Yahoo is looking for an experienced, innovative, and technically
strong Sr. Design Prototyper to help bring next-generation experiences
to the Yahoo Search audience. As the projects will be varied and cutting
edge, the ideal candidate must be a strong technologist, up-to-date on
the latest web UI technologies, and a passion for developing
user-delighting experiences. You will be part of a high-energy, fast
paced team. 
* Participate in concept development and design ideation 
* Develop high-fidelity functional design prototypes to
demonstrate proof of concepts and for buy-in demonstrations 
* Collaborate with designers and researchers to refine the user
experience 
* Partner with engineering to ensure that interactive techniques
and technologies translate through to shipping products and services 

Required Skills  Experience: 
* BS/MS in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience

* 5+ years of professional Web development experience 
* Good knowledge of object oriented design and design patterns 
* Expert knowledge of DHTML, JavaScript, CSS and Ajax. 
* Strong knowledge of XHTML, XML, and PHP. 
* Knowledge of Ruby, Ruby on Rails, Macromedia Flash/Flex,
ActionScript 2.0 is a bonus 
* Experience building and operating highly efficient, dynamic,
data driven, scalable browser based user interfaces and web applications

* Strong knowledge and keen interest in emerging tools and
technologies in the industry 
* Innovator - able to build prototypes and come up with ideas
given a current set of technology. 
* Fast learner - can quickly come up to speed with different
technologies and develop prototypes as needed 
* Flexibility. Able to work in a dynamic environment 
* Strong verbal and written communication skills 
* Excellent teamwork skills 
* Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

How Big Can You Think?

Design the future of how millions of people consume the world's news
everyday. As an Interaction Designer on Yahoo! News, you'll collaborate
with product  marketing managers, engineers, visual designers and user
experience researchers to develop new product offerings and improve
existing ones.

Your primary responsibilities include:
- Ability to quickly understand the constraints of a design problem and
identify the tradeoffs; the ability to communicate those tradeoffs to
fellow decision makers
- Strong empathic skills: you should be able to understand how and why
an interface succeeds or fails and spot problems in layout,
architecture, flow, copy or presentation before they go into production
- Setting product direction and UI requirements based on business, user
and brand needs
- Translating usability and field research findings into design
improvements;
- Collaborating with other Yahoo! product teams to develop cross-product
standards both inside of News and across the Yahoo! network
Screen and user flow design communicated in a way that works for all the
parties involved (engineers, product managers, partners,etc.)
- Strong visual design skills and a fanatical attention to detail down
to the pixel
- Push the boundaries of what's possible on the web to create better
experiences for users

Desired experience:
- Academic background in human factors/ergonomics, cognitive science,
psychology or HCI; and
- Experience as a key member of a UI team through the product
development cycle of several successfully launched web, mobile and/or
software applications (as opposed to layout and decorative design).
