RE: [Geodata] Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] Promoting freely available geodata

2007-04-08 Thread Adair, Mike
More from the Canadian perspective - the GeoConnections program policy group
has produced a Best Practices Guide for licensing of geospatial data which
might help to inform the debate:
http://www.geoconnections.org/publications/Best_practices_guide/Guide_to_Best_Practices_v12_finale_e.pdf

It provides a good overview of the background issues and proposes 3 types of
licences to standardize on: unrestricted-use with licence acknowledgement
(click-through), an end-user licence and a distributor licence.

Given the interest, maybe the 'OSGeo people' who are already
involved could organize a BOF session, and also do some
presentations. If there are 'local' resources such as
 Canadian municipal/provincial/federal managers(or perhaps
even better, people from their legal departments) who could
attend, then perhaps they could also participate in the
BOF/presentations. Also, maybe there are lawyers who are
local(e.g. Victoria or BC) any who have some interest or
expertise who could attend - even if their perspective is
based on Canadian law, it might still help illuminate the discussions.

Tyler, We've just finished a research paper that reviews the OGC Web
Processing Service protocol and provides some suggested improvements and an
example implementation. Is the OSGeo Journal ready for this type of entry?

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] OSGeo Journal articles and preparation

2007-04-08 Thread Helton Uchoa

Hi Tyler,

I will include an article about projects or cases from Brazil in the volume
2.

My sugestion is call the OSGeo local chapter to translate the Journal to
many languages. I can work with Brazilian OSGeo Chapter to translate to
portuguese (BR).

In this month, a new version of GeoLivre.org.br portal (the brazilian
community of open source GIS - over than 700 users) will be finished and
will include many informations about OSGeo. This new version was developed
under Drupal. My idea is to use the GeoLivre as a portuguese language
chanal to OSGeo news.

[OSGeo-Discuss] RE: [Viscom-dev] FW: Conference Proposal Notification

2007-04-08 Thread Nathalie Mainland
Well, as part of the sponsorship I got for Autodesk, we get a 45 minute
speaking opportunity in the Products and Services Track. I could donate
this time to OSGeo and you could present the topic below or refine
further. Would this be of interest?

H... looks like my proposal for an OSGeo session at OSCON did not go
over well. Anyone have a suggestion as to how to re-approach them to
try and convince the powers that be that we should be there. Last year
was a great success... maybe it was my proposal they did not like ;-(

Any thoughts are welcome...

Dear Aaron,

On behalf of the O'Reilly Open Source Convention 2007
program committee, I want to thank you for your recent proposal:

OSGeo: Practical Maps, Practical Apps

Thank you for your interest in sharing your work with the open source
community. While your proposal was considered closely, we are not able
to include it in the program this year.

In most cases proposals are declined because the topic of the talk or
tutorial was already covered in another presentation, or the subject
matter
was too narrow or vendor specific. This year we again had far too many
great talks to fit into the number of slots available.

We encourage you to submit a proposal for next year's conference,
and we thank you again for taking the time to submit your proposal.

We would like to offer you a 25% discount off the registration
fee if you simply want to attend. Just register as an Attendee
and use this code in the discount code field:
os07dsd

There are still opportunities to sponsor or exhibit at the event.
For sponsor/exhibitor possibilities, please contact Yvonne Romaine,
Sales and Exhibits Manager, [EMAIL PROTECTED]

We hope to see you there!

Regards,
