Re: [slim] SB far too expensive?

2009-06-10 Thread DoomWolf

There's often special offers on. I've bought an SB3, Duet and Boom and
only paid full price for the SB3. I got 40% off the Duet from Logitech,
sold the Receiver that I never actually used and bought the Boom from
Amazon for £105 with a discount voucher code. Taking into account
selling the Receiver, I work out I paid £90 for the Boom and £120 for
the Controller.

You just need to keep an eye out for bargains on the internet.

[slim] Wake On LAN from SB3

2009-06-10 Thread Cape11

My NAS is a ReadyNAS PRO; it has Wake On LAN capability.

I first assumed that all I'd have to do to turn on the PRO remotely was
to turn on any SB.

But a SB doesn't appear to do this. On first power-up the SB makes its
network connection and then tries to connect to SC, but because the PRO
is off it makes no connection. However, if you wait until the SB has
failed to make the connection to a 'dead' PRO and then press the On/Off
button on the remote controller, the SB display says 'Wake up
SqueezeCenter' (or something like this - definitely with the word Wake
in the line) and the PRO starts up.

That's a perfectly acceptable way of operating - it means that if you
have a SB integrated into a hi-fi system where there are other sound
sources, the PRO doesn't start every time you turn the hi-fi on, but can
be arranged to turn on when you want it.

But is this feature mentioned an any manual anywhere, and have I
understood everything about this 'feature'?

Re: [slim] Multi room solution

2009-06-10 Thread funkstar

Thats correct, syncing /stream.mp3 with anything else is not supported
at all. I think there was a release where it was possible and caused
problems, however now you should have the option to do it at all. This
fix may be included in 7.3.3 which is due any time now.

Sync between a hardware player and an emulated player (such as
SoftSqueeze, SqueezePlay or SqueezeSlave) is supported, however getting
perfect sync isn't easy as they have no control over what Windows, the
sound card or the sound card drivers are doing.

I'm curious what you have in mind, but if you're committed to using
software players, why not use one of the players designed to work with
SqueezeCenter: SoftSqueeze, SqueezePlay, or squeezeslave? And for just a
little more money you can buy additional SB Receiver(s) and get perfect

Often one hears the expression It's not a bug, it's a feature. But
this time it's the other way around. It's a known issue, and there are
two related bugs/enhancement requests, although it's not clear that
either are being worked on at present. Nor is it clear that if these are
resolved that they will also resolve the related issue that you

apparently votes really do matter in setting priorities for

I use this feature in the same way as you describe it, my SB3 is
connected to my AV receiver switched power socket and I do not need the
SC server to be powered on when I watch TV.

You can already press the power button to send a WoL packet when the
SB3 shows the connectin to SC message.

To send a WoL packet when the SB is switched from SN to SC makes sense,
but it should not affect the current behavior when it is powered on.

Strange, what I experience is:

Server on standby, press power on the remote, Waking up server
message, wait, wait, wait, Squeezebox is connected to Squeezecenter but
in off state. Another power press is required to turn it on.

This assuming that the SB was off when the server went to sleep, it
basically comes back the way it was when the server went into standby. I
feel it should turn on anyway.
I would say there are far fewer cases when one would use a Squeezebox
remote just to wake up a server remotely than there are of somebody
turning on a Squeezebox because he wants to use it to listen to some
music.

Re: [slim] Can BOTH computer and SB be connected wirelessly?

2009-06-10 Thread kowloonside

Yes, I definitely consider the double wireless hop less than ideal.
However, even with my very old laptop, my connection issues have
decreased down to a lost connection when there has been no network
traffic for some time (i.e. first thing in the morning or first thing
when I get home from work). Once I wake up the router, I don't
experience any dropout issues any more.

Maybe when the new computer gets here, I won't even have those minor
issues. If I do, perhaps I'll see about another solution that will let
me keep the computer hard-wired...or an 802.11N router. Anyone have
real-world experience of the better coverage and throughput that N
offers over G?

That screenshot you posted shows that that album only contains one

You will find that many Napster albums are actually singles. When
you browse music in Napster (which can be a PITA) continue to the

check that you are indeed trying to play a whole album, not just one

Hope this is of some help.

Re: [slim] Multi room solution

2009-06-10 Thread gNNY

Hm, my idea seems not to work - at least for now.

