[OSGeo-Discuss] OSM2NetworkDataset Version 1.1 available
Dear List, The Geoprocessing Community announces a new release of OSM2NetworkDataset! Version 1.1 now supports ArcGIS 10.0, as well as ArcGIS 9.3.1. New features include restrictions for tracktype, smoothness, surface, and maxwidth. The Java application OSM2NetworkDataset converts OpenStreetMap (OSM) data so it can be used for network analyses in the ArcGIS extension Network Analyst. It is designed to generate transportation networks for any mode of transportation and any region. The generated networks are based on OSM attributes, such as restrictions, one-way roads, turn restrictions, point barriers, and maximum speed. The path can be chosen according to the shortest distance or the shortest time with user defined average speed settings. download OSM2NetworkDataset 1.1 for ArcGIS: http://52north.org/downloads/geoprocessing/osm2nds http://52north.org/downloads/geoprocessing/osm2nds more information about the OSM2NetworkDataset here: http://52north.org/communities/geoprocessing/osm2nds/index.html The Geoprocessing Community has recently set up a new OSM2NetworkDataset public http://list.52north.org/mailman/listinfo/Osm2nds mailing list (http://list.52north.org/mailman/listinfo/Osm2nds) and a forum (http://osm2nds.forum.52north.org/) . [OSGeo-Discuss] Charter Membership Nomination: Suchith Anand
Dear All, I would like to nominate Suchith Anand as an OSGeo Charter Member. His tireless enthusiasm in promoting OSGeo in the UK has been immensely beneficial to the UK chapter. His work to promote open source geospatial software use in education (see http://elogeo.nottingham.ac.uk/) is of great importance and benefit to OSGeo globally. Furthermore, his work securing an MOU between OSGeo and the Centre for Geospatial Sciences at the University of Nottingham, and more recently with the International Cartographic Association should be recognised. Suchith is exactly the sort of pro-active, enthusiastic person that we need in OSGeo! PRESS ANNOUNCEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE For information about this announcement, contact: Contact: Steven Ramage Executive Director, Marketing and Communications Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) http://www.opengeospatial.org/contact --- *** Win an Apple iPad 2 Tablet, an Apple iPod touch or Bose AE2 headphones! *** The survey is a joint effort by two academic researchers who are OGC members and by the OGC Business Value Committee. Dr. Mu Xia at Santa Clara University and Dr. Kexin Zhao at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte developed the survey based on requirements from the OGC Business Value Committee to support their studies on standards effectiveness. The OGC Business Value Committee will use a summary of the results to help the OGC better understand the value of the OGC's open standards and improve its programs for geospatial standards development, compliance testing and outreach. We encourage everyone involved with geospatial or location data, software and services to complete the survey. This is an opportunity for technical and commercial colleagues to work together and highlight their business needs and requirements around open standards. OGC membership is not a requirement, and you can participate even if the software you use or provide does not implement OGC standards. The survey takes about 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Individual responses will be seen only by the researchers and OGC staff. The researchers will summarize the data gathered from the survey, removing all references to individual responses, and make the summary available to OGC Business Value Committee members. An executive summary will be provided to survey respondents. The researchers have prepared two versions of the online survey. To take the survey, if you are a technology user, visit http://uncc.surveyshare.com/s/AQAIJDC. If you are a technology provider (a vendor or a system integrator) or a consultant, visit http://uncc.surveyshare.com/s/AQAIZBC. If you are not sure which version to use, contact us. Please also forward this message to others who might be interested in completing the survey. The survey period is 1st November through 18th December 2011. Prizes will be awarded at random to three individuals who complete the survey. The first person whose name is drawn after the survey has closed will receive an iPad 2 (16GB, WiFi), the second will receive an iPod Touch (8GB, 4th Generation) and the third will receive a set of Bose AE2 headphones. Thanks for your support! Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] Charter Membership Nomination: Suchith Anand
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi, just to make sure: Anybody is entitled to nominate, second and support the nomination of OSGeo Charter Members. You do not have to be in any way officially entitled by OSGeo to nominate folks. Plus I want to stress that we need nominations from all around the globe because OSGeo aims at being the *global* voice for Open Source Geospatial and therefore must also have global representation in it's charter membership. Right now this is still heavily biased to the north-western quartisphere (or whatever half a hemisphere might be called). OSGeo Community, This is a reminder that the nomination period is open for the 2011 charter member election. All the details at http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Election_2011#Charter_Member_Election A few notes and points worth mention: 1- Please forward this announcement to all local chapter lists, and consider nominating active members of your local chapter / community. [OSGeo-Discuss] Translation to Indian languages Feed back please
Indian scene: European: English to Spanish etc are meant for using GIS itself by the learned user. Indictranslation: Most Indians who use GIS use it in English. The Indic translation is for making the semi-english-literate to actually use FOSS4G tools for villages, for local administration etc. So the english word is just changed to indian language, such that user can read english in his own script. FOSS4G tools are all front-end translatable, with ease or with a pinch of salt. All those who have tried/succeeded in Indic translation may pl give their experience. To Grade software-usability easy translation is one of the parameters. Translating properties files. Online: this needs a good internet connection (and also a feeling that you may mess it up) Offline: You do it at leisure, using openoffice/googletransliterate etc Translation with coding: I wonder, how many FOSS4G tools still have stayed here..?? Where after translation the code needs re-compilation, or work that a programmer only can do.
