[tdf-discuss] Merging pkgsrc patches?

2010-09-28 Thread Thomas Klausner
Hi!

Congratulations on the new foundation!

Since there seems to be a lot of momentum here, I wonder if now would
be a good time to merge the pkgsrc patches for oo.o[1]? They have been
accumulating over the years and mostly provide NetBSD support for
oo.o.

Some of the patches can probably be applied as-is, but many of them
need to be discussed first. So I'm looking for a counterpart
interested in cross-platform fixes and handling a few dozen patches.

Let me know if you're interested!

No, in my case there was a localized 3.2.1_de installed, which was
overwritten which I do not appreciate for a beta behaviour.
Has this been in your sense or is it a bug?

LibreOffice can use old installed language packs of OpenOffice.org
previously installed in your system. It happened to me in my testing
machine, but I don't know if we can call this a bug :)

Re: [tdf-discuss] User guides for OOo / LibreOffice

And we are glad to read all the positive feedback - you are welcome :)

As Co-Lead of OOo Documentation, working mainly with the user guides
produced by the OOoAuthors group, I would certainly like to see our user
guides made part of the LibreOffice documentation set. Therefore I have
  some practical questions and comments.

  1) The website states All text and image content on
documentfoundation.org or libreoffice.org, unless otherwise specified,
is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0
License. Does the Foundation intend for community user docs to be under
the same license? I ask because the user guides are currently under dual
  GPL3/CC-BY3, not CC-BY-SA3.

I think, we should sort this out within the next weeks. Imho it is not
very usefull to change all the documentation licenses, just because we
put a CC-BY-SA3 on the (currently limited) content of our website.

Actually we are at the very beginning of our public existence and we
need to work on several topics. Maybe Bernhard (who worked on the OOo
trademark policy) and Christoph (who created the logos) can discuss this.

  2) To make the existing guides part of the LibreOffice docs, they will
need some amendment. Previous notes on this list talked about code
strings; unfortunately, we have never put appropriate variables into the
user guides to enable easy changes of name. In addition, some other
information (reference to support, extensions, etc) will need to be
changed. Who will be expected to do this work? These are community docs,
and the OOoAuthors group is part of the community, so I suppose we
  should do it.

I would suppose to wait for some days before you start. We should give
Oracle the chance to answer our invitation. If they join us and we can
use the OpenOffice.org brand, there would be no need to change anything.

I very much agree about waiting to see what Oracle does before we spend
any time making changes to the name in documentation.

Meanwhile, it should be business as usual at OOoAuthors -- there is
always much to do.

:-) well...
I assumed there's a difference between a localized version of OOo and a
version which is 'enhanced' with a separate langpack...

What I did not expect at all is the overwriting of a stable OOo install
and grabbing the OOo-user by a LO beta - I'd rather expect they would
install besides each other, creating a new user like the OOoDev versions
did.

impressive (especially since it must've been done fairly quickly) --
this is just my effort to help out in the most immediate way I know
 how (html/css theming).

To start, I could change the navigation buttons on the right-side of
the page to be an actual unordered list of text. I could have it look
exactly the same, but it would be real content, instead of pictures.
Also, I could allow it (*without* javascript pre-loading images) to
not flicker on mouse-over of each button. Also, I saw some
html-comments in the page stating some stuff that the initial author
didn't have the time to do, but would like to see done.

Anyway, I was about to actually code these changes in html/css but I
saw, don't edit this page! edit the PHP instead -- so I figured I'd
ask for a copy of the PHP file and save some effort :)

 Thanks,
 Jon
