I was wondering if you'd like to take an active part in developing our template collection? If you were willing, you could help out by uploading templates to the wiki, and entering up links on the wiki page [1]. If you like, you could create yourself an author account on libreoffice.org [3], I could give you author permissions, and you could insert links in the templates page on the libreoffice site [2]? Do you happen to have time available for this, by any chance? If so, please let me know when you've created an account, and I'll give you the permissions. We could also look at which templates have been localized, and see about contacting the relevant NL site teams so that they can put them up for download. I hope I will have time to upload few templates, but also an option to keed such files in a versioned repo such as GIT or SVN (as linked in my first letter). Of course if we want to put files to wiki, I will help too. One biggest advantage to hold template files in repo that I can create (scripts are already available) extensions that contain all templates related to one language. Another one is versioning. First of all we should do some review work for already available templates. We should sort out the poor templates, and improve the already available templates before localization. Also I have several language neutral templates (in common section). I will try to reorganize layouts that usually good for all languages so they will move to common section. In license classification document we may add one more column to rate all templates. Hi, :-) In any case, Marc Paré has started work on accumulating some templates and storing them at [1] He seems to be very cautious from the licensing viewpoint. Hi Marc, On 10/01/2011 19:14, Marc Paré wrote: [...] Just to be safe, it looks like we will have to contact template authors to either get their permission to upload their templates on our wiki site or have them upload themselves to our wiki site. I have to say, this will take time. We also have to come to a definite format for posting links to the files, it looks like we will have to post the author's name along with the licence and date of creation. Due to the many variants of licences, it is just too much of a minefield for us to wade through (very much like the screenshots done on Windows boxes). I think it is best for us to take the safe approach and get authorship permission before uploading. There is also the problem that, by today's standards, this is obviously not a good looking solution. It would be better if there was a solution to do this on Silverstripe where authors could submit templates on their own. I am not sure if this is available, but IMO, it should really be done at site level. In the meantime, I will start mailing the authors personally. Additionally, I don't really think that we should be pointing to the OOo site for templates. We should be pointing to a site that is not in competition with us; this is regardless of how many templates they have. Pointing to our template wiki page, should therefore be the place where we point to. Nothing wrong with linking to the OOo template page from the website along with other LibreOffice compatible template sites. May be a solution would be to link to OpenTemplate.org site in the meantime. When the webiste team has decided how to correctly handle that, you'll change the link. May be it's not needed to rush and show something not finalized and not yet very useful. David Nelson I'll try to supply you with a couple more links once the OOo template site is reachable. It is down at the moment. There are a couple of sites with great templates but their licences is restrictive. We should have a link to their site anyway for our members to browse through. In the meantime, let's not forget the original post, where at opening, the launchpad has a template icon sending our users to the OOo template site. We should also recommend something for this. Perhaps a re-direct to the http://www.libreoffice.org/features/templates/ site temporarily. We could always do a redirect to our newly finished Template site if it is ready before 3.4.
