Re: [IxDA Discuss] IxDA London meet-up, more meetings - and money!

2008-03-14 Thread pauric
Josh: "[I'm posting this message for Nico Macdonald [nicolist at
spy.co.uk], who is having trouble posting to the list."

On that note, I've had terrible luck posting recently and have since
pretty much given up contributing (not that I had anything of value to
say... (o;) I wonder how many others out there are having the same
issues? I've tried tracking them down with Jeff, but couldnt nail
it alone. I'm pretty sure Lisa posted details of Boston's next
event, but cant see them on the site.

So, if this gets through, among all the other wonderful things
happening with the IxDA this year can we
a) allow new threads from the website
b) do a serious round of ironing out the final few critical bugs?

thanks

Hi Alexander:

Glad to see IxDA finally getting established in London. We do need
more fora both for socialising and for discussion of work, in the
spirit of 'This happened...', which 'sold out' in two hours, and the
AIGA Experience Design
 events I programmed
from 2000-2006. (In an earlier IxDA push, in 2004, Priya Prakash and
others programmed the talk 'Interaction Designers: Language!' in
London with Marc Rettig, and there is clearly an even greater audience
for such events in 2008.)

On Upcoming, list members may be aware that there is an Interaction
Design group which I moderate.
It has 100+ members and anyone serious about interaction design
discussion and debate is welcome to join. The group description is:

"Talks, seminars and conferences around interaction design, covering
products, software and online interfaces, mobile devices, environments
and services. UK/US-focused"

Events listed in the group are 'content' focused. We don't list social
or business networking events, as these are too common and would
obscure the more significant events. Neither do we list events around
software development, business management, or software launches.

[IxDA Discuss] IxDA London meet-up, more meetings - and money!

2008-03-04 Thread Alexander Livingstone
Hi all,

Last night was a very interesting meeting! It was fantastic to meet
such a wide variety of people and work - education, entertainment,
consultancy, information, engineering (that's me and my boats!) - and
I'm really looking forward to the forum that will be opened inside the
group.

As for decisions about future groups:

We have some sponsorship! My company has kindly agreed to pay for food
/ drink for meetings - I need to sort out the details a bit more, but
you should all be regularly getting a good feed, at the very least.

IxDA London will be meeting on the first Monday and third Thursday of
each month (with the exception of the first meeting - which will be on
the 27th of March). The first one or two meetings will be mixers - a
relax after work, chatting & getting to know each other, our work and
what our challenges are, etc. It will also be a chance to get to know
a bit more about what everyone is after and what people would enjoy
from the group.

We also spoke about notification of IxD related events such as this
evening's 'This happened...'. Everyone is going to take responsibility
for tagging these events with 'ixdalondon' on sites such as
upcoming.org.

I'm going to organise a venue for the next meeting and will keep
everyone in the loop.

All the best!

Alex.
