This that I have to do to make it work.

First connect the player, load a playlist, and reconnect the player.

Most of the time I need to reconnect the player 2-3 times after I
loaded the playlist before it starts playing.

My plan is to take apart a squeezebox remote and mount the remote's PCB
inside the clock radio. Buttons mounted on the outside of the case will
be wired to it and it will in turn control the Squeezebox.

The only volume control necessary will be the squeezebox's, but I have
to admit to preferring a big analog knob, so I am not sure if I lock
the SB volume control and just use a potentiometer or whether I will
set the Amp6's output where I want it with a resistor and use the SB to
control volume. It would be nice if the SB was able to control volume,
however, so that I could take advantage of plugins like SleepFade

I am still in the planning stages and would love to hear from others
who have attempted or contemplated building something similar.

One thing I do not understand about clock radios like the SoundBridge is
why they feel the need to put stereo speakers in them. For the common
placement of a clock radio stereo speakers is not needed and you are
actually better off with a good single speaker and decent mono amp.
When your stereo speakers are only 8 inches apart and you are listening
to to them pretty much directly off the side stereo separation is not
really possible.

[slim] Artwork issues with Nokia 770 skin

2007-12-14 Thread tonyptony

Like many here I've been using the Nokia 770 and Ben's great skin for
control of my SB3. I have just finally completed the accumulation of
all my album artwork (~1000 albums). They are all JPG files stored as
cover.jpg in each album directory, with sizes ranging from 240x240 to
500x500.

I can see the covers fine when I select an album, but when I use either
the Artwork or 1x1 selections on the Nokia skin I just get grey
thumbnails with question marks in them. I did read that it may take
some time for the Artwork page to fill (it currently shows 50 covers at
a time), but the 1x1 page is only showing two covers at one time (the
artwork should appear pretty much instantly, no?). Do I have some kind
of problem, or does it just take too long for the cover art to load
into the skin?

@ModelCitizen - The Roberts radio looks interesting, but I'd like to
make use of Slimserver, err SqueezeCenter, as much as I can.

@m1abrams - I agree. I won't bother with stereo unless I can put the
second speaker on the other side of the bed. Or maybe the speakers will
be outside the cabinet. Putting drivers in the cabinet requires a lot of
compromises on speaker size shape.

I need to make a firm decision on form factor before I go further,

Actually the internet search comment and the SB3 promo code post just
continue the mildly annoying theme. The offer at the top of the forum
page still isn't available to most of us. And, the promo code noted
above and the other current promo (free SB3 with a Transporter) isn't
the same deal as the holiday party offer. 10 pages into a Google search
showed no deal similar to the one that is available to locals only.

This falls in the category of various promotions I've seen other
companies do over the years that make a tiny percentage of customers
very happy and irritate to varying degrees a much larger number. That's
an interesting strategy in my book.

Oh well. Time for me to move on.

People who are irritated by this need to grow some thicker skin.

Ummm, you forgot to quote my last sentence: Oh well. Time for me to
move on. I also concluded my initial post with the words: Just a
thought.

I fully understand it is a big world and there will always be things
here and there that I wish were done differently but aren't.

If Logitech/Slim Devices isn't interested in how people respond to
their advertising and promotions, so be it. However, I did note several
responses were quickly posted after my first comment that were in basic
agreement with my thoughts. Lots of companies have come up with
advertising promotions over the years that didn't pan out as envisioned
during the marketing meeting. Most of them like finding that out so they
do a better job of hitting their target the next time around.

If they think my comments have any merit, they are free to use them. If
they think yours carry the day, then we'll continue to see the current
one repeated. It ain't any more complicated than that.

See you around and have a great Christmas (or whatever strikes your

If you use Tune in then once playing press right on the SB remote and
you will be able to add to favorites.

You could also use the MyPicks plugin.

If you have many stations and you also Squeezenetwork, then you can
also use MyPicks to make Squeezenetwork favorites available on your SB

Re: [slim] Troubleshoot Live365?

2007-12-14 Thread sow

I just upgraded to the 12/14/7 nightly build of Squeeze Center and
tested Live365 (subscription). It works fine, except I was surprised
to see the web browser still doesn't display the channel and/or song
details unless it's currently playing. Otherwise it displays an ugly
URL. This seems to be an ongoing issue...or is it just me?

Thanks,

Phil

Thanks for the reply. I changed the buffer on the radio station -
hopefully that will help. As for question #1, I mean when I'm
connected to the SlimServer, I would like to be able to tune a specific
radio station using the remote control and the Squeezebox as opposed to
opening up SlimServer and putting in the url to Tune URL. Any way to
do that?

I think you have the RSS news ticker parameter Items displayed per
channel set to 3. Changed to 6 to display the 6 items in your weather
forecast.

Re: [slim] mildly annoying

2007-12-14 Thread peterw

I hope everybody enjoyed/is enjoying the open house. Hey, Mike, this
time how about identifying the Slim/Logi staff, especially the forum
participants, in any posted photos?

Lottery... not free gear, but a drawing for the chance to buy at the
open house price. Have the lottery drawing several days before the open
house, and any unsold lottery merch goes to the open house sale. This
might not only make faraway fans happier, but encourage some online
hype interest in the product line (think of the Digg possibilities).
I'd suggest only using the lottery for a portion of the refurb gear and
a limited number of new units, to guarantee to locals that there would
be some bargains at the open house. The lottery should be announced only
about a week before the entry deadline drawing, to reduce any adverse
affect on sales of new units. IMHO, IANAMarketingExpert, etc.

2007-12-14 Thread dminches

I have the majority of my music on my NAS, designated as drive T:. I
also have other music on a local drive, F:. I put a shortcut for F: in
the root folder of T: but for some reason that drive never seems to get
scanned. All the folder on T: show up in my library, but never the
music on F:. Shouldn't this work?

[slim] Slimserver - can't access music on NTFS

2007-12-14 Thread jason442

Hey folks,

I having a weird issue with Slimserver. Slimserver is installed and
running in Ubuntu 7.10. For some reason I cannot set the music folder
to my NTFS drive - which contains all my music. It's mounted at
/media/sdc5/Music. slimserver says ops - /media/sdc5/Music doesn't
seem to be a valid directory. Try again.

I can browse to that location and also play music using the default
ubuntu media player. So what's the deal?

Please help!
Thanks!
Jason

Take a look at this wiki page
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?MusicOnLinuxUSBHardDrives

A /media mount point sounds like an external drive, but in any case,
you should look into the availability and permissions issues covered on
the wiki.

Using Windows shortcuts with SlimServer can be tricky.

You might find it easier to manage if you first create an empty folder
on the machine running SlimServer and designate it as your music
folder. Within this folder create one shortcut to each of the music
file locations, both on the network and on the local machine. Make
sure that any shortcuts create are from the perspective of the server
machine itself. Generally, it's easiest if you create the shortcut
while logged in at the SlimServer machine.

If you ever want to run SlimServer as a Windows service, you'll be much
better off using UNC style paths to any network shares on the NAS. So
instead of using 'T:', the shortcut would look something like:

\\NASname\ShareName\MusicFolder

or possibly just

\\NASname\ShareName

To do this in Windows, right-click the shortcut after you've created it
and change the target.
