[slim] Can't unzip email plugin

2006-10-28 Thread rbl

I am trying to use the Email plugin version 1.42 (for slimserver 6.5)
from http://callisto.deane-freeman.com/slimserver/, which is accessed
from the Slimdevices website, but winzip comes out with the following
error message Error reading header after processing 0 entries.

Any ideas?

Sounds like an error with your download. I just downloaded it and
confirmed that the file is okay. Try re-downloading and unzipping

managed to unzip it by downloading 7-Zip. I now have email.pm in the

But I can't see this plug in anywhere in Slimserver. It apparently

[slim] connect SB3 directly to computer

i want to connect my sb3 directly to my computer via ethernet cable, but
it doesn't seem to work. is this even possible at all? i have all my mp3
files set up on a second hard drive (F:/). when i run slimserver it says
it cannot find my sb3. the reason i'm trying to do this is that i will
be taking my computer and sb3 to my wedding reception and randomly
playing music from the F: drive. i can accomplish this goal by other
means, but i'd much prefer to use the sb3 as i like the interface
better. otherwise, i'll need to bring my monitor which is large and
more distracting than the sb3. anybody have any thoughts on how i can
directly connect my sb3 to my computer via ethernet cable? thanks.

Yes, a crossover cable is definitely what you need.

Of course, if you have a old/spare hub or switch lying around you could
use that too, but the cable will be the cleanest solution for you.

[slim] Crossfade: Can we have longer than 10 seconds

2006-10-28 Thread ajmitchell

Hi,

I know not everyone uses cross-fade, but for the benefit of the many
who do, I was wondering if we can have the option to cross-fade over
more than 10seconds, eg 15seconds possibly even 20. Many songs have
such a long natural fade that 10seconds give no perceptable overlap.

Is there a reason that 10 second is some kind of fixed limit?

[slim] Re: Music Folder Problems

2006-10-28 Thread wesg

Thank you ModelCitizen,

Your suggestion to use the UNC path was spot on. The server now finds
all the music, but the cover art is acting funny.

In gallery view none of the artwork is visible, however if I click on
any album into the album view it does show the cover art.

Apparently it is finding all the art, but it is not making the reduced
size images for the gallery view. Thoughts?

When I was storing on all music locally on the XP box it all worked
great. Only change is the location of the files and the music folder
as we have discussed.

[slim] Cover art not showing with files on NAS

2006-10-28 Thread wesg

I'm running server 6.5.0, on XP Pro SP2.

All flac files stored in album directories with cover.jpg in each
directory.

When I had the files all stored locally on the XP box everything was
working like a champ.

I recently moved the entire directory structure off to a NAS. Now when
I scan the flac files off of the \\NAS_NAME\media\Music the gallery view
artwork is not working.

If I go to sort by album, gallery view I only see blank image
placeholders. If I drill into an album, the artwork shows up
perfectly. So it seems as if the art is being found, just no resized.

Interestingly when I run Moose the album art also does not appear.
When I ran Moose prior to moving the files it all worked as well.

The only difference is the directory structure is now located via a UNC
address on a ReadyNAS vs. stored locally on the XP box.

I've looked in the FAQ and wiki to no avail. Any thoughts?

Thanks

[slim] Small Amplifier for in-wall speakers

2006-10-28 Thread linuxtuxie

Hi all,

I am looking for a small amplifier for mu squeezebox to amplify some
in-wall speakers. It is the intention that the amplifier and its psu
are not visible at all (that's why they need to be small ;)

The in-wall speakers I would like to use have the following specs
(DC101 - http://www.artsound.be/index.cfm?PageID=16090)

2-way 88 dB speaker
Nominal RMS power: 35 Watts
impedance: 8 ohm
frequency: 65-20 KHz

2 in-wall speakers will be placed in my living room which measures
4x8metres

In the forums I read a lot about the sonic T-amp and Dr. Amp...My first
question, will those amps be powerful enough?

And my second question, does anybody know where to buy them in
Europe..or are there other (and better?) solutions out there ?

Thanks in Advance!

That should work. It's exactly the way I have my music stored.

Now when I scan the flac files via \\NAS_NAME\media\Music, the gallery
 view artwork has stopped working.
Are you sure the library scan has completed when you try to use the
gallery view? The scanning process happens in several passes, and one
of the last passes is the one that catalogs artwork.

If I go to sort by album, gallery view I only see blank image
placeholders. If I drill into an album, the artwork shows up
perfectly. So it seems as if the art is being found?
One of the strange little idiosyncracies of SlimServer, which has to be
explained here at least once a week, is that the cover thumbnails are
generated from the covers that SlimServer finds during a library scan
and stores in its database. When you get to the album view, however,
SlimServer ignores the data it has stored and looks for the cover
artwork in the file system instead. So it looks like the covers are
OK, and that SlimServer can find them when it really needs to, but for
some reason the scanning process may not be seeing them.

Interestingly, when I run Moose the album art also does not appear in
this configuration. When I ran Moose prior to moving the files it all
 worked as well.
Moose probably just uses SlimServer's database to find the covers, so
if SlimServer doesn't catalog a cover, Moose won't have it either.

I've looked in the FAQ and wiki to no avail. Any thoughts?
Are you running SlimServer 6.5.x? If so, one thing to try is
completely clearing the Cache folder. There seem to be a few ongoing
issues with the cache, particularly as used by SlimServer's web
seerver.

Thinkgeek.com will ship you a T-amp in Europe, I believe, but it may not
be worth the trouble with duties, etc. Besides, it's probably not what
you need. The first 5W or so are what everybody raves about. From
about 5W to 10W it's pretty lo-fi, and that's about as high as it goes.
It depends how loud you want it.

