Flarq is based on pskmail but is not completely compatible.

If there is enough interest I could think of generating a C++ class for 
pskmail, 
that would also make it a bit faster :) Would take some time though.

I think you can trust this setup.exe. It is a Microsoft-generated 
installation program that only adds a few Microsoft DLL's to your system and 
installs the program files we have created. I'd go ahead and make an 
exception for this particular setup.exe.

I had one contact with AA6YQ on Olivia 500/8. There were actually two 
MFSK16 Q's going on, next to each and in between some of the Olivia 
stations. At least one was a regular digitalradio poster:)

I find MFSK16 to be much more tolerable than Olivia which also gives me 
a queasy sort of feeling. Nothing will probably ever be like Clover II 
which has to be about the most pleasant sounding digital mode. Nothing 
like raucous Pactor which is one of the worst!

But when you mentioned Red Buttons and being stressed from music, I 
immediately assumed this would have to be his performance in "They Shoot 
Horses, Don't They?". Not a recommended movie for an uplifting time 
however.

I like movies with reasonably happy endings. Maybe something like "The 
Game."

HF Packet is very much alive and well, just not on the Yahoo groups.
You need to tune 14.105 and you will hear lots of HF packet. It is
known as Network 105 and has been there for about 20 years. I myself
was active here until recently, when I had to re-dedicate the computer
 that I was using for that to other things. There is a users group,
but it is on its own server. Contact Burt, VE1AMA for all the details.

I did leave JT65A running, and I can email a text file of what I picked 
up if anyone wants it, rather than clogging up the reflector with it.

I made 3 contacts using Olivia, and one 'gotaway' that I did not count 
as he got my callsign slightly wrong just before the signals faded out 
completely.

My brief Olivia log looks like this (I will submit it properly Andy,

I tend to operate with the sound down on the radio, and only use the 
various monitor functions sparingly, so it's usually quiet in the shack 
when I'm playing digital modes.

The only exception being CW, as I prefer to read that myself, rather 
than use automatic decode, which has its own problems of course.

I took a look at it, but didn't bother to register. It looks like somebody 
started a Yahoo group but did not know how to announce or promote the group 
to prospective members.

To be honest, there is very little reason to resort to a Yahoo group for a 
discussion about HF Packet when you have access to the Packet network 
itself. - So another reason the group never took off might be that it is 
redundant.

track of the DRCC members that I work per band and mode.  However, the 
latest database system exports the information with speechmarks arround 
the DRCC number and name and I don't want them.

Can anyone advise how best to remove the speechmarks without having to 
do this manually please?  I'm importing the CSV formatted file into Excel.

Just a minor note, some of the Microsoft libraries (dll's) you reference in
the program are older versions. I think you might need to download Visual
Studio SP6B, update the references and recompile? That should stop the "The
file being copied is older than the one presently on your system"
messages...

FWIW I always link using MFC in a static library - this way I never need to 
ship possibly conflicting DLL's.

Downside - program can be larger, upside - less problems with user support 
which can chew up time.

Right-click on the Taskbar and see if Quick Launch is checked. If not, check 
it. It sound like you are trying to drag it to the Taskbar and not the Quick 
Launch toolbar.

[digitalradio] The Pactor Strategy???

So, given we seem to have some Pactor people, not yet in the grave ;-)
Maybe we need to try and coordinate something as a few of us have
discussed here. I will go along with any ideas on band, freq etc.
My setup is flexible, can run a beacon if needed, set up a mailbox or
simply make itinerant CQ calls. I suspect IF I sit at the keyboard
waiting for the manager of the ionosphere, to generate some ideal
propagation possibilities..I could die waiting, at the keyboard :-)
Since unattended auto station operation is legal here (snicker!) The
mailbox may be a start with a bell, so IF I get a keybord contact, I
can hear it. Have various software I can run, according to the
features needed for my SCS PTCPro TNC.

Maybe a bit off topic but I have placed this on "Linux hams" with no 
reply, so apologies in advance.
This is the third time over 3 months that I have put a query on that 
forum without a reply, maybe the group is dead.


I have downloaded pskmail_pup_w-0.5.5, installed and runs ok in windows.
I cannot get PTT.
I have done a dmesg and only ttyS0 is listed. I cannot use this port as 
it is committed to CAT on a range of  windows applications.
I have a PCI Com card which Widows lists as Com3, and it is this port 
that I use for all PTT on all the other Windows programs.
Is there any way that this PCI com can be made to be seen by PUPPY, and 
subsequently used for PTT.

a PSK31 txt message form Texas to kh6 land I was
running 5w of power, we tryed a PSK63 but the band was
gone and I had no copy on him. I need to play around
and read up some more about this stuff..

Sorry I have to rain on the parade, but I am now in South Carolina, and no 
longer in Hawaii. :-(

However, what is significant is that even with band conditions degrading 
rapidly, you managed to send me a message using Flarq, and it was received 
flawlessly with only one repeated block.

I was running 10 watts to a 20m inverted Vee in my attic (on 30m!) to your 5 
watts with a Butternut in the side yard. Band was going out, but because we 
were using ARQ, the message came through without an error, even though the 
raw text on VBdigi had errors.

If I had a 30m antenna, I would have been much stronger. I am amazed we 
could had a QSO at all, under such poor conditions!

You are my first totally random ARQ QSO using the NBEMS, and I connected 
with your beacon signal, so I am very gratified with the result tonight!

depending on the card, probably. please run lspci and look at the
output. Once you know the maker and model of the card, you can google
around to see if it is linux-compatible. If it is, you can find out
what is necessary to enable it in puppy.

There is very little activity on HF Packet in VK, I suggest there are 
many TNCs gathering dust ;-) Groups are an ideal way to coordinate 
skeds and help with tech info for newbies and oldies alike.
Whilst there are many people using software based modem solutions, the 
good old TNC still has a place, with inbuilt mailbox and you can drive 
it with a battery powered dumb terminal, which is great for field 
portable ops.
Use the high tech PC stuff when you operate from the comfort of your 
lounge! 
Mailbox ops are OK in VK as we can run auto, unattended stations if we 
want :-)

Skip, I had two contacts today and transferred mail and files with both 
stations.
We started out on PSK125 and dropped to PSK63.  We had strong interference
from a Pactor (1 and 3) station.  FLARQ managed to work through the QRM
and get the files transferred. In some cases we had a lot of retries but it 
worked.

We did this between Illinois and Texas, and between North Carolina and Texas
so we did not have the benefit of NVIS.  This probably increased our retries.

Can we control the size of transmitted units? Or does the program reduce unit
size in difficult conditions?

Thanks for a great package.  We will be trying it out on VHF as well.

remains open through Sunday, January 6, 2008 for these online courses beginning 
on Friday, January 18, 2008: Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Level 2 
(EC-002); Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Level 3 (EC-003R2); Antenna 
Modeling (EC-004); HF Digital Communications (EC-005); VHF/UHF -- Life Beyond 
the Repeater (EC-008), and Radio Frequency Propagation (EC-011). Each online 
course has been developed in segments -- learning units with objectives, 
informative text, student activities and quizzes. 
 
Courses are interactive, and some include direct communications with a
