[OSGeo-Discuss] PostGIS 2.3.0rc1 Bundle package (includes pgRouting) binaries and installers for Windows users

2016-09-19 Thread Regina Obe
For those who'd like a chance to test out pgRouting 2.3.0rc1 and PostGIS
2.3.0rc1 before final release,
We've created installers and binary packages for PostgreSQL 9.6:

These are here and start with prefix - postgis-pg96-bundle

http://winnie.postgis.net/download/windows/pg96/buildbot/

Make sure to use the appropriate package for your PostgresQL (32/64-bit)
version.
While we don't have installers for 9.5 and 9.4 yet for PostGIS 2.3.0rc1
Bundle, you can find binary zip
In respective folders:

http://postgis.net/windows_downloads/

(these will start with postgis-pg(versionnum)-bundle-2.3.0rc1* (the w64 is
for 64bit PostgreSQL and the w32 is for 32-bit PostgreSQL).

The bundles contain the following goodies:

PostGIS 2.3.0rc1 (with SFCGAL 1.3.0, GDAL 2.1.1, GEOS 3.5.0, proj 4.9.1, all
PostGIS packaged extensions)
pgRouting 2.3.0-rc1
osm2pgrouting 2.1.0
ogrfdw 1.0.2 (with GDAL 2.1.1 support)
pointcloud 1.1.0dev

Let me know if you run into any issues with these.

Hello,

we're looking for help testing OSGeo-Live 11.0 beta1 and translating docs.

In particular, we need help:

1. Testing. Run Quickstarts and verify they work. Join us on
irc://freenode.net#osgeolive this weekend, 8 &
9 July 2017, for our testing sprint.

2. Check if any new features need to be added to Project Overviews [2]

3. Update review status in our spreadsheet [4]. (It really helps us know if an
application has been reviewed, and by who).

4. Translate docs that have been updated. (Note, our spreadsheet [4] lists a
number of retired projects which need updating in the overview.rst contents
page and metrics.rst page.) You find the documentation at [2]. Read how to get
the documentation fom github and how to make pull request [3].

OSGeo-Live is scheduled to be the default installation at FOSS4G 2017
workshops. We strongly urge all workshop leaders to test OSGeo-Live now and
provide feedback, while there is still time to tweak anything required for the
workshop.

* 3709, Allow signed distance for ST_Project (Darafei Praliaskouski)
* 524, Covers support for Polygon-on-polygon, line on line,
point on line for geography (Danny Götte)

**Enhancements**

* Support for PostgreSQL 10
* 3645, Avoid loading logically deleted records from shapefiles
* 3747, Add zip4 and address_alphanumeric as attributes
 to norm_addy tiger_geocoder type.

**Breaking Changes**

* Dropped support for PostgreSQL 9.2.
* 3810, GEOS 3.4.0 or above minimum required to compile
* Most aggregates now marked as parallel safe,
which means most aggs have to be dropped / recreated.
If you have views that utilize PostGIS aggs,
you'll need to drop before upgrade and recreate after upgrade

* B-Tree index operators < = > changed to provide better spatial locality on
sorting
and have expected behavior on GROUP BY. It now works on exact geometry
instead of bounding box.
If you have btree index for geometry or geography, you need to REINDEX it,
or review
if it was created by accident and needs to be replaced with GiST index.
If your code relies on old left-to-right box compare ordering,
update it to use << >> operators.

* `_ST_DumpPoints` removed, was no longer needed after PostGIS 2.1.0
when ST_DumpPoints got reimplemented in C.

Thanks,

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] [SAC] Flickr FOSS4G and OSGeo photo history deadline Feb 5th

2019-01-26 Thread Regina Obe
See my comments below

As covered on discuss a couple months ago, And covered in the board meeting on
Monday:

Our OSGeo, FOSS4G and FOSS4G-NA photos on flicker may be reduced on Feb 5th as
some photos are removed.

Since these photos were shared with our groups we do not really know which ones
will be removed. Photographers are asked to subscribe with a monthly fee (or
have a limit of 1000 photos).

It is not really possible for us as a group to do much, which is a shame for
the internet as Flickr has a wide range of CC images (since they did a good job
of explaining open licenses and making them easily to use.)

Q: Can we throw the images on OSGeo next cloud?