[slim] Re: connect SB3 directly to computer

2006-10-28 Thread kgturner

thanks for the info, guys. as far as assigning a static ip address, does
it particularly matter what address i assign? or can i just enter any
series of random numbers as long as they match on both the sb3 and my
computer. i found a tutorial on how to change to a static ip address,
but didn't necessarily know what numbers i need to enter. is there a
particular range i need to keep it between? fyi...my current ip address
is 192.168.0.100. it's dynamic though, not static. can i just use this
and enter it manually into the sb3 and the LAN properties in my
computer's network connection? sorry for the excess questions, i'm not
too familiar with changing ip addresses.

kgturner,

Don't forget to give your Squeezebox a static (fixed) IP address on the
same network as your PC so they can see each other.

[slim] Logitech and Slim Devices

2006-10-28 Thread MrSinatra

here's a very interesting product:

http://www.denguru.com/2006/10/26/carefree_music_streaming_with_the_logitech_wireless_dj_music_system/

is it possible a 'squeezebox 4' could combine the best of this product,
with the best of SS/SB2-3?

no drm problems.
color screen on REMOTE not device.
multiple digital outputs.
separation of receiver and charger base.
winamp support.

i wonder if logitech wants to do this, thus the acquisition? i hope
so.

[slim] Re: Crossfade: Can we have longer than 10 seconds

2006-10-28 Thread seanadams

Crossfading requires that both tracks be decompressed so that they can
be mixed. This means a much larger amount of memory is needed for each
second of crossfade than for each second of normal stream buffering.
Going beyond 10s (x2 == 20s) for the crossfade would take away too much
space from the main streaming buffer.

2006-10-28 Thread aubuti

Yeah, this has been noted since before the acquisition
(http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=28813). My personal
guess is that Logitech won't see any logic in having two devices at the
same price point, and my hope is that they'll aim for the best of both,
which is basically an SB3 with an slick(er) remote. Support for DRM'd
sources might also be in the picture, although irrelevant from my POV.

[slim] Re: Logitech and Slim Devices

2006-10-28 Thread MrSinatra

it just seems like the opportunity is here to build a dream product.

imagine using your computer to play a DVD's audio (and video) thru the
device? (movies or albums)

what about streaming the video too? visualizations, etc?

how about having it superimpose menus on your TV?

logitech does need to lose the xmtr part, and simply use the router
like SD does. and i think the systray feeder should be just a simple
feeder for whatever pgm u want to use, whether it be a better version
of SS or winamp or whatever, a simple layer audio routing feeder, as
opposed to a featured pgm.

and separating the charger base from the stereo interface, and bringing
said interface up to SD quality is a must, but it seems like its CLOSE
to being there... all the next steps towards a new collaboration
product between the current SB and this current logitech product seem
evolutionary, and not far away.

Hi all,

First post, just wanted to say this time yesterday I'd never heard of
the squeezebox ( living on mars :) ), now I've just got back from Scan
with a white(would have preferred black but they didn't have any)
squeezebox and I absolutely love it.

For the last few weeks I've been looking for something for the living
room that'd let me access all my music and I was about to settle for an
iPod with Apple Hi-Fi. Thankgod I found this first. It's a superb
product. Lookinng forward to reading these forums to get the most out
of it too.

Had to get that off my chest :)

cheers

[slim] Still Trying to Get 6.5.1 to work

2006-10-28 Thread broth420

I finally figured out the various artists issue. Thanks everyone for
your help. Now, I have another strange problem. If I scan my library
with the playlist folder populated with playlists, I lose over 800
artists. The playlists are there, all albums show up, and even all the
songs, but the artists list is very wrong. As long as I don't add in my
playlists (created using a 6.x version of SlimServer), I am good, but as
soon as I add the playlists back, my database gets funky.

[slim] Music Folder Problems

2006-10-28 Thread wesg

I also posted in the 3rd party forum, but since the server is running on
XP, this might be the better location.

I am running slimserver 6.5.0 on Win XP Pro SP2. I have an infrant
ReadyNAS NV connected via the network and mapped as a drive (Z:) on the
XP box.

All the flac files are stored on the ReadyNAS, however I am running the
server on the XP box.

In the slimserver, under slimserver setting in the set music folder. I
am entering the drive as z:\music. However the server keeps telling me
the z: drive does not exist. This is odd since I can go to a command
prompt in windows and enter 'cd z:' and see the NAS directory.

Can the slimserver not use mapped drives? How do I configure the music
folder to find the NAS?

Thanks for your help. All is quiet here until I can sort this out. : )

[slim] Re: MusicMagic: Error Sending Playlist to Player

2006-10-28 Thread downtime

I have had this problem also with MIP 1.7 and SS 6.5b3 using the full
MIP library as a source for mixes. Sometimes one track would make it to
the SS playlist, sometimes the whole list, and sometimes some other
amount. Always after a partial list is sent, MIP has to be restarted to
reestablish communication with SS. So,...

I tried this - created a few filters so that lists could be built only
from tracks from the MIP library that were also in the SS library.
Those lists transfer successfully. It seems that when tranferring a
list that contains tracks not in the SS library, they have to be added
before the list continues processing. I think that may cause the error.
At any rate, I have sent a dozen 30-track MIP lists in a row built of
tracks known to be in the SS database without errors.

I have tried building SS libraries of my complete collection but it
bogs down the server. So, I have some files for MIP lists and the
others I am content to choose through the Music Folder.

I hope this helps.

Use the network (UNC) path (the one that starts with \\), look in
network neighbourhood. It is possible that you may need to run
SlimServer service under an account that has network privileges too.
The default install under local system account does not.
