Re: [slim] Firmware upgrade problems
You need to upgrade to latest SC7 which is needed now otherwise you end up toggling firmwares when using SN and SlimServer 6.x.x I guess we're going to see this issue popping up quite frequently in the forum. I've counted several bewildered users so far. Andy, if you're reading this - perhaps the firmware downgrade error message on the SB should suggest installing SC7 To summarize: 81 is the firmware that was in effect with SlimServer 6.5.4 and the old SN 86 is the firmware in latest SC 7.0 and the new SN 86 is required for Pandora Rhapsody in the new SN -- y360 y360's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10150 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44103 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] SC7 - What is Official Release date?
Like the title says: As of this moment (Monday March 3rd) what is the expected date for the official release of Squeeze Center 7? And few other questions while I'm at it. Will SC7 install over SlimServer thus saving my music library and other settings? Or will I have to do a complete rescan of my music library and reset all the various settings? I do understand that I will need new plugins for SC7, so that is not an issue. Re: [slim] Stop after this song?
Yes, using the sleep in this fashion does keep the current playlist, to resume just hit play (twice?) on the remote. How hard would it be to implement 'sleep' at the end of the NEXT song? I'm afraid I agree. I've just read the OP and my first thought was to check all the things that I then found SuperQ had already suggested (quite diplomaticly IMO) in order to determine whether the problem was real or not. [slim] Computer hang or Slimserver stops
Hi, 2 very weird scenarios: 1. Not SlimServer related but maybe someone solved this before. Computer hangs when accessing 3 FLAC files (Computer hates Alanis :) ). ChkDsk found nothing. It is an XP Pro machine. It hangs even if I try to copy them. to override this I renamed them to a different extension so that SlimServer won't accidentally access them. Any idea what could go wrong? system logs shows nothing. as if there is a power outage when I access those files. 2. 2am daily, music stops on all 4 SB3s. very annoying as baby kid used to sleep with classical music. It is like a daily alarm. baby cries at 2:01am, I wake up, go restart music and back to bed... no alarm or scheduled activity I could find on server, nor rescan. all these happens between 8-9am. must get some help on this as baby refuse to sleep without classical music. A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41597 Question: Does Album Catalogue Creator (RC5+) create a trustworthy output? - Yes - Yes but with minor issues - No - It does not work at all killie99;274593 Wrote: I'm begining to think this is a squeezecenter problem. If I do a scan of my music directory, sometimes some of the compilation albums show as not being by various artists but show as by one of the artists on the album. When this happens the album catalog creator shows the compilation albums as by 1 of the artists on the album rather than various. It would explain the strange behaviour of ACC. ACC really only queries the database. The query returns regular albums by artist as well as Various artists. The various artists are albums which are classified as various artist by SC. This however is often not true. A regular album with one or more featuring artists on it is classified by SC as Various Artist album. ACC therefor determines for all Various artist albums the actual Artist. It does so by checking the artist performing most of the album songs. If this is true for more than half of the tracks it changes the Various artist to the orginal artist (in a temporary DB table). It works really well presenting 'true' results. After all this is done it uses the temporary table to generate the actual catalog. So having said this I can only say that the problem must be somewhere in the database i would say Frank -- SilverRS8 Author of -'AlbumCatalogCreator' (http://www.vanholt.nl/acc/acc.htm)- for SqueezeCenter SlimServer SilverRS8's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12818 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41597 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

The only one to have given me any direction or help is SEAN. This was my original post Very scrapey/squeaky sound when I turn it and very hard to turn , like something is binding , it's brand new. Now does that sound normal or the way it's supposed to work or how does anyone extrapolate that what Im documenting might be me mistaking the normal operation as broken when its not? As to the unit itself, the remote works just fine and the only reason I tried the knob is that I took it to my upstairs system and have the unit right next to me , my SB is downstairs. I think you have to realise that scrapey/squeaky and hard to turn are somewhat subjective terms. I think SuperQ was also trying to understand exactly what symptoms you are experiencing in order to perhaps give better advice. You said you are used to using internet-forums. Then you'd also know that helping someone with a problem often means asking lots of obvious and trivial questions. It doesn't mean that the askee is implying that the asker is not up to par. Finally these forums (-audiophiles) are ususally very civilized, and so one can assume that if anyone takes the time to answer your question, they are doing it to help, not pester. How is your library organized in respect to folders? It's best to have one folder per album (or per disc from the album). Re: [slim] Inconsistent scanning of the music library
for normal albums the folders are by artist then album and compilation albums are in various artists and then album name. I believe this is a pretty standard way of organising albums: eg flac .david bowie .ziggy stardust .pink floyd animals .various artists Music of the millenium disc 1 Music of the millenium disc 2 What I can't understand is why scanning the music library gives different results when absolutely nothing has changed in the library/squeezecenter. Something in the scanning algorithm seems a bit flakey for that to happen. -- killie99 Musical Fidelity KW250S, Impulse H2 speakers oh, and an SB3 killie99's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8337 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44092 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Another neat way to manage this is to use two networks, one secured that your computer's attach to and one that is not for guests.