[Regina Obe] Yes – We have 16terabytes of space (of I think 8 TB is usable if
it's in a RAID config of some sort)

want me to create a folder for said purpose? I think it's possible to also
share subfolders within that and display as gallery.

Nextcloud I think uses imagemagick to create thumbs and resized versions
automatically. So I'd be interested in testing that out. Last I tried if I
thru a bunch of pictures in a folder on nextcloud, the pictures would show in
the gallery widget and start out as small and then get larger as you went
deeper.

It's also possible to attach like an FTP as a folder in nextcloud so we can
investigate that too.

Q: Should we only copy the CC images? Or should we copy everything and try and
reach authors before sharing?

[Regina Obe] Is it easy to separate the sets out? I haven't used flickr so
don't know. I would think if they are in OSGeo shared gallery regardless of if
authors mark them as CC, we could copy to another folder and have the authors
sort them out. It's better than losing them.

Aside: Many participants missed the CC license step - which is too bad as it is
a good “first time” experience at contributing open content.

Q: Anyone know of an API we could use to grab our images?[Regina Obe] Have we
checked if we can use Flickr's API or are their limits? I've seen some scripts
around that pull images using flickr's api

Thanks,

Regina

[OSGeo-Discuss] PostGIS 3.0.0alpha1 released

2019-05-26 Thread Regina Obe
The PostGIS development team is pleased to release PostGIS 3.0.0alpha1.

This release works with PostgreSQL 9.5-12beta1 and GEOS >= 3.6

Best served with PostgreSQL 12beta1.

Details at: https://postgis.net/2019/05/26/postgis-3.0.0alpha1/

Source: https://download.osgeo.org/postgis/source/postgis-3.0.0alpha1.tar.gz

Docs PDF: https://download.osgeo.org/postgis/docs/postgis-3.0.0alpha1.pdf

Docs HTML:
https://download.osgeo.org/postgis/docs/doc-html-3.0.0alpha1.tar.gz

NEWS: https://git.osgeo.org/gitea/postgis/postgis/raw/tag/3.0.0alpha1/NEWS

Aside from the added functions and enhancements detailed in the news

The major changes that make PostGIS 3.0 different from prior versions

1) The raster support has been broken out into its own extension so
from PostGIS 3 and moving forward to get raster support you need to install
the raster extension as follows:

CREATE EXTENSION postgis;

CREATE EXTENSION postgis_raster;

This was to satisfy non-raster users wanting fewer functions in their
postgis install and also to allow those folks

who can't build with GDAL support to still be able to use PostgreSQL
extension plumbing for installing postgis

2) The Lib minor has been removed by default from the lib file.

This was done to ease future pg_upgrade.

So from now for each PostGIS 3 minor that follows

e.g. 3.1, 3.2 etc

the lib files will remain the same with extension -3 instead of -3.1, -3.2
and so forth.

Any removals of functions we do from now on will be stubbed with an error so
that pg_upgrade can be done smoothly from prior PostgreSQL installs.

3) This one is specifically designed for PostgreSQL 12 - PostgreSQL 12
is the first version to no longer rely on SQL inlining.

For more than 10 years - PostGIS has been relying on what is called - SQL
inlining - which allows us to define the function ST_Intersects and many
others as a combination of && and _ST_Intersects because && was the only
piece that could use the index and the planner would peak into the function
and break them apart into separate steps.

This has prevented us from properly costing our functions because if they
are costed right, then inlining breaks and the index never kicks in.

It also would just for whatever reason on occasion when the planner decided
not to inline the function, result in very slow queries.

People have complained on the list on occasion of cases where the index did
not kick in as a result.

PostgreSQL 12 introduced support functions in operator definition that
PostGIS 3 uses for ST_Intersects and family so that the function can
natively use the index without any inlining tricks. This means we can now
start properly costing things and also result in better plans since the
planner won't accidentally not use an index because it decided not to
inline.

4) For those running Proj6+ PostGIS 3.0 is first version to leverage
Proj6 features - refer to -
http://blog.cleverelephant.ca/2019/02/proj4-postgis.html

5) postgis.backend GUC has been removed. The main reason for its
existence was to allow same named SFCGAL functions to take over the
behavior.

