Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] sponsor benefits

2017-03-08 Thread Jody Garnett
Thanks for the clarification Marc; I did not want to volunteer the
marketing committee (small that we are) for more work. If you would like to
act as point you are welcome to it; let's sort it out next meeting.

(That said we will need to set up a schedule to make sure the booth covered
during the conference; preferably one that will let Anita attend a few
talks)

Jody et al,

I believe it is the Marketing Committee's task to arrange the OSGeo booth.
That is how we did it in Bonn; with the LOC we determine a representative
location on the conference floor including light And power And furniture. At
no cost ;-)
Booth is decorated And (wo)manned by the committee reps on the premises.

In order to honour the arrangements with sponsors new banners are printed (best
locally done).

Would be best If Guido And I have direct contact. More efficiënt.

Kind regards,

Visiting the http://foss4g-africa.org website I cannot see any way to
sponsor the event. Do you have any additional information on how much money
you are looking for and what sponsors can expect in return?

I apologize if I am somehow missing this detail from the website.

split up OSGeo funds with fund raising or funds from other partners so that
our money can stretch further).

2017-02-23 Thread Serena Coetzee
Dear Jody,

There will be an OSGeo-UN Hackathon on Saturday 1 July - it is a
'Postconference Codesprint / Hackfest / OSGeo-UN Hackathon’ to be hosted at the
JCSE (Johannesburg Centre for Software Engineering) see
https://foss4g-africa.org/en/programme/. I have CC’d Gavin Fleming who is
running with it, and can add more information.

Also, I’ll appreciate if you could add FOSS4G Africa 2017 to the list under
‘Event sponsorship’ at http://www.osgeo.org/sponsorship/opportunities
<http://www.osgeo.org/sponsorship/opportunities>. The conference website is at
http://foss4g-africa.org.

Simone (GeoSolutions)

Reaching out for sponsors is fine, by why approach the companies on this call,
each of which already support OSGeo (often directly contributing time).

Q: Where are the organizations those who profit from this?

Feedback on sponsoring local events, often they just want to accept money and
have no futher contact/engagement with sponsors. Example of sponsoring a local
(Italian?) event not considering a GeoServer talk as the project is already too
famous...

This is a difficult feedback to address as we do not directly control/influence
events put on by local chapters. I would kind of be content for these events to
be avoided by sponsors if they cannot be bothered to provide value.

Anthony (Boundless)

Asking OSGeo Sponsorship to look "beyond providing a logo on the website". Look
for more opportunities for visibility and promotion.

  * More press releases (not only the joint press release offered to gold /
platinum sponsors).
  *   Co-branding activities and announcements.

The UN OpenGIS initiative was used as an example; something that both OSGeo and
Boundless is supporting and can benefit from cross promotion.

  * Maria is our best contact here, we will need to reach out and explore
what can be done.
  * GeoServer is an example of a project that handles cross promotion.

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] sponsor benefits

2017-02-22 Thread Jody Garnett
So coming out of this meeting there are a bunch of good ideas - but we will
need volunteers to run them to ground.

I am going to clean up the web pages a bit:

- http://www.osgeo.org/sponsorship/opportunities (need to update this page
for 2017 based on http://www.osgeo.org/node/1755 blog post).

Guido are you happy to take on the "networking event" ideas for foss4g? It
sounds like you had a b2b event already being planned.

How to handle the OSGeo booth (at foss4g and other events) has been a bit
random. I do not know if I should start with the board or the marketing
committee.