Here's the thing: I'm pretty new to this Squeezebox game. Before that I
had (and still have) a Terratec Noxon and was playing music which was
coming from my Qnap NAS via uPnP. Now I've bought a Duet set and I was
playing around with the different options I have now.

The idea was to play music coming from the Squeezecenter through the
mp3 stream on the Noxon. So far, so good: my Noxon system shows up on
the controler as a Windows Media Device in the player list. I can even
synchronize it with other players. And that works, too.

Of course, as explained already in the above posts, as soon as the
receiver comes into play, sync doesn't work as smoothly anymore.

So my idea was this: I wanted to hook up all music playing devices via
the MP3 stream and synchronize it with the controller. Although hardware
synced with MP3 sreams remaines silent, the songs still play on the
streams and I can controll the playlists via the controller. Also, I
won't mind that no sound comes from the controller as it should stay
mute anyway.

The problem is the receiver in the living room. I was hoping that I
could get it hooked up to the stream as well, somehow. Indeed, I was
able to add the stream.mp3 as a Favorit to the receiver's list and it
connects alright. But there is no sound coming from the receiver. And it
won't show up on the player list either so I can't sync it with anything
else.

So unfortunately, it's not working the way I wanted it to work. I tried
to be smart about it, but the Squeezebox is smarter, it seems ;)

I'll toy around with the idea a little bit longer, unless you guys tell
me right there and now that it's a lost cause...

Assuming by receiver you mean a Squeezebox Receiver, then if it isn't

something fair fundamental going wrong that you need to resolve before

Re: [slim] How to make 'stopped' radio station to 'autorestart' ?

2009-06-10 Thread minky

So having read many posts on this it looks like wifi connectivity is a
significant cause so I set about making some changes.

In the end, two changes to my wifi setup sorted out my internet radio
drops

1) Change the wifi mode on the router to G only (previously was mixed
b/g)
2) Change the wifi channel from 11 to 13 (13 is rarely used
apparantly)

Since making these changes on the router I have had hours of continuous
internet radio and last.fm playing.

The SB3, SBC and SBB both picked up the change wifi network without
needing anything doing to them - great!

system. It's using one of those controller units, home run speakers,
central amp, etc., and dumb keypads. The cost = $8,500. Wow.

I think my setup, or a setup that uses a receiver + the iPeng app,
works better in that it's interactive. He's interested in doing this.
He'd have a dedicated receiver for each zone - 8 zones in all. They
will have gigabit wired ethernet to each receiver. Since the receivers
feed independent zones, each they'll all be located by one another.

I know Sonos is out there and brags about their player synchronization.

So, how reliable and well do the SB receivers or Duet receivers sync?

Re: [slim] PDA controller solution

2009-06-10 Thread arztde

It seems to be stable. yesterday i did write a long summary. But did not
postit.

First i describe now what i did test and my Scenario:
1. Squeezecenter running on a EEEBOX B202 with XP.
2. Squeezebox Classic Coax/OUT
3. Sqeezeplay at the EEEBOX SPDIV/OUT
4. Softsqueeze at a Laptop LaptopSpeakers.

Network conection works stable now. All Players are correct display at
SlimControl and work how you like.
a) Synchronisation How you like is possible and output is correct. You
have to change it from the Webinterface. If you use Synchronisation you
change it not so much often but in future it will be nice to have.
b) Multiroom Scenario. You can after you change into independant mode
control all players seperate how you like.
c) If your pda have not a Wifi conection at the start, than
Squezzecontrol is able to activate you WLAN conection. And is able when
you close the program to remember the status. A big advantage to save
battery power.
Browser Buttons work Context sensitive.

d) Workflow is improved and works correct. So the Usability is much
better. But there are a lot of fine secrets in playing with it. Some are
not easy to find out just playing with the application. But they are at
the right place to use. So you do not need to browse a lot through the
structure. Repeat buton of a song or the complete Playlist yfou find
only in Playlist section.

e) Favourites, and saved Playlist work correct.

f) Great work is done with integration of Internetradio. The solution
to realize it with 8 Plugins make it possible to browse with just one
button.

The Squeezebox is a complex application and i sugesst you something
what most Programmers do not like. Its necessary to write a users
manual. Best in most languages what are possible. Best if some who like
to help. Maybee someone from here like to give Sebastian a private
message to help.