The 3D functions in postgis like ST_3DIntersects that couldn't support TINS
or solid 3D geometries have been augmented to support these so no longer
need SFCGAL to achieve the same functionality and same named functions were
from from postgis_sfcgal extension.

Please test in particular the above features (more itemized in the NEWs) and
report back if anything does not behave as you would expect.

Happy spatial querying,

PostGIS Development Team

[OSGeo-Discuss] PostGIS 3.0.0 alpha2 released

2019-06-01 Thread Regina Obe
The PostGIS development team is pleased to release PostGIS 3.0.0alpha2.

This release works with PostgreSQL 9.5-12beta1 and GEOS >= 3.6

Best served with PostgreSQL 12beta1.

Details at: https://postgis.net/2019/06/02/postgis-3.0.0alpha2/

Docs HTML:
https://download.osgeo.org/postgis/docs/doc-html-3.0.0alpha2.tar.gz

NEWS: https://git.osgeo.org/gitea/postgis/postgis/raw/tag/3.0.0alpha2/NEWS

Key changes since the 3.0.0alpha2 are as follows:

#4044: Fix selectivity issue with support functions. (Paul Ramsey)
This resulted in significant improvement in leveraging parallelism for
PostgreSQL 12
NOTE: You need to be running PostgreSQL 12beta1 to take advantage of this.

#4311: Make wagyu the default option to validate polygons.
This option requires a C++11 compiler and will use CXXFLAGS (not CFLAGS).
It is only enabled if built with MVT support (protobuf) and should speed up
mvt tile generation
Add --without-wagyu to disable this option and keep the behavior from 2.5
(Raúl Marín)

4198, Add ST_ConstrainedDelaunayTriangles SFCGAL function (Darafei
Praliaskouski)
Note you need to do: CREATE EXTENSION postgis_sfcgal;
To have the new function available.

Please test and report back with any issues.

Thank you,

[OSGeo-Discuss] Adhoc has been moved

2019-05-11 Thread Regina Obe
FYI adhoc.osgeo.osuosl.org has been moved (I also added an adhoc.osgeo.org
so it's more controllable by us, but kept the osuosl.org for backward
compatibility)
If you had stuff running on it:

https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/AdhocVM

Please confirm your stuff is still working and if not, send me an email. If
I have not talked to you, your stuff is probably broken.
Send me an email to confirm you are still using it and I can resuscitate it.

If you need to get into the new one, you have one of two options:

Option 1 - the preferred is to go thru download.osgeo.org (note this only
works if you installed your ssh key in download.osgeo.org before I shut off
password access).

You can do something like:

add this to your ~/.ssh/config

Host old-adhoc.lxd
 User your_ldap_name
 ProxyJump your_ldap_n...@download.osgeo.org

Option 2 - which I'd like to get rid of in the near future is to use port
50024

ssh your_ldap_n...@adhoc.osgeo.org -p 50024

I'd like to get rid of option 2 to reduce our surface exposure.

Regina

[OSGeo-Discuss] Download server has moved and requires SSH key access to upload

2019-05-10 Thread Regina Obe
Just and FYI, I moved the download.osgeo.org, upload.osgeo.org to a new home
yesterday.
It is now on a debian 9, running nginx (instead of Apache)

And most importantly the thing that tripped up a lot of people is I have
blocked password access.

If you did not have your ssh public keys installed on the old server, it
means you will not be able to upload your project artifacts.

A couple of people have had issues with this of which I have resolved by
putting their public key in their home folders.

If you are having issues, please put in a SAC ticket.

FYI that www.osgeo.org <http://www.osgeo.org> has moved to our own servers and

The main change was disabling libavatar replace plugin which was causing a bulk

The PostGIS Development team is pleased to release PostGIS 3.0.0beta1.

More details here: https://postgis.net/2019/09/28/postgis-3.0.0beta1/

Source tar ball:
https://download.osgeo.org/postgis/source/postgis-3.0.0beta1.tar.gz

Note that PostGIS 3.0 takes advantage of

yesterday:
https://lists.osgeo.org/pipermail/geos-devel/2019-September/009267.html

2) Features and performance enhancements for PostgreSQL 12RC1 released
a couple of days ago - https://www.postgresql.org/developer/beta/

We encourage you to test with this family of products even if you are using
lower versions of these. We are most interested in any upgrade (including
pg_upgrade) issues people are facing going from a PostGIS 2.something to
PostGIS 3.0

Please report back with any issues at the PostGIS Users / PostGIS
development lists or in our bug tracker -

[OSGeo-Discuss] trac.osgeo.org, svn.osgeo.org, git.osgeo.org DNS moved to pointed to OSGeo7

2019-10-01 Thread Regina Obe
I have moved the DNS for trac.osgeo.org, svn.osgeo.org, git.osgeo.org to
OSGeo7.

