[OSGeo-Discuss] Results of 2023 board elections
Hi folks, After much toil and trouble, the results for the 2023 board election are in. Adam Steer did not stand up for reelection, and thus exits the board. He is replaced by Jeroen Ticheler. The other four board members who stood up for reelection (Codrina, Vicky, Marco and Rajat) were reelected. Matthew and Besfort did not get enough votes to get a seat in the board. You can find the detailed results at https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/ Board_Election_2023_Results The full composition of the current board and the terms of each board member can be found at https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/ Board_of_Directors#OSGeo_Foundation_Board_of_Directors Best, -- Iván Sánchez Ortega https://ivan.sanchezortega.es signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part. ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.osgeo.org https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[OSGeo-Discuss] Campaign period for OSGeo board elections
Hi all, (This is a cross-post from https://discourse.osgeo.org/t/campaign-period-for-osgeo-board-elections/6448 - campaigning for board elections seems like a nice occasion to give discourse.osgeo.org a whirl.) The 2023 elections for new board members are finally coming soon. All nominees at Board Member Nominations 2023 - OSGeo have confirmed that they are up for election. There will be a (very) short campaigning period, where nominees are invited to write a manifesto at Election 2023 Candidate Manifestos - OSGeo and engage with other OSGeo charter members. This period will end on January 2nd. The actual elections will start on January 3rd, via limesurvey (the same platform used for charter member elections). [OSGeo-Discuss] 2023 nominations for *board* member elections
Dear OSGeo charter members, The end of the years looms ahead, which also means it's time to renew the OSGeo board, starting with nominations for new board members. Starting today, the CRO team will be recieving nominations. In order to nominate somebody, make sure they're OK with the nomination, then send an email to cro (at) osgeo.org with the following information: Nominating person: Nominating e-mail: Nominating profile page: Nominee name: Nominee e-mail: Nominee profile page: Nomination statement: Since the new board has to be set up by the end of the year, I'll be taking nominations until december 14th. [OSGeo-Discuss] Funding for GeoParquet implementations
Hi all, I want to call a bit of attention to this: the OGC has some available funding for GeoArrow/GeoParquet implementations. https://www.ogc.org/requests/funding-available-for-creating-geoparquet-developer-resources/ On the OSGeo side, GDAL/OGR offers an implementation of the format. However, this is a good opportunity (and/or a good excuse) to add support for this format in any tools you might be involved with. Doing some bug hunting in GDAL/OGR, or providing some interesting data for debugging and examples would also be appreciated. If there's any questions, I'm sure Joana Simoes (jsimoes at ogc.org) will be happy to answer them. [OSGeo-Discuss] 2023 nominations for new charter members
Dear OSGeo charter members, It's time for the 2023 OSGeo elections, starting with the nomination for new Charter Members. The nomination period for new Charter Members will start on September 15th (next friday) and lasts three weeks, ending on October 6th. The voting period for new Charter Members will be announced at a later date, but it should be by the end of October. The same goes for the nomination and voting periods for Board members, which will take place a bit later. **Nomination procedure for charter members** Nominations are made by existing charter members (i.e. a nominee cannot nominate themself). Both the nominating member and the nominee must have an OSGeo LDAP account and a user profile in www.osgeo.org (a user profile page looks like e.g. https:// www.osgeo.org/member/sanchez-ortega/ ). Visit https://www.osgeo.org/wp-login.php for both, and make sure that the information in your profile page is updated and correct, specially your e-mail address. If you don't have an OSGeo LDAP account, you'll need a "mantra" to create one. If this is the case, write an email to cro (at) osgeo.org to ask for a mantra, briefly mentioning your involvement/interest in OSGeo. To make a nomination, confirm with the nominee and then write an email to cro (at) osgeo.org including the information in the following template. Nominating person: Nominating e-mail: Nominating profile page: Nominee name: Nominee last name: Nominee e-mail: Nominee country: Nominee profile page: Nominee wiki page (optional): Nomination statement: This information and the nomination template can also be found at https:// wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Election_2023 . **Request for retirement** If you wish to retire from being a charter member, let us know by writing to cro (at) osgeo.org . **CROs** The elections are handled by the Chief Returning Officer, or CRO. This year's CRO team is composed by Iván Sánchez and Luis de Sousa. Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] EU Cyber Resilience Act - potential impacts on open geospatial software?
ice to the user*. There's RHEL, and there will be bullshitter auditors, and there will be (I guess) project forks just for EU CE mark. The later worries me, in terms of actually improving upstream. On other hand, the EU CRA doesn't apply to software in alpha (or beta, or gamma) status, or otherwise "for testing purposes only". I predict that some pieces of software will adopt a "all of our releases are for testing purposes only" policy, as another workaround. Seth G said: > If OSGeo can find a way to capture some of this value by ensuring compliancy and gathering funds from large organisations that use OSGeo projects, then this could be seen as an opportunity rather than an impending disaster. Well, then OSGeo might want to offer auditing services at better terms than the bulshitter auditors, and establish mechanisms to put a CE mark on OSGeo projects. Not that OSGeo can be a target of the EU CRA, though; as ar as I'm concerned it's a non-profit and therefore part of The Commons and not part of The Market. It would just proxy EU CRA responsibilities from commercial users. --- Jody Garnett said: > I am going to stop writing Yeah, me too. -- Iván Sánchez Ortega https://ivan.sanchezortega.es ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.osgeo.org https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Person C throws a tantrum and tells the media I'm sure B finds A's jokes insulting, thus A must resign from his job[1]. Then, person B jumps in and publicly states that she never felt offended by A's jokes at all[2]. I need to ask for **evidence-based policy** here. There is a big difference between a Dali painting *maybe* turning someone off FOSS4G and a Dali painting *actually* turning someone off FOSS4G. Furthermore, there is such a thing like too much political correctness. I will illustrate *ad absurdum* by turning my own political-correctness-o-meter up to eleven for a second: Sanghee should remove slide 15 because blood sausages are maybe potentially offensive to muslims and vegans. Sanghee should remove slide 17 because the kerning can maybe potentially make the eyes of experience typesetters bleed. Sanghee should remove slides 18 and 19 because they might be potential triggers for agoraphobics. Sanghee should remove slide 22 because it might be potentially insulting to astronomers concerned by light pollution. Sanghee should remove slide 23 because it might be potentially insulting to grammar nazis. I should remove the previous sentence because someone might potentially find nazis offensive. Sanghee should remove slide 25 because it might be potentially insulting to geodesists who know circles don't have a meaning outside of distance- preserving projections (incidentally, these are the same people offended by EPSG:3857 being used everywhere) and find that FOSS4G is not representative of the professionalism required to attend such an event. Sanghee should remove slide 30 because the alignment might be a potential trigger for people with obsessive-compulsive disorder.
