[IxDA Discuss] FW: Sharepoint

2008-01-18 Thread frank dahle
I'm in a situation where I'm forced to design a concept for an intranet based
on Sharepoint 2007.
So I'm trying to get our Sharepoint developers to accept to build an intranet
based on a dynamic dashboard concept.
In short this means a library of modules (web parts) from where an employee can
choose and put into his mySite - and into other sites he's responsible for on
this intranet.

It should then be possible to drag the chosen modules around and dynamicly
change their positions inside a pre-defined grid.
Employees should even be able to store several different mysite desktops
adjusted to the different kinds of roles one single employee can have.It seems
to me that just one mySite isn't enough, because one person often has as
different roles as: leader, project manager, project partisipant, sales person,
key account...

Problem is: the developers say it's to complicated to make this as user
friendly as I want it.
I want a WYSIWYG interface, where it's easy to experiment and try out and store
different layouts for each role the employee has.
But in Sharepoints standard interface wher you ca do this, nothing is easily
recognizable and it's far too easy to delete stuff by accident.
Also you can only store one single mySite layout per employee.

I could go on with all their arguments against a more dynamic and at the same
time intuitive intranet/mySite.

But It's more interesting to ask you if you know of any good examples of this
kind of concept based on Sharepoint - OR other platforms for that matter!?
It would help to show any concept like this that really works and is available
online..

thanx

frank

Re: [IxDA Discuss] Building portal with MOSS2007 - best practices?

2007-12-05 Thread frank dahle
Sharepoint also has it's own Frontpage inside called Sharepoint
Designer:
http://office.microsoft.com/nb-no/sharepointdesigner/HA101672591044.aspx

I also have a question: is it true that Sharepoint 2007 doesn't
support cross-publishing? Is there a way around this limitation?
It's an important function and there should be a way to do this
after all.
As a general view on SP2007 this tells me that SP2007 is for
intranets whith focus on collaboration but not corporate websites
where market communication is the main goal.

any views on this?

[IxDA Discuss] large tables and lists with lots of columns - where are the best practices?

2007-11-26 Thread frank dahle
Hello, I’m looking for some good practice on designing tables and lists for a
corporate web site.
The challenge is how to simplify very long tables of articles (technical parts)
with lots of parameters (columns).
I do have the Edward Tufte books and know that part of the story. But at this
moment I’d rather study some real life examples available on the net. Anyone?
Thanks!