Note that this just means the sites will be proxied thru NGINX but is still
pointing at tracsvn.osgeo.osuosl.org.

This first step is to make sure no unforeseen issues with proxying the
traffick and to have 0 DNS transition downtime when I do the final server
move next week.

I don't expect there to be any issues, but if you run into any - please
reply back to this email or report on our ticket tracker.

https://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo

Of course if you are having issues, you might not be able to get to our
ticket tracker.

Next weekend when I do the official server move, I expect there to be 1-2 hr
downtime as I need to shut off the services and transfer the VM.

I'll send a note when I start that and put a note on all the sites that they
are under maintenance.

Thanks,

Regina

[OSGeo-Discuss] old.www.osgeo.org has been moved to osgeo7

2019-10-30 Thread Regina Obe
The web.osuosl.osgeo.org VM on osgeo3 I think the last thing I had running
on it was the old.www.osgeo.org and some of the rewrites.

I haven't moved over all the rewrites, but I feel a lot of them might be
obsolete.

I've shut down the apache on the old VM to see what breaks and will keep it
like that for a while and then shut it off for good.

If you run into any issues with things not working please let me know either
by responding to this email or a trac ticket.

[OSGeo-Discuss] OSUOSL mirror link on download page

2019-11-29 Thread Regina Obe
We never got around to load balancing our download.osgeo.org with the osuosl
ftp one.

Part of me is thinking maybe it's not worth it to do so especially since the
osuosl one is not real time - could lag by hours.

So instead, I just put the link to their mirror on our download page.

https://download.osgeo.org/ in cases where we may need extra bandwidth e.g.
QGIS downloads.

the other benefit to theirs is it does support the ftp protocol in addition
to http.

Let me know if anyone has issues with this change.

Thanks,

Regina

[OSGeo-Discuss] webextra.osgeo.osuosl.org is now old-webextra on osgeo7

2019-12-08 Thread Regina Obe
I created a replica of webextra.osgeo.osuosl.org and moved a ton of sites
from it to osgeo7.

I have shutoff the webservice on webextra.osgeo.osuosl.org. I plan to
shutoff the server completely this coming week to see if anything breaks.

This I think is the VM on osgeo3 to go, so once a grace period of week after
shut-off is done, I plan to have it reformatted so it can be used for
production containers

For those who used this server, can you verify you can connect to the new
home on osgeo7

Using instructions here:

https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/SAC_Service_Status#osgeo_7

So the login would be

ssh your_ldap_user_name@osgeo7-old-webextra

Key notable things that were on that server that I moved

1) live.osgeo.org - I'm not sure how this is updated, so whoever is n
charge of this should verify they can update using new setup

2) planet.osgeo.org

3) Various foss4g archives including video.foss4g.org

4) Munin (not resetup but plan to setup a new container for it)

5) journal.osgeo.org (Not sure what this is tempted to just kill it)

Regina

[OSGeo-Discuss] OSGeo 7 host updates

2020-03-20 Thread Regina Obe
I'm going to be installing some updates on OSGeo 7 server and will require a
reboot of the host.

I don't expect more than 30 minutes - 1 hr downtime.
I'll notify once things are back to normal.

Services that will be impacted are listed on this page:
https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/SAC_Service_Status#osgeo_7

Given that wiki will be affected, I will repeat the most critical ones
ldap.osgeo.org (which pretty much affects everything)
osgeo.org, www.osgeo.org
download.osgeo.org, bottles.download.osgeo.org
trac.osgeo.org, git.osgeo.org, wiki.osgeo.org

and admins can edit them. So it's just the navigation that is a bit screwy.
I usually just favorite the ones I like and then they show on my home page.

You want to volunteer to help me figure out the UI stuff. I'm more focused
on making sure we are collecting the metrics we need and there are a ton
more we can be collecting that would probably be useful.

