[slim] Scan not understanding my year information

2008-04-01 Thread Jeff Flowerday

My year information is stored:

 MM DD

in some cases MM and or DD will not be included.

Everything that has extra character beyond, is being classified as
unknown.

1996 is good
1996 08is classified unknown
etc...

Is there a way to specify the date format when scanning or to tell the
scanning operation to look at only the first 4 characters when getting
the date.

Thanks,
Jeff

Looking at server.log do you see messages about failure to write the

Can the SBController control an SB3 you mean?

Sure. It can even control a SliMP3 or Softsqueeze. (Though the latter
would be sort of silly...)

Think of the SBR as an SB3 with no display. It has a few extra things
(like adhoc networking to the SBC and the funky multicolor LED) but
beta testing with the remote was done with SB3's since the SBR didn't
exist.

I just switched from WPA2 only to WPA only and it hasn't helped me, my
Duet remote is still stalling for 30 to 180 seconds every now and then.
The > sign just spins when entering an artist or album or any item for
that matter. Eventually I back out and try again or a different item
and it starts working again.

Running SqueezeCenter 7.0, I've updated the remote once when prompted a
week or so ago.

I'm using a Dlink DIR 655 running in ng mode only.

DHCP is on. I've tried both WPA2 only and WPA only.

Wireless strength is 85% or greater.

In another thread, there were reports of this problem that were solved
by installing SqueezeCenter for all users, rather than a single user.
Would you mind trying that and reporting back if it fixes the problem?

Do you recall any updates to 10.5.x that might have been coincident
with problem occuring? Anything else you might have done with the
system (repair disk permissions, etc.)?

We are still investigating the cause of this issue, so your feedback
would be appreciated.

[slim] SC7 Won't Save My Plug-In Settings

2008-04-01 Thread Mr_Smiley

I upraded to SC7 recently and loaded in my favorite plug-ins. I didn't
think they were working, but after a while I realised they were working
perfectly, but SC7 was not saving my plug-in setting changes. The
result is that I can't get any new plug-ins working. It just keeps
telling me they will start after the next restart. I also can't choose
a playlist for iTunes Party Shuffle. SC7 says the changes are saved,
but when I go to the settings again they are the same as they were.
The only way I have the current plug-ins working is because they were
in the plug-in folder when I did a re-install and they got picked up.
Anybody have any ideas?

Re: [slim] For Apple OS: Music Manager/Ripping Software?

2008-04-01 Thread Eric Seaberg

Multitunes is available here http://www.porkrind.org/multitunes/ and
does allow ALL libraries to be seen on the same Mac.

ALAC files are converted on-the-fly using QuickTime and FLAC (at least,
that's how I do it). I also have it convert to LAME MP3s for streaming
over the internet to my office. There is no quality loss, from what I
can tell, at least the FLAC versions.

Again, I prefer using iTunes because the tagging and management of my
libraries remains EXTREMELY simple.

Re: [slim] Pause/Previous/Next buttons not working on controller (7.0.1 r2147) ?

2008-04-01 Thread EliteAV

Have just upgraded controller firmware (from SD card) to build 2160 and
the problem is the same: Pressing pause - mutes the volume but it looks
like the track carries on playing (the elapsed time counters & progress
bar continue updating). Pressing pause again doesnt "unpause" it just
tries to mute the volume again (even though it is already muted).
Holding the pause key down to stop has no effect.

I am using Squeezecenter build 7.0.1 17285.

Everything was working correctly using the original controller firmware
(2114) i.e. as delivered & I havent changed anything on the SC server
since then. However, I will update to the latest SC build tomorrow
evening to see if that fixes the problem.

Makes sense - thank you.

You know what though - I'd like to have a choice of what goes into
firmware - like little check-boxes on installation or something -
anyone from SD know if this is possible?

Also, you can encode to ALAC on something other than iTunes - I use EAC
and a command line ALAC encoder.

Couple of things - have you opened up any ports in your router to access
SS/SC from outside your network? If so, it's possible that someone has
accessed your system from outside (happens, not often, but it does).

Was the playlist using Random Play at all - a couple of people have
reported this kind of behaviour when they have stopped or paused a
random play playlist?

Re: [slim] Non-US Duet Delivery?

2008-04-01 Thread Brian Ritchie

I ordered mine from Ripcaster on the 15th as well, and got it today.
(Having received the email yesterday afternoon, I was allowed to work
from home to wait for the parcel; thanks boss!) That hasn't felt like
too long a wait, but then it's not my first Squeezebox (I remember how
long *that* felt!)

Very easy to set up; the controller got hold of my SB3 very quickly.
The receiver took a few minutes to get going, but was soon in action.

Controller is very slick and quite quick, but there are some things I
miss from the IR remote (like a shuffle button and "play this next")
and from the web interface (rearrange playlist, and not yet got plugins
working). I have hopes that solutions to these will appear, and they're
not showstoppers.

I'm tickled by the Flickr screensaver!

[slim] Squeezebox turns itself on!

2008-04-01 Thread OffColour

Hi folks,

This is driving me nuts. Several times now the my SB has turned itself
on for no good reason. Last night it started up at 2.30am, waking us
all up. Turned it off and went back to bed.
The playlist in Squeezecenter was the same as it was before I went to
bed. There was no mention of the track that was being played.
I know it's not the server because I recently moved to a new server and
upgraded to squeezecenter, but it happened with slimserver too.

