Re: [slim] Squeezebox direct connect to PC

2009-07-27 Thread Mnyb

1. Yes of course all Ethernet stuff can be connected point to point.

If you also want it have internet access via the PC you should turn on
"internet sharing" or whats it's called on windows (if thats what you
are using ).

Fixed IP adresses would also be it, i figure that a "normal" win PC
does not have any DHCP server built in.

for the DNS settings in the SB3 I would use the one provided by my
ISP.
As again i supose the destop OS don't have a DNS server.

2. Search forum I don't remember just now, also depending on your lan
card some are auto sensing auto adjusting ? I think.

Re: [slim] Rebuffering is ruining the Squeezebox experience

2009-07-27 Thread dsdreamer

All,

We seem to have a number of users who are experiencing buffer
under-runs with 7.3.3, and in circumstances where wireless interference
could be ruled out.

I have experienced problems, but traced it to network issues, which I
subsequently fixed by moving to 802.11n in the 5GHz UN-II band. (I added
an Apple Airport Express for each Squeezebox in the system).

Others, however, see problems in what should be very robust wireless
networks or even in wired networks.

We know that the problem seems not to occur with "old streaming" vs.
the "new streaming" introduced after 7.2.1. But we also have evidence
that the bug will be very hard to reproduce on demand to allow decent
investigation.

Is that enough data to open a Bugzilla bug report?

Any ideas?

Is there such a thing:

A bridging software that allows PC Media players (such as mediaMonkey,
Foobar) to emulate Squeezebox, such that SqueezeCenter can control these

I use OrangeCD with very good music management interface.

It manages its own library independent from SqueezeCenter. What I do
is right click on whatever music I want to play, and right click to
select "Play to SqueezeCenter"

Works very well.

No one on this thread has mentioned it, but I think SqueezePlay (still
in beta) is perfectly stable and usable on a netbook or small laptop.
You can get it here:

http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.3

In terms of user-interface, it's really just a magnified version of the
Squeezebox controller, but as such it would be excellent for someone who
enjoys larger font sizes.

Great application for looking through or showing off your music

I too have older eyes (the rest of me is much younger ;-) )and a 9 inch
netbook. I don't use it regularly for my SB interface, but when I do I
find the browser UI perfectly satisfactory. Forgive me for mentioning
the obvious, but I trust you do know the size of the text in browsers
can be increased with "CTRL +" ?

If such a large screen is too small for you to use, how do you manage
to use the remote control units that (presumably) you need for the
equipment you list? Do you use reading glasses?

Re: [slim] User Interface via a PC?

2009-07-27 Thread regalma1

I have SC loaded onto my netbook which then streams to my SB via wifi.
It has a 7" screen. I played around with different skins till I found
one that was less of a problem for my old eyes. I have my library on a
500 GB mini USB drive, which is stuck to the bottom of the netbook with
fas-tack (blue tack, museum putty). It is an all in one system. And it
is completely portable. The drive runs off of USB power. I am going to
try sticking the drive to the top of the netbook so it won't get so hot.
That should extend its life.

The Maxtor Touch4 mini runs off of a single USB port. Though they
recommend connecting to two ports for current carrying capacity. They
supply a special cable to do this. Though, like I said, it isn't needed
for this application.

The 7" screen is still a bit too small without reading glasses, but a
10" should work just great.

Re: [slim] New "Logitech MM STREAM Squeezebox Touch" spotted !!

2009-07-27 Thread Pale Blue Ego

This sounds nifty:

"There is also reported to be an infra-red presence detector that makes
the screen spring back into life as you walk up to it - always fun when
giving a demo."

And:

"Smaller updates also likely for the Boom and perhaps Receiver (the
player half of the Duet)"

Since the Boom and Receiver don't need a physical redesign, the updates
most likely will concentrate on the audio section. It makes sense for
Logitech to standardize all their players (except the Transporter) as
far as sound quality and processing ability. Doing this would bring the
whole family up to 24/96 capability.

Isn't it about time for Logitech to make a formal announcement? And
drop the prices on the current models so they have a few weeks to clear
them out?

