Re: [IxDA Discuss] Selling Interaction 10 to Management

2010-01-12 Thread Sean Gerety
I wrote a blog post on selling conferences to management. I hope it helps.
BTW, I used this method for a conference last year.

Howdy folks... looks like there's a potential light at the end of the

order to do that I kind of have to provide a written sales pitch to my
management. Yuck. Anyone have anything templatized that I could borrow?

 TIA,

2009-12-05 Thread j. eric townsend
FWIW, I'm paying for it out of my own pocket and taking vacation days to
go. When I get back I'll do a presentation on what I learned and hope
it impresses them enough to pay for next year's trip.

Thanks everyone for their comments. I'm actually surprised there hasn't
been more discussion around this topic, but maybe that's because of the

Re: [IxDA Discuss] Selling Interaction 10 to Management

2009-11-30 Thread David Shaw
Thanks Nasir. Good call, I guess that would be important. At least for me,
I'm in-house at a medical consumer device/services group. Our UX group is
finally getting credibility in what we do, and are pretty integrated across
the teams. Here's an initial stab at something. I've tried to provide some
introductory context because there are still things people don't get about
IxD in our group. Feel free to add/edit/revise/steal. ;-)

*I**nteraction10 is the conference hosted by the Interaction Design
Association (IxDA). This is the third professional conference put on by the
organization (this role/occupation is fairly new in it’s definition). As a
side note, I’ve actually been involved in this community since it was just
an email list of folks []. We would share similar work methods,
problems, and mentor each other. The org has matured significantly to now
represent IxD as a professional group in various capacities. I’d really
like to continue this involvement.

By going, it will keep both myself, and [MY COMPANY], in the spotlight as a
leader in this space. It will also increase my connections to like-minded
folks. I can’t tell you the number of times I have received and/or shared
tips online. Many of these have actually contributed to my daily work.
Looking at the program, here are just a few of the (many) sessions I think
would be applicable and enhance my day to day work...*

TIA,
David

Can you tell us more about what kind of work you do? Maybe we cam

For example, if you're at a creative shop, you might focus on the
inspiration and future-oriented topics, whereas if you were internal at a
technology company, you'd talk about practical stuff you could start using
 the Monday I get back.

Tell us your context and you might get more responses from similar peeps