In the ldap config there is also a way to segregate people based on LDAP
group and then do a finer grain control of the dashboards viewed.

The Prometheus queries are all written in some special time series focused
language https://prometheus.io/docs/prometheus/latest/querying/examples/

I don't have time to learn all that so I've just been installing dashboards
from Grafana for Prometheus that look useful and that query the metrics we
are currently collecting. https://grafana.com/grafana/dashboards We can
study some of the queries and merge together the ones we like into a single
dashboard I think will satisfy your need for an all-encompassing dashboard.
If you look under the hood of the json of the dashboards you'll see the data
sources specified (corresponding to each of the Prometheus servers) and the
job node etc.

Regina

[OSGeo-Discuss] Wiki upgrade happening Friday

2020-05-21 Thread Regina Obe
I'm planning to do the old-wiki -> new wiki (Debian 10 latest Media Wiki
install and MariaDb) this Friday.
Sometime late night US ET time.

Let me know if this poses a problem for you.

The domain once complete will still be https://wiki.osgeo.org

But I will take it down during the migration.

I don't expect more than 2 hrs downtime. Hopefully only one hour.

Thanks,
Regina

[OSGeo-Discuss] Status report for April - System Contract I 2020

2020-05-02 Thread Regina Obe
Below is list of things I've been involed with in April revolving around
core infrastructure

1) Rebuilding Wiki. I built a new debian 10 container with latest
Wikimedia, PHP, apache installed -- but still exploring the db and stuff to
create a script to chuck bad user accounts.
I also need to retest the data restore script I have setup and revisit some
plugins that did not come thru (no upgrade path for them).

https://wiki.new.osgeo.org (this is running on OSGeo3)

I'm hoping to do the final migration sometime late May.

Once this is done we can setup a dev of this new version to do the LDAP
integration. This we can contract out -- we have two proposals from outside
contractors for LDAP work.

The below services are new/updated ones that use OSGeo LDAP for
authentication

2) Server Monitoring -- To replace the old munin monitoring, I put in place
Prometheus / Grafana (https://prometheus.io/docs/visualization/grafana/ )
(this is so I can address recent complaints about speed etc and know when a
container needs more resources)

https://prometheus.io/ - Prometheus is a monitoring tool with already a lot
of what they call "Exporters" available for it, most of the exporters are
written in Go. Some are specifically geared for specific applications and
seems like perhaps not much effort to write our own if needed. Since Go is
statically compiled these work on old servers as well and can be installed
by just copying the binaries and setting up the service script.

Exporters run as services on each Container / VM. I haven't installed any
of these on osgeo6 or osgeo5, but have many installed on the new LXD
containers
Exporter service scripts I have committed to this repo -
https://git.osgeo.org/gitea/sac/prometheus-config (and have collected the
node exporter (for OS monitoring) and nginx exporter (for nginx monitoring)

The nginx monitoring is installed on all the nginx proxies (OSGeo7, OSGeo3,
OSGeo4) and download container

There are 3 prometheus servers (I have 3 instead of 1 to ease network
management since the Prometheus servers are all on the same private network
of the containers they pull metrics from they don't need any additional
whitelisting)
OSGeo7 - nginx (collects all the metrics from the OSGeo7 container
exporters)
OSGeo3 - monitor (also runs Grafana and collects all metrics from OSGeo3
containers)
OSGeo4 - osgeo4-nginx (collects metrics from OSGeo4 containers)

Grafana is running on OSGeo3 monitor container -> https://monitor.osgeo.org
(all OSGeo LDAP users can log in to see the metrics).
I whitelisted it on OSGeo7 and OSGeo4 so it can query the Prometheus servers
for monitor stats.

3) https://repo.osgeo.org -- Jody Garnett spear-headed this effort. The
Repo service is running Nexus repository management.
Feel free to login and check it out and if you want to use it in some way
for your projects -- Please put in a trac ticket -
https://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo/
Nexus supports the following kinds of repos - Maven, Docker Registry, Apt,
Yum, Nuget, R CPAN, RubyGems, npm (and some other stuff I've never heard of)

At the moment the following projects are using it (GeoTools, GeoServer,
GeoNetwork -- for their maven repo), (PostGIS / GEOS to manage docker
containers we use for drone bot regression testing)

4) https://matrix.osgeo.org -- container running Matrix (synapse server
https://matrix.org/docs/guides/installing-synapse ) bridges with our
existing IRC channels and can be used for private chat rooms like GSoc ones
for example
Requires an OSGeo LDAP account to use. Talk to Sandro Santilli if you have
questions about how to use it.