Re: [slim] Sync Squeezebox with Winamp on remote pc

2009-07-27 Thread aubuti

AFAIK SC doesn't alter the tempo to re-sync. Instead it will jump ahead
(or back?) as needed to restore sync. It usually does this when changing
tracks, but I think it can do it mid-track now as well.

There are various sync parameters you can set in SC Settings. I think
they're under Settings > Player > Audio. Give those a try. Even though
sync'ing successfully with SqueezePlay is more likely than sync'ing with
stream.mp3 (because stream.mp3 simply doesn't sync), sync with *any*
software players like SqueezePlay or SoftSqueeze is completely hit or
miss. There is too much going on with drivers, sound cards, etc. that
are outside the control of SC. You might need to start saving for
another SB ;o)

Any way to increase the "agressiveness" of Squeezeplay to check for

It is indeed impossible to sync Winamp with a hardware player. You
could try Softsqueeze or Squeezeplay, but those have problems too
depending on OS and soundcard.

[slim] Sync Squeezebox with Winamp on remote pc

2009-07-27 Thread one11

o/

Here's my tech issue and setup:

Squeezebox on Rotel Amp, controlled by "duet" controller. Squeeze
server running on dedicated XP box. Another PC in office using the
http://musicserver:9000/stream.mp3 on winamp.

The winamp player shows up on the web interface and i can easily assign
different tracks to each player.

When trying to synch them, Squeezebox on Rotel amp sounds mute (or
stop?) and only Pc with Winamp plays.

I've fiddled with the settings to no avail, it's seems impossible to
have sync sound from both source at the same time

What am i missing here ? :)

Thx!

Hi!

I can't get the higher bitrate working (320 kbps).
It shows 192 kbps in squeezecenter.

I've dropped the file dsbridge.ini, together with DSound.dll and
lame_enc.dll in the spotify folder.

I have a premium account.

Any idea?

Everythings works perfect besides this. Thanks a lot!

[slim] duet controller problems.

2009-07-27 Thread dualist

I have a few problems with my duet controller.

- Sometimes I simply cannot work to the network and I am asked to
retry, especially if I want to switch from Squeezecenter to
Squeezenetwork.

- "Please wait" is often on the screen that results in slow response.
Turning the volume up won't happen instantly.

- Becomes unresponsive and requires the battery to be removed.

- As of today I can see no artwork.

Any ideas?
Thank you.

[slim] User Interface via a PC?

2009-07-27 Thread Ozz

I have the Ipeng app (love it) but while cool it is a bit small for
older eyes (argh) I have a Mini Laptop (Acer Aspire one) with a 10"
screen and full functionality of a wireless PC. I am really looking for
something that will look and perform like Ipeng on the PC. sorry
Squeez-Folks but your user interface is lacking ergonomic usefulness.
Small text clumbsy controls etc. Not bagging on you as your product
exceeds my wildest hopes for a Ethernet DAC. (I love my Transporter).
But in a 2 channel listening room with many thousands of dollards spent
on equipment. I would love to see Ipeng like features on a mini laptop
for control. It is much nicer than passing around my Iphone when people
want to look through the music and or control the Transporter.

Does anyone know if there is a better desktop app to control SC?

Thanks

That's about 250 euros for the SB Touch. As a comparison, the Duet is
349.00 on the Logitech website (streetprice: 212,00) and the Classic
239.00 (streetprice: 142,00).

Re: [slim] Rebuffering is ruining the Squeezebox experience

2009-07-27 Thread timmorris

The problem appeared to have been with the boom, but it is 8 feet from
the WAP. The SB3 is about 20 feet from the same WAP, and suffers no
issues. The SBR has no issues either, I had them all running over the
weekend with the volume muted. Only the Boom lost contact, which does
lend some credence to your theory. I run an iPhone, an SBC, a desktop,
laptop and two Squeezeboxes in my house, and all worked well until
upgrading to 3.3.3

There's no issue with interference - we live on a 2.5 acre plot and all
the insulation is foil backed so RF doesn't enter or leave the building.
I do have 3WAPs but they are evenly spread along the available spectrum
and well spread through the building.