Anyone got a clue what could be happening?

You go to "Settings", "Synchronize" on the SBC, and then select which

Re: [slim] BBC Podcats Via Alien BBC, Does it work?

2008-04-01 Thread bpa

The settings are stopgap workarounds because you have a bigger problem -
no router in your local network. Usually people in a similar situation
will then ask why can I not play radio when the PC is turned off or I
can't use Squeezenetwork. So I'd be loathe to recommend the settings
as a fix in the first instance for USB modem users.

The Wiki is available for users to add their advice. I think probably
a new section in the Networking - highlighting problems (and the
workarounds) that a user will have when using a USB modem might be
useful.

The simplicity of the SB belies the complexity of the systems and
components that need to be working properly. Applying workarounds
rather than solving the underlying issue may be storing up problems for
the future.

Re: [slim] Squeeze controller losing network connection

2008-04-01 Thread JimC

All:

I ran across a similar issue while I was working with a journalist in
Denmark. We had problems with his Linksys WR350N and the SB
Controller. By switching from WPA2 to WPA encryption, the problem
disappeared.

For those of you experiencing the problem, if you are using WPA2, would
it be possible for you to switch to WPA to see if the problem is
resolved? Please report your findings here.

Also, if you can run your SB Receiver in a wired configuration, you can
use the "bridged" mode (see the Duet User Guide '*here*'
(http://www.slimdevices.com/su_documentation.html) for details) to test
that the Controller is good and that the issue is with connecting to
your router/AP. If the Controller works reliably in bridged mode, then
we'll need to troubleshoot around the router/AP.

Re: [slim] BBC Podcats Via Alien BBC, Does it work?

2008-04-01 Thread bpa

The workaround to get WMA station to play is as follows.

1. Goto Settings/Advanced/Filetypes
2. Change Windows Media - Windows Media "native" to "disabled" and then
click apply.

This stops decoding in the SB and so SC will handling all WMA streams
before passing them on as Flac to SB.

Logitech and I both got lucky. They'd already shipped the replacement
system to me some time last week, but just didn't notify me of that
fact. So Monday afternoon I received a new system, and this one really

In summary: it appears my problems were due to a bad controller -- a

I agree, I cant hear any substantial difference between my
MeridianG98DH and the SB3 ? if set upp like this.

Replay gain has a bug that could end up in digital clipping.

A simple test would be to try to send an dts or dolby digital stream,
if the bits are altered by the server or SB3 the outcome would be white
noise.

Get a ripp of the same music made by somebody else to rule out your
ripping setupp.

I would also avoid ripping on a laptop off any kind, i've never seen a
good slimline drive (there may be such a thing but i never seen one).
To me many EAC is so slow treads seems to indicate use of laptop's
for ripping.

I'll watch this with interest as i'm afflicted by this audiophilia bug.

Another angle could be that the SB is on it's last leg ? ready to
breakdown any minute now.

WOL works well on the server, but I still have to use my notebook to

There should not be any clicks at the start of FLAC files. Are you sure
there is not actually a click recorded in the track, due to some issue
with how the file was created?

The last one is the only one I know the answer to. See
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?JiveApplets

But now that I think about it, that is probably the solution you need
for the other questions. Check out the RetroBrowser applet, which gives
you the plugin interface you need on the Controller.

[slim] Problem: SB Duet and Server Power Control

2008-04-01 Thread Ventus

Hi,

I just received my Duet in Germany and I am quite happy with it.

But I have problems finding a solution to remotely power on and off (or
hibernate) my Windows XP machine that I use for running Squeezecenter. I
would like beeing able to power on and off the machine via the Duet
Controller.

My investigations lead to Slimdevices Server Power Control Plugin
(PowerCtrl from
http://adrianonline.wordpress.com/projects/squeezebox/).
After installation it shows up in the Squeezecenter plugin list.
But I cannot find any new menu entry on my Controller as described in
the instructions for Squeezebox.

Has anybody managed to get the plugin working with the Duet Controler?

Or does anybody know a solution to send a magic packet packet from the
Duet Controller to the network to WOL my computer (WOL is working fine
from other wireless devices...) and/or to trigger a hibernation or
shutdown skript on the computer via the Duet Controller?

By the way, does anybody know anything regarding the "settings >
Advances >Applet installer" menu on the controller.

Many thanks
-Markus

It's a pretty obscene connotation and shows a lack of respect for the
developers.

Also, why not talk about what is desired BEFORE the feature is
implemented? Get it right before releasing it? You think there's a
lot of talk about it now, what would it be like if it was released and
didn't meet the needs of the users?

Best get your ideas in right now...in a more constructive way.

The only things I can think of that would have any effect are:

Bitrate limiting (should be off)
ReplayGain/SmartGain (also off)
Digital volume control (should be fixed)

I've listed these in order of impact, most significant first. Bitrate
limiting will cause an mp3 transcode which is obviously not good. The
other two relate to the digital volume control. In the first case,
replay gain will often cause the levels from the SB to be lower than
the original CD which can screw up a/b tests, although that's really a
perception thing rather than reality. The digital volume control (also
used by the replay gain functionality) will cause bit loss if it's
turned down significantly, but assuming you have to attenuate somewhere
between the server and the speakers it may (IMHO) not be a bad place to
do it. YMMV and all that :)

Repeat cycles between:

* Off
* Song
* All

Where "All" is repeat everything in the current playlist. So if you
play an album in that mode you will get what you're after.
