[OSGeo-Discuss] pgRouting v2.4.0

2017-03-20 Thread Vicky Vergara
Hello all,

Finally the pgRouting release 2.4.0 is ready for packaging
https://github.com/pgRouting/pgrouting/releases/tag/v2.4.0

The pgRouting team thanks all the tests done for this release by the
community, and I thank in advance all the people that make pgRouting
available in the different operating systems.

I must say that in order of not adding more requisites on the cmake, the
documentation that its generated with the: make doc has the "old" looks.

I am leaving the documentation site with the new "look" because of the the
navigation bar:
- Easier to Navigate
- Easier to see flaws in the structure of the documentation
  - I'll be working on improving the documentation

Tomorrow I will be preparing develop branch to be for 2.5.0-dev

Changes for 2.4.0

[OSGeo-Discuss] GeoForAll at FOSS4G 2017 - abstracts deadline March 21

2017-03-20 Thread Helena Mitasova
Dear geoforall community,

As you probably know the deadline for submitting abstracts to the Global FOSS4G
2017, Boston
 is tomorrow March 21 !

http://2017.foss4g.org/call-for-presentations/

I am planning to submit an abstract on "State of GeoForAll in 2017" but
please let me know if you have already submitted an abstract on GeoForAll in
general or some specific
initiative so that we can coordinate.

I have updated the wiki set up by Charlie - please add your workshop or
abstract info
so that we can work with the LOC to have GeoForAll represented in an effective
and visible way,
your association with geoforall may not be always visible in your submission.
Here is the wiki:

https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/GeoForAll/FOSS4GBoston

This is a great opportunity to get together, share our work and plan for the
future, so I have also added
a section for meetings if you would like to discuss collaborations and
initiatives such as
Smart cities https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Opencitysmart,
Citizen science
https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Geocrowdsourcing_CitizenScience_FOSS4G,
and Suchith or others can probably add many more.

Thank you, Helena

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] [Aust-NZ] OSGeo breakfast at Digital Earth Symposium in Sydney, Australia

2017-03-20 Thread Adam Steer
Hiya folks

I’ll be there with my NCI hat on, checking out the landscape and learning
stuff. And Thursday 6 April is my birthday :) Breakfast sounds like a good
start!

Any Sydney locals on the list keen to propose a venue? if not I’m happy to
consult my bro - who knows where to get a good breakfast (and lives in Sydney).

Cheers

Adam

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] Wiki: InfrastructurePreferencesStatusQuo - call for update

2017-03-20 Thread Jeff McKenna
Actually Maxi and I did a recent thorough research into OSGeo project
use of infrastructure, by each project, and it was published as a paper
(or soon to be). In the short term I know Maxi has submitted it as a
talk for FOSS4G-Europe. It's good to take a step back and review old
processes. Actually we hope that that was a start of a regular OSGeo
project 'health checkup', which obviously is very needed. For example,
it was quite shocking how many current OSGeo projects are functioning
without any regular Project Steering Committee meetings, or even a
visible Project Steering Committee. I am sure Maxi will be sharing
those results at FOSS4G-E.

[OSGeo-Discuss] Is Geographic Information Science Proprietary?

2017-03-20 Thread Suchith Anand
Dear colleagues,

It has come to my attention that some proprietary GIS vendors are doing big
marketing of thier proprietary products as the Science! Science is not any
specific GIS proprietary tools!

GeoForAll is a global community of scientists, academics and teachers who are
all working for expanding Open Principles in Science and Education. Our aim
is to empower all academics and students worldwide. Openness is fundamental in
harnessing the true potential of Geospatial Science and expanding digital
economy opportunities for all . Open innovation is key in driving Digital
Economy opportunities and we are determined to make sure that everyone benefits.

Why are Open Principles important in science and education ? Please see the

For anyone opposing Open Principles in Education , i humbly request them to
please consider supporting Open Principles in Education as education and
empowerment are key for getting rid of extreme poverty and help create digital
economy opportunities also for billions of our economically poor brothers and
sisters across our planet . Access to quality education opportunities is
everyone's birthright. So do join us and let us all work together to enable
