Thanx Erland,
I posted again becuause unchecking the Playlist manager didn't help. I
think you are right about reinstalling. I hate doing that because I
always miss something that I setup years ago and have forgotten about.

[slim] Nokia 770 $129 on woot.com now!

2007-06-24 Thread Grahame

Dear All,

Todays woot on http://woot.com is the Nokia 770 for $129 ( + $5
Shipping)

I have one (purchased for much more, shortly after it came out), and
use it with the Nokia770 skin created by Ben Klaas. (search the forums
for more info)

(The 770 skin is included on recent slimserver releases - try it
yourslimserver:9000/nokia770)

The limitations of the 770 are well known, it has been superseded by
the N800, but the woot price is a good one (best I found on
pricegrabber currently was ~$259).

So if you want a wireless touchscreen remote for your SB (or
transporter), that displays album art - and lets you surf the web, Now!
(as opposed to waiting for the iPhone ;), or some
as-yet-unannounced-jive-powered device :) ) - and feel the price is
worth it for you - then head over to woot.com

Though I'd better point this out to people who want one, or had been
previously put off by the price.

Hope you find this useful.

Grahame

Re: [slim] Squeezebox Repair

What luck... someone gave me a denali electric screwdriver that came
with a Torx bit.

I got it open. A couple of little pieces on one side that hold the main
display broke loose - but otherwise - as far as I can tell - the unit
works perfectly. I'm surprised that it could take that amount of
jarring and have the electronics remain intact.

Just like timex, eh - takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

Thanks!

I just remembered seeing a recent post in these forums about the cache
location being different in Vista, but I couldn't find the thread.
Maybe someone else will report on that.

As for showing multiple tags, in my experience that has only been an
issue with mp3 files. If your files are flac it's unlikely
(impossible?) that's the problem. If you have mp3s, add a column to the
mp3tag display and put this in the value section (without the quotation
marks): "%_tag_read%[ (%_tag%)]"

I don't think it's going to happen (reliably, anyway). Read 'this

The hole is for the wifi connector I think. There might have been a
cover over the hole which could be the rattling.

It should just be a torx bit to remove the cover, it's not complicated
or hard to repair. One of the few consumer devices that is nice that
way.

[slim] Squeezebox Repair

2007-06-24 Thread kkitts

Hi All,
I've recently purchased an old Squeezebox 2 off of eBay. The unit was
advertised as being "wired only". It seems a bit strange to me - but
there is a round "hole" in the back pane (center) of the unit.

Also, when you turn the unit upside down or on it's side you can hear
parts falling around inside. However, a couple of days of testing seems
to indicate that the unit is working fine.

I'd really like to remove whatever is rattling around loose inside the
case - even though it seems to work anyway. Is it is simple as removing
the screws that are on the bottom of the unit? Also, do you need a
special tool to do this?

Any hints or tips most apprec. Thanks.

All of the channels overlap others. 1, 6 and 11 don't overlap
_each_other_, which I suppose would be a good thing to know if you were
putting up three wireless networks in your home. Or maybe if you have a
couple of neighbors with wifi networks you can work something out to use
only those three channels. If there are more than three competing
networks, though, there will be some interference somewhere, and one of
the other channels could easily end up being optimal.

Remember these things when dealing with WiFi:

1, 6, and 11 are the only non-overlapping channels on 11g. All the
others can cause problems. (There are situations that you can use
others, but you need to understand RF engineering very well to use them
:)

Antenna orientation matters. The signal coming off the antenna is
shaped like a doughnut if you stuck the antenna through the hole.
There is less signal coming from the tip as coming from the sides. The
higher the gain of the stick antenna, the flatter the doughnut is.

The N800 has a version of Helix RealPlayer bundled so can play many
internet radio formats. Check here for some details.

An initially undocumented feature is a real FM radio (earphones
provides the antenna) - the s/w to enable the radio is now available
form Nokia as an update.

There is also a version of mplayer ported to the N800 which can be used

still not great (do a google on Gmyth and N800).

[slim] Crossfade + Sleep = Noise?

2007-06-24 Thread TorbenGB

I've noticed that the combination of crossfade and sleep timer turns out
ugly. Crossfade usually works fine, but when adding the sleep timer, it
turns the volume up to full just before turning off:

1) One tune would play and about 60 seconds before the end of the
track, the sleep timer starts to turn down the volume slowly to zero.
With a 10-second crossfade, the next track is mixed in 10 seconds
before the first track ends, but by then it's already so quiet that you
can't hear it.

2) When the first track ends, the unit *should* turn off. But *what
happens is* that the volume jumps up to the initial level and the other
track plays for about 2 seconds. Then it powers off abruptly.

3) The experience from that is not a soft sleep power-off but an ugly
blotch of sound and then silence. It must be a bug that wasn't found
during their internal testing.

(My SB3's are all set to 10-second crossfade (in&out) with per-track
gain from software and no SB3 gain processing. This works exceptionally
well to create a continuous sound experience, much like a radio station
without talk or ads.)

The wired only SB3 has been discontinued, assumed it wasn't cost
effective to produce and stock.

Re: [slim] Nokia N800

2007-06-24 Thread NY2006

Hi John,

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate knowing
everything you have mentioned about the Nokia N800.
You mentioned Select Radio souldn't work because of the Linux
system...do you if other software from download.com can be downloaded
and instaled on the Nokia N800 as long as its Linux software ? Does it
only support an mp3 player or does it also support Windows Media Player
and Real Player ? I would be interested to know if it supports
watching live TV from its own mp3 player or other players like VTuner,
Replay Radio, etc.
Do you know if its possible to listen to XM or Sirius ?
I believe I read some where it does support Real Rhapsody.
Thanks,

Dave -

[slim] SB without wireless

2007-06-24 Thread Walter Wullschleger
Hi,

I'm a proud owner of one of the very first handmade Slimp3. Till now
everything goes pretty well and I'm still happy with the "old" device.
But now I'm thinking to buy a Squeezebox (btw. I don't care about the
Logitech logo - quality, function and support is important). So,m I was
checking the Slimdevice and the Logitech webpage to buy a new SB. Now I
have seen, that only the wireless SB is available. Do they don't have
anymore the wired SB? I know that the wireless one have an ethernet
connector, but I don't want to pay wireless, if I do not need it.

Walt

Re: [slim] Help - Artists disappearing from Artist list but their albums are still present!?

2007-06-24 Thread Richard_2482

According to settings/version info I am running SlimServer Version:
6.5.2 - 12047 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252.
I don't know what you mean by 'latest nightly build'.
Since posting, I uninstalled and reinstalled slimserver. Still these
two artists are missing (although their albums appear in the album
list), and possibly more I haven't noticed yet.
The file location of the ripped files is exactly the same as all the
other files, nothing different as far as I can tell.

[slim] Stuttering, buffering failure SLIMP3

2007-06-24 Thread Chriss

If I play an internet radio stream (Radioio) at 32 bit it play fine,
with a large buffer. If I play 128 bit music stream from the same
provider, the music stuuters, the buffering is very low and the music
can stop.

I am running a SLIMP3 on a Mac 10.4.10
SLIMP3 6.5.2

This is a recent problem. perhaps over the last two or three weeks.

Re: [slim] How to I really wipe out the music library

2007-06-24 Thread agentsmith

I am using Windows Vista Home Premium. In the older Slimserver versions
I used to be able to to go to "c:\program
files\slimserver\server\Cache" to delete the database. But with 6.5.2
I the directory does not seem to exist.

I with look into the multiple tags option as well. Have to learn how
to do it with MP3TAG