I did upgrade to 3.3.4 last night and I haven't had a recurrence of the
problem, so there does appear to be an issue with 3.3.3 and streaming
performance.

You're right, there's indeed a MAC Address Control option. It's

[slim] Zapping through radio stations?

2009-07-27 Thread perstromgren

Whenever you want to see if there is something on the TV, you sit down
with your TV remote in hand, switch the unit on, and hits P+ (or
whatever the button is labled on your set) repeatedly to watch channel
after channel.

To do the same thing with radio channels through the SB3, you select
Favorites, then Down, Play, Down, Play, etc. Is it possible to avoid the
need for hitting Play every time?

I had problems of this nature over the past couple of days.

I logged out of and back into my account via Squeezenetwork.

I then navigated to the station via Music Services > Other > Live 365 >

I then was able to play the station in question via the Favorites entry

I'm not sure why all this was necessary.

That kind of error is always possible, but I don't believe that was the
problem. When I started trying to fix things yesterday the sb's were on
dhcp. I switched to manual ip on a different (free) ip address with no
improvement.

When I get home from work, I'll try changing the gateway back on one of
the players to see if the problem returns. I'll let you know the result.

There are mechanism to block access by IP but not by MAC. The IP address
of the SB doesn't change when the packets are routed over the server.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox + Draytek router: No Internet radio

2009-07-27 Thread bpa

For internet radio - SB has to be able to set up a connection to
internet without using SC whereas local music comes through SC. By
routing through PC it is possible you using some PC settings/config in
preference to router.

A DNS config error or IP/Mac blocking on router could also cause this
issue.

1. For DNS or other IP issues - write for all devices (SB, router, WAP
and PCs) DNS address, IP address, Gateway Address and network Mask.
Check they are all consistent. One user had a similar problem and it
turned out for testing they had manually configured a DNS address on a
player and then forgot until months later when problems happened.

2. For IP/Mac blocking - Check whether router has any security
mechanisms to block/restrict access to internet.

Weird. I can't think of any other cause though. One of the SB3's is
connected via wifi, the other is wired, the WAP is connected to the
Draytek router via a Linksys switch, the wired SB3 is directly connected
to the switch. Both had the same gateway set up. I'm using a
non-standard ip-range (172.22.22.1/24) but I can't imagine that being a
problem.

The Linux server (172.22.22.100) has a wired connection to the switch as
well. So when I changed the gateway on the SB's from 172.22.22.1 to
172.22.22.100 everything started working.

What else could explain this?

Peter

If your Boom is going from 99% signal to a 20% signal then you have a
serious WiFi issue going on here.
Possibly some major interference near by? Neighbor running a microwave
tower?
20% WiFi signal would certainly see buffering issues, on most any
streaming device.

Or maybe just a typo? :)

Who am I on 'LAST.FM' (http://www.last.fm/user/siduhe)?

it's good... got the odd dodgy track tho...-" (c) 'ModelCitizen'

Oh yeah, I'm giving 'Twitter' (http://twitter.com/Siduhe) a try - and
surprising myself how many interesting people are out there...

+1 from me, i'm sure you could sell it on the Ovi store

The handheld skin is quite difficult to use on my N97 without zooming
in all the time, I can't figure out the N770 skin and iPeng doesn't work
for some reason.

Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify

2009-07-27 Thread chp

Just did a small bugfix release that should fix a crash that could occur
when forwarding or at the end of a track:

http://dsbridge.googlecode.com/files/dsbridge-20090727-bin.zip

I haven't been able to spend much time on this project currently, but
I'll revisit it shortly. Things I'll be looking at:

- Audio resampling (didn't know ads were encoded in mono, I don't get
any for some reason)
- Exposing application playback controls through HTTP API
- Support for more encoders (FLAC and Ogg Vorbis)
- Linux compatibility (If possible, haven't looked at why Wine isn't
loading the DLL yet)

Re: [slim] Squeezebox + Draytek router: No Internet radio

2009-07-27 Thread mmca22gr

I have a similar setup. Vigor 2900 with SC running on a Windows Vista
box.
I don't have any route issues and can listen to BBC iPlayer and NApster
with no problems.
