose of these sites is to let users know what
transmitting stations are on the air. Then it seems that the servers need
to collate the data, removing the redundancy and simplifying the problem of
large data sets. I would find it more useful to get a telnet stream of data
that I can feed into my station software. Essentially, it would be a DX
cluster site that I could use to tell if my friend is on the air, even if he
isn't DX.

I realize that these sites serve other purposes which would not be met by
this configuration.

I send six-band CW Skimmer data to Philip's site and really enjoy watching
how propagation changes with time. It is fascinating to see the Skimmer
data plotted on the map but I don't leave it on because I feel guilty
placing that much demand on his server. But when I want to operate a telnet
stream would be more useful.

I would love someone to take the data that pskreporter has and produce an
entirely different front end to it. I don't know what it would look like, but
it could be entirely text based. Alternatively, if you did away with the night
shading and only had a fixed zoom on the map, then all the images would be
cached, and the network bandwidth required would be trivial.

Displaying large amounts of data isn't an easy problem..

Suggestions please!

AW: [digitalradio] Mystery signal on 75M

2010-01-12 Thread Siegfried Jackstien
Make a tap in your trx at the last if….

If you can downconvert it to 12khz there is a decoding software for this
…(dream)

I put a downmixer from 455 to 12khz in my icom 765 and now I can use that
software for decoding drm

It´s nice to hear a short- or mediumwavestation in stereo and noisefree like
a local fm-station

Also very nice on fieldday … I listen to RTL on mediumwave in stereo very
often (almost daily)

The downmixer is just a few parts on a pcb as small as a stamp

A mixer ic (sa612) and a few caps, and a ceramic-resonator … that´s all

with that 12khz if- output you can do a lot of other neat things

there is many software out in the net for sdr …

and most of them can work with that 12khz-if (or are written for this)

software like if-dsp (ik2czl), winrad, multipsk!, power-sdr, dream, … to
name just a few …

for receiving of drm you have to switch to am or fm on your trx …

you need that 10kc wide signal downconverted to the 12 khz if so your rig
has to be set to that wide bandwidth

the mystery signal is bbc / dw …. The 2 stations are sharing the
transmitting sites in sines portrugal and skeleton uk

and sharing the qrg 3995….

You find lots of info here:

http://www.drmrx.org/forum/

this is a listeners forum where receiving results , technical stuff and
other things are posted

so now you have much to read hi hi ….

OK, I was thinking of the narrow bandwidth WinDRm and even better FDMDV that
we used until it was discovered we were using a proprietary codec. DRM for
HF broadcast really is pretty wide, comparatively. Thanks for the links.