5) nextcloud.osgeo.org - upgraded to 18.03 (Hub) (from 15)
https://nextcloud.com/hub/ . There was some discussion about coediting
documents being slow from I think QGIS group. Our version is running
Collabora for (Libre Office / MS Office online document editing)
I am debating if we should switch to the Community server version which
uses OnlyOffice for document editing / collaboration (which I have
installed on experimental https://nextcloud.gallery.osgeo.org )
Waiting for feedback from QGIS PSC group to see if it's worthwhile to
switch. From a cursory play with both, the OnlyOffice seems faster (but I
have no one to collaborate with to test the group editing features).
As far as editing goes
Collabora seems to be better for LibreOffice , I had issues trying to
upgrade it though in that the PDF export no longer worked so had to revert
back.
OnlyOffice seems to be better for Microsoft documents (Word, Excel,
Powerpoint) (it screwed up one of my libre .odt docs, and also doesn't have
ability to view LibreOffice drawings from what I can tell)

Thanks,
Regina

[OSGeo-Discuss] OSGeo SAC Meeting highlights

2020-06-06 Thread Regina Obe
We had a meeting today - sadly only wildintellect, robe, and jef
contributed, but I feel we got a lot accomplished.

Discussions were

1. How to deal with OSGeo4W and other (Windows / Mac build ) needs -- I
think more research needs to be done here.
I started a page as to my understanding of needs and what research needs to
be done to push forward.

Feel free to add to this page
https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/SAC_Shared_Building_Services

2. How to convert wiki authentication to use our LDAP so it's like the other
services we offer?
Now that wiki has been migrated to latest version and Latest Debian OS - we
are ready to start work on this.

I sent a note to the most promising contractor proposal we received and he
said he can do it. I'll let you know once we find out more details about
this.

So the general plan is as follows:
1. Do some trial tests in dev environment I setup (that is a backup of
production wiki and secure (our ldap) )
2. Then push changes to production once we are comfortable we have the work
flow right

Workflow:

Users log in with their current wiki user and then log in again with their
LDAP credentials.
Information about their LDAP user would be added to their wiki account and,
in the future, they could use their LDAP credentials to log into their wiki
user account.
We ideally will not allow any new wiki accounts to be created (outside of
LDAP).
Eventually after some grace period we would then retire the original wiki
login method in favor of LDAP.

Thanks,
Regina

[OSGeo-Discuss] Wiki edit rights issue

2021-05-08 Thread Regina Obe
After the change in Wiki to change to LDAP authentication, a number of
people are having issues editing pages.

This is because they are not being removed from certain groups that
designated for users in process of merging.
We are working on fixing that moving forward. In the meantime, those with
this issue can do one of the following:

Just put a note on this ticket with your name -
https://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo/ticket/2599

Alternatively if you have a wiki admin/bureaucrat readily handy who has
already been successfully merged, you can ask them to fix your account.

To Administrators/Bureaucrats (thanks to all who have already stepped in)
-

There are generally two causes. I'm going to tell you how to fix the more
general and easier to fix case.

Go to user rights page - https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Special:UserRights and
look up the person in question:

If you see the following groups checked on their account, uncheck them and
save:

-
wiki account
 account in progress of converting
-

Then save and that should fix the issue.

The harder to fix problem are when people are under two or more equivalent
names but different in casing or _

Case in point was Astrid emde vs. Astrid_emde vs astrid_emde

Those ones the account may look okay but I have to go into the back to see
it's duplicated. Just put those on the ticket and I'll fix.

We're hoping to have the issue resolved in next week and then we'll fix all
the accounts that are broken. If we can't I'll put similar messages like
this on the wiki login page.

[OSGeo-Discuss] WIKI migrating to LDAP upcoming Friday

2021-03-28 Thread Regina Obe
After 13 years of planning we are finally upgrading wiki.osgeo.org to
authenticate with LDAP and ONLY use LDAP thenceforward for authentication as
detailed in below ticket.

https://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo/ticket/165

The move will happen this coming Friday, at which point, when you log in:

1) You will be informed your wiki account will be migrated, and led thru the
steps of migrating your wiki account to LDAP.

