[OSGeo-Discuss] RDA grants for new RDA Early Career Researchers and Experts

2019-02-04 Thread Suchith Anand

This might be of interest.

Last few hours to apply for the RDA grants for new RDA Early Career Researchers
and Experts to the 13th RDA Plenary meeting to be held in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, USA 2-4 April 2019.

The purpose of the grants is to encourage and support participation of
individuals who have a strong interest in RDA, and are drivers or adopters of
one or more of the RDA outputs to enable data sharing by or from their project
or organisation.

In this second wave, RDA Europe offers up to five grants for experts and seven
for Early career researchers working with data to share ideas, experiences and
practical advice, while learning what leading data scientists and practitioners
are currently working on. This programme has offered grant winners the
opportunity to engage directly with and support the work of RDA Working and
Interest Groups, to learn and contribute, and become a part of the RDA global
data sharing community.

Application period for both Calls closes at 5th February 2019, 17:00 CET. To
find out more and apply visit

[OSGeo-Discuss] The 4th gvSIG Festival (the online GIS conference) is coming

2019-02-04 Thread Mario Carrera

Hi all,

for the fourth year running we launch the gvSIG Festival, the online
conference in which anyone in the world with an Internet connection can
attend or participate as a speaker. The event will be held in March 27th
and 28th 2019.

This year we want to make a special appeal to the group of women who are
part of the gvSIG Community. We would like that a large percentage of
the presentations of this 4th Festival are given by you, so we encourage
you to present your proposals.

In the gvSIG project we have always wanted to work and contribute our
bit in the fight against gender discrimination. In internal debates we
have always taken into account that within a movement such as open
source software, and the values associated to it, the obvious absence of
women should be worrying. And maybe it’s the biggest problem. That
should be worrying and it is not.

The sector of open source geomatics, and gvSIG, do not escape these
dynamics either. Even significant progress, there’s an obvious absence
of women in our collective. And the worst thing, we not only find that
there are only a few initiatives that allow to create spaces to favour
their integration, but it seems that it is not necessary.

And even if it’s only a little that we can contribute, we would like to
start working on this small step to help to reverse this situation.

gvSIG festivals are open to any presentation related to the project,
from anywhere in the world and in any language. From now on, we start
the path to the next ‘4th gvSIG Festival’.

The information about the proposals submission can be found on the event
website: http://www.gvsig.com/festival

We look forward to your participation!

[OSGeo-Discuss] 2nd Reminder - Call for ideas and mentors GSoC 2019

2019-02-04 Thread Carolina Arias Muñoz
Dear OSGeo community,

The organization application for GSoC ends on February 6.[1]

There are only a few hours left for your project to prepare an ideas list
for interested students and to fill up the mentors list.

If you want to act as a mentor [2], fill in this form:
https://goo.gl/forms/njL27YLWBVensZ3m1

Each project on the ideas list [3] should include:

a) project title/description.
b) more detailed description of the project (2-5 sentences).
c) expected outcomes.
d) skills required/preferred.
e) two possible mentors.
f) if possible, an easy, medium or hard rating of each project.
g) a test for the students to submit to your evaluation. The test aims at
evaluating if the student is capable for the project, so please design it
having in mind the skills required to complete the project.
Please contact us admins to include your ideas page in [3].

Kind regards,

OSGeo GSoC admins
