Re: [slim] Squidgy for iPhone now available in Apple App Store
I bought the app and have tried it out. My uses for my Squeezebox are almost exclusively Internet Radio and Rhapsody. I don't really stream much music from my computer's hard drive, so I didn't even bother to upload my library to Squidgy. This is great for the Internet Radio browsing and Rhapsody integration. All the features I need are essentially here, but I ran into these bugs/feature requests, which hopefully can be looked into for the next update. If any of these have been addressed already, please ignore, since I didn't take the time to read this entire thread.:) 1. It would be cool if we could disable automatic checks to see if the database is up to date every time Squidgy connects to the server. 2. Hitting the Done button from the Now Playing screen takes you back to the main menu instead of the page you were last on when you went to the Now Playing screen. A back button would be a nice feature, so if I am adding songs to my playlist from Rhapsody, for example, and I want to go to the Now Playing screen to adjust the volume. I adjust the volume, and press Done and i'm dumped back to the main menu instead of the Rhapsody menu. I'm not sure how easy this is to do from a programming standpoint, but it would add a lot of convenience to the program. 3. Favorites don't get imported from Squeezecenter. This would be an excellent thing to add. I keep a lot of my favorite radio stations bookmarked in Favorites. 4. The Search function crashes the app every time I use it. Not a dealbreaker for me since I never really used it, but I happened to try it for grins and it didn't want to play nice. That's all I've come up with so far, but overall, I'm quite pleased with what's here.:) -- munkivelli munkivelli's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=20689 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55073 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] What REALLY happens end-to-end with Apple Lossless files?
I have 200GB of music ripped to .M4A files using iTunes Apple Lossless encoding (alac), that I stream via SqueezeCenter to a Transporter and output to my power amp using the Transporter's variable outputs. Sometimes I get the feeling that the playback is rather shrill, and I am trying to investigate possible causes. What is the exact end-to-end signal path when using M4A alac encoded files? As I understand it, alac files are not decoded natively in the Transporter? So is it true that SqueezeCenter converts alac to flac and sends that to the Transporter? Does the Transporter then convert flac to some kind of raw binary bitstream? And does the Transporter then apply the variable volume control settings in the digital domain before the signal is converted to the variable analog output signal? If so, then it seems that there is a lot of digital processing going on in real time, in at least two different CPUs, that gives plenty of opportunities for rounding errors, timing errors, error correction artifacts, and jitter to creep in. (Not to mention any prior artifacts introduced by iTunes in the ripping process). Did anyone do proper end-to-end tests on the path CD - iTunes - alac - flac - volume - dac in real time, real world conditions? Can one be sure that the process is REALLY lossles? Re: [slim] Streaming to Windows Mobile 6.1 device
Thanks for the reply, I have tried everything again double checking all the steps as suggested. Everything does seem to be 'going through the motions' but no sound. I am still unable to adjust the volume slider in the player window and it defaults to the lowest setting (1 segment). Is there something i can do manually here to see if this is the issue? I have looked in the server log and there doesn't appear to be any messages. I have a gut feeling the issue is with media player streaming? Is there any test i can do at the command line or otherwise to check what it is being stream or not? Try taking out the battery and leaving it out for 10 mins or so as well as an SD card you have in there. Then try the factory reset (hold down add whilst reinserting battery and keep add held down). [slim] Unusual request? filter my music for lossless format?
I am using the Apple Time Capsule as my music server and it is working out fairly well. I rip my music with iTunes into apple lossless (ALAC) but also have older files, AAC files and conversions of the ALAC files into smaller 128Kbps formats to sync my IPODS. This seems to work pretty well since I can sync to specific playlists I have made for the IPOD music. It is labor intensive but it works and I have low patience for learning new music software other than iTunes. HERE IS MY PROBLEM/QUESTION: I use SB3 as a source for my high quality music system in my home. I have pointed the Squeezecenter directly to my music files and have scanned all my music on the Time Capsule. (I stopped using the iTunes TAB but have it scan the music library directly each night).HOWEVER, when I select an album to play, it has duplicate copies in the 2 formats ...the ALAC and the AAC or MPEG. Thus when I play an album it repeats the songs and this is annoying. Is there any way to tell SC to only play one format, or filter out lower bit rates? Or even to sort by the kind of format? Any other ideas ? thanks so much. If the definition of real time is while the signal is transcoded to SPDIF, in other words synchronous and subject to clock errors, then no, there's no real-time processing anywhere up to SPDIF. In fact, the only real-time processing is this very transcoding FLAC/WAV - SPDIF. All the rest (reading from HD, transcoding ALAC to FLAC/WAV, sending through the network, receiving from the network, reconstructing the FLAC/WAV stream) are background processes, immune to clock. Reading the thread it sounds like this is a limitation also of iPeng...maybe I should speed up getting that NAS.. 2. Found some quirks with the app, everytime I launch it is says the database is out of date and needs refreshed, despite not adding any new music - think others have found this. Following that I have found occasions where my collection is out of sync, the attached images show the 'New Music' section from the Main Menu, the top item should be 'The Stills' but is picking up another album, I also seem to lose the 'Artists' 'Genre's' entrys from the main menu from time to time. [slim] Controller causes Transporter to Power-down Mid-song
I have a problem that happens about every 6 or 7 albums I listen to. When I use the Controller to choose an album it plays the first 3 or 4 minutes no problem. All of a sudden the lights on the Transporter display go out, the music continues to play for 10 seconds or so and then the music stops. I have to turn the power back on to The Transporter via pushing the power button on the remote or the unit itself. I can then use the Controller to continue playback and I'll have no problems for the rest of the album. I can't figure it out. Any ideas where I should look to try and correct this issue? Thanks! Sorry I should have explained this a bit more clearly. If your native iPhone App contains a copy of the information in your SC database, and if you had multiple locations (Home/Work/Boat) which had different SC settings and different music libraries and which you might want to control with your iPhone, then wouldn't you need some easy way to say I'm Home so use that database, or I'm at the office, use the Office database. yes, I got that. But iPeng does not have a lengthy sync process at startup. It will re-read the database but that's in the background. Meaning you are one of the few that actually can impair sound quality with to low volume on SB.