2) After the migration, you will then only use your LDAP account for your
wiki editing and all your previous history will be moved to your LDAP
account.
3) Future Wiki login will require the user to have an LDAP account, so no
wiki approval of accounts will happen thenceforward. The Request Account
link at the top sends the user to our LDAP create account page.

I have done a trial run of the migration at the below:

https://staging.wiki.osgeo.org

Please try the above and let me know if you run into any issues. You can
report said issues on the trac ticket:

https://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo/ticket/165

If no issues reported before the final planned migration this Friday, we
will proceed as planned.

[OSGeo-Discuss] Heads up OSGeo7 restart and upgrade later today

2021-12-11 Thread Regina Obe via Discuss
I will be restarting OSGEO7 in about an hour (it's been needing a reboot
for a while) and I will also be doing a dist upgrade.
There will be a lot of up and down while I do that. I'm hoping to be
finished in a 1-2 hr time frame.

Feel free to respond to this email if you have issues with this.

Impacted services are listed on:

https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/SAC_Service_Status#osgeo_7

On a side note - we had an interruption today with many of our domains being
unreachable.
It was an issue with our DNS provider Pair Domains with their NS servers.
I think they are still working on the issue, but things seem more or less
back to normal for us.

Thanks,
Regina

[OSGeo-Discuss] OSGeo 7 upgrade starting in a bit

2021-12-11 Thread Regina Obe via Discuss
Sorry for the delay. I have not started the OSGeo7 upgrade first.

My OpenVPN wasn't able to connect to the console, but I have that issue
squared away now with OSUOSL staff help.

That said I'm going to start the upgrade process now and expect things to go
up and down. Hopefully for no longer than an hour.

Thanks,
Regina

[OSGeo-Discuss] If you are using download.osgeo.org for sftping use upload.osgeo.org

2022-03-25 Thread Regina Obe via Discuss
This is a note for those folks who upload content to download.osgeo.org

>From now on please use upload.osgeo.org

For osgeo7 to hop across servers -- use hop.osgeo7.osgeo.org

We are going to be distributing the load on download.osgeo.org across
servers, so if you are using download.osgeo.org you may not be hitting the
source server.

[OSGeo-Discuss] Help us test out Weblate

2022-01-06 Thread Regina Obe via Discuss
We have Weblate installed on OSGeo infra

At

https://weblate.osgeo.org
For a trial run I'm using our PostGIS workshop

You can login with your LDAP credentials and then I can grant you rights to
the postgis-workshop project.

If I set this up right - commits should show up after an hour or so after
each commit on the below links.

English: https://postgis.net/workshops/en/postgis-intro/
Japanese: https://postgis.net/workshops/ja/postgis-intro/
German: https://postgis.net/workshops/de/postgis-intro/
Spanish: https://postgis.net/workshops/es/postgis-intro/
Italian: https://postgis.net/workshops/it/postgis-intro/

And you should see your commit show here:
https://github.com/postgis/postgis-workshops

here is an example Sandro did -
https://github.com/postgis/postgis-workshops/commit/f3b1f810a9c25d2889c2216b
62d4843a44544858

My plan is after we are done with some kicking of tires, we will switch
PostGIS docs from transifex to weblate.

For others who want to try it on their projects, let me know I can show you
what little I know about the topic :)

Thanks,
Regina

[OSGeo-Discuss] OSGeo7 will be going down in about 24 hrs for standard maintenance

2022-07-28 Thread Regina Obe via Discuss
I will be rebooting osgeo7 in about 24 hrs.
During this downtime, the following services will be down.

https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/SAC_Service_Status#Services_on_osgeo7

Note that services that rely on ldap.osgeo.org will be impacted during this
maintenance window.
Expect people to not be able to log into these services even if they are not
on osgeo7. Services not on osgeo7 that will be impacted (e.g. logging in to
OSGeo servers , weblate.osgeo.org, repo.osgeo.org, qgis plugin upload,
wiki.osgeo.org)

I don't expect more than 30 minutes of downtime.

I will send a note before I start the process and after the process is
complete.
Feel free to write me if you have issues with this.

Thanks,
Regina
