Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] new UN committee - call for members

2015-11-02 Thread Jeff McKenna

Hi Ela, Jeroen, Venka, everyone,

Thanks for signing up on the wiki. We now have a new mailing list for
our discussions: subscribe at https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/un

I think we should aim to have our first (IRC) meeting by the end of this
month, to start planning this collaboration.

Hi everyone,

At the last OSGeo board meeting we agreed to form a new committee,
focused on the UN/United Nations. I have drafted an initial wiki page
for the committee, that gives some background. Please, if you are
interested in helping promote Open Source geospatial at the UN with its
members states, definitely add your name to the wiki page. We will
likely organize the first committee meeting sometime in November. Thanks!

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] [Live-demo] Upcoming 2016 FOSS4G events?

2015-11-02 Thread Basques, Bob (CI-StPaul)
Hi Cameron,

How would something like this relate to those events not OSGeo specific, but
are being attended with the intent to promote OSGeo. We’ve got some local GIS
focused events that we’ll be attending and handing out OSGeo-Live USBs at.

Thanks

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] new UN committee - call for members

2015-11-02 Thread Jody Garnett
Thanks for getting that set up Jeff.

To reiterate how we get things done, we are setting up committees for long
standing activities (such as interacting with the the UN). Committees will
do their thing and send a status update to the board (and discussion
list?). We ask that committees have a contact point on the wiki
 - can this UN committee sort that out
as a first order business?

We will also spin up short term working groups
 to perform a
specific activity and then finish (such as with this years sponsorship
drive).

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] [Live-demo] Upcoming 2016 FOSS4G events?

2015-11-02 Thread Cameron Shorter

Hi Bob,
I'm open to suggestions on what is the minimum criteria for OSGeo-Live
to promote an event.

I think it would be based on "Find out about OSGeo and OSGeo-Live at
these events: ..."

So I'd suggest that we'd expect to see at least an OSGeo-Live
presentation or an OSGeo booth.
Better would to see workshops which use OSGeo-Live, and OSGeo-Live USBs
being handed out.

Warm regards, Cameron

We are also considering listing upcoming OSGeo-Live related events on our web

Could anyone thinking about setting up an event in 2016 with an OSGeo focus
please speak up.

Warm regards, Cameron
