This is critical when attempting to have OOo and LibO co-exist on Windows.

- LO takes over all OOo application defaults & icons.
- LO uses the same executable names as OOo (soffice.exe, swriter.exe,
etc). This makes it impossible to select an .odt and re-associate it
with OOo.

Re: [tdf-discuss] Re: PDF export in CMYK

2010-12-17 Thread Tibor Bamhor
Hi,
this might be very good solution, I'm going to investigate it deeper.
I'm using linux exclusively, my friend is using windows, but this might be
another (even though small ) reason for him to consider linux.

Thanks

Tibor

Re: [tdf-discuss] Survey: Usage of LibreOffice components

2010-12-17 Thread Jason Hackney
05% ~ Writer
90% ~ Calc
00% ~ Impress
02% ~ Draw
02% ~ Base
01% ~ Math

Don't think I'm using the quick starter. This is Sabayon.

Writer: Mostly notes and technical documents for myself and the occasional
memo.
Calc: A lot of work (aircraft weight & balance/performance/flight planning
calculators)
Impress: I hate Impress. Sorry.
Draw: Prefer Inkscape/Gimp, but Draw in a pinch.
Base: Most of my stuff can be done in a spreadsheet, but more complex things
go in Base. Very little.
Math: Only when I need to drop a pretty formula into Writer. Very rarely.

Cheers, -jason

Re: [tdf-discuss] Detailed instructions for installing LibreOffice on Macintosh

2010-12-17 Thread Uwe Altmann
Hi David

one more thing :-)

When a user wants to use his OOo-user-Prefs (aka "user"-foder) then he
just has to go to
   /Library/Application Support/

make a duplicate of the folder "OpenOffice.org"
rename the duplicate to "LibreOffice" (or just rename "OpenOffice.org"
folder to "LibreOffice" in case you do not longer use OpenOffice.org)
Done.

OK, I'll get them to you:
Download and open the *.dmg file and drag the LO Icon wherever you want.
If an older version exists in the same directory, it will be overwritten
(and therefore, all system wide preferences are lost, bug is known).
Parallel install of all known vrersions istpossible - just rename them.
(It's really more like coping a file)

LangPack:
Download and open the *.dmg file
Start the Program "OpenOffice.org 3.3 Language Pack" into the dmg.
Select the LO/OOo-Version you want to update with the langpack.
Click OK
done.

no, you may install so much versions as you want at the same time.

will do so.

Re: [tdf-discuss] Re: PDF export in CMYK

2010-12-17 Thread Fernand Vanrie

Alex,

Indeed using CMYK-eps can been done, but the pictures are not shown in
LO or OOdocuments. They "re-apear" in the final PDF made by a Windows
printer (not by the LO conversion) We used this technique for years,
starting with low-res Pictures in the OO-docs, and then just before PDF
making, we replace them with there EPS conterparts.
This is nowdays over ruled by an RGB workflow where we use Highres RGB
pictures (all in the same sRGB or AdobeRGB colorspace) then we makes
RGB-pdf's and tranfers the RGB-pdf to a CMYK-pdf for professional CMYK
printing.

Hi all,

I seem to recall that neither OOo, nor LibO implement CMYK colourspace,
but I also seem to recall having read somewhere that if you use EPS
images that are already CMYK compliant, instead of JPG, then you might
get a more acceptable PDF doc. Worth trying ? I don't remember exactly
because even EPS management within OOo/LibO wasn't brilliant. The only
other thing I can think of is Scribus...

[tdf-discuss] Detailed instructions for installing LibreOffice on Macintosh

2010-12-17 Thread David Nelson
Hi, :-)

I'm currently working on the content of the upcoming libreoffice.org
website. Obviously, on the site, there are going to be detailed
installation instructions for our users.

I don't have a Macintosh, unfortunately, and I need detailed
instructions for installing LibreOffice on Mac, *also* covering
installation of a language pack

I also need to know whether it is necessary to de-install a previous
version of LibO (or of OOo) before installing a new version. If so, I
need detailed instructions on how to de-install an existing version.

Could one of you Mac users out there help me out with this? (I need to
finalize the content this weekend, so that we can roll-out the site.)

If you're able to provide screenshots, this would be a great optional
extra. in that case, please feel free to mail them to me directly.

A big thanks if so! ;-)

Re: [tdf-discuss] PDF export in CMYK

2010-12-17 Thread Fernand Vanrie

Tibor

thank you both for answers, I understand now the situation...
My friend is historcian and he is not interested in learning any DTP technics –
that is quite understandable.
His first pdf exported from OO was flatly rejected as it was in RBG. It is
fault or shortcoming of this publishing shop but he will not change it.
Today, I found and tested pstill tool, it converts pdf to CMYK pdf, only colors
(in included photos) are somehow shifted, or undersaturated. I had not
investigated this issue yet, it might be something trivial …
No not trivial, thats wath i mend with using correct colorspace, when
the pictures in a LO doc are all the same colorspace, then tranforming
to CMYK has a better change to produce better colors.

This was some background, but I have following question:

You wrote:

„Important for this process is using the correct colorspace (sRGB or adobeRGB)
is more important and there are we have no tools in LO !“ - are you trying to
say, that OO/LibreOffice exports PDFs to wrong RGB type that can not be
converted properly into CMYK pdf? If this would be the case it would be quite
serious problem...
I supose LO is not touching the colorspace precent in the original
pictures, we slould have a tool (at least in draw) yo check the
colorspace in a picture and to alter this all to the same space.

Regards

Tibor

Tibor,

A few years ago i would say yes a good idea that "CMYK" but deaser days
RGB is a common workflow due to the online use of the same (rgb)

transfer off a RGB-pdf into a CMYK-pdf.
Important for this process is using the correct colorspace (sRGB or
adobeRGB) is more important and there are we have no tools in LO !

Fernand

Hi,
Friend of mine had an issue with openoffice, He was asked to deliver pdf in
CMYK colorspace. It is not possible by now AFAIK. But are there any plans or
any work being done in this regard? I just wonder, it is not critical issue for
me, nor for my friend. He used some Adobe product at the end...
