[slim] Squeezeplay for Mac?

2010-02-19 Thread oivindi

I tried to get some simple answers using search, but had a hard time
finding one.

So, is Squeezeplay available for Mac and Snow Leopard?

I find no Mac version under nightly 7.4 builds.

Do I have to compile it myself, or is available as a standalone?

[slim] Can squeezebox detect/remove Hidden Track

2010-02-19 Thread trouty00

Ok, so I'm happily listening to a random mix of songs when squeezebox
queues up a track with a hidden track in it which basically gives me 7
minutes of silence which is very annoying?

Is there anything I can do about this apart from either deleting said
track from the disk or manually splitting the track up?

Cheers
Stu

Re: [slim] Can squeezebox detect/remove Hidden Track

Squeezebox Server/Center can't help you with this, it is best done at
the point of ripping/encoding the disc. Some rippers will cut out large
chunks of silence for you.

I tend to just leave them in, so I can listen to the album as intended.
There are only about a dozen tracks in my library that have big
silences.

[slim] Boom or Radio for childrens room

2010-02-19 Thread Letten

Hi,

I can't make up my mind, what is best suited for young children, Boom,
Radio?

At the moment my daughter (age 8) is using a Boom in her room and soon
I want to equip my sons room (he's 4).

My daughter uses presets for favorit radio and playlists, sometimes she
also uses the navigation to find music although multiple libraries would
be a help (I'm crossing my fingers for next version).

My son will only use presets or someone else will help him find the
music he wants to listen to.

I wonder if the color screen of the Radio would help them or just make
things more complicated.

And, is the mono-sound good enough to fill a small room (13m3) ? I
havn't heard the Radio yet.

Any ideas? comments?

Cheers,
Letten

Re: [slim] iPeng on iPad - How should it look like?

2010-02-19 Thread trouty00

you could set it up completely like windows media player with the three
panels type environment (library, now playing artwork, playlist) but
rather than the traditional media player library options on the left the
user would select from a drop down what they want to show up in that
frame, ie favs, artists, napster, basically the same options as what you
get on the touch app with the quick options on the bottom and these can
be edited as like on the touch/iphone.

then have current now playing screen in the middle frame but instead of
swiping left and right you swipe up and down to get to the sync page,
then on the right hand side you can simply have a playlist.

when the user selects one of the options from the drop down on the left
panel the info shows up there,

then you can have a screensaver option which shows just the artwork or
maybe fanart.

also utilise any physical keys you can especially for the volume
control if it has them.

just a bit of brainstorming

It also does not have native flac.

It requires server side transcoding for a lot of formats. Which sends
full PCM data over the link. The SB1 also has a much smaller buffer, so
WiFi dropouts are frequent when sending transcoded streams.

I use Dynamic Playlists to do random playlists, and I have an extensive
list of filters to eliminate based on Genre, Artist or even specific

designate long silences would then differentiate those tracks from
something that is just plain long.

For preschool operation album art is the killer feature that should make
you choose the Radio IMO.

If you can get a combo of plugins to allow all albums of genre:Children
be shown by the click of a preset-button, the kid can choose his music
based on the way the album cover looks like. I know my 3½ year old knows
lots of albums by the look of the cover.

By the way, if you get that working, please post the method here. I
would like that kind of functionality, but I haven't really bothered

[slim] Wrong bitrate reported for Apple lossless (M4a)?

Hi,

Dont quite know where the problem is located, but if I look at an Apple

it is reported with wrong bitrate. For example I see 177kbps but looking

Why is that? Is that an error or doesnt the server deliver the file in

Re: [slim] Rebuffering is ruining the Squeezebox experience

2010-02-19 Thread kunlun121

Me too...

Having just moved into a new house, rebuffering problems started
occurring. Because the new house is much larger than the old one, I
couldn't suffice with a single wireless access point. With my laptop in
the room where my stereo is I couldn't pick up the signal of the
wireless router, that was wired to my server. So I invested in new
hardware.

I am now using a wired network with one of the fastest wired routers on
the market (Draytek Vigor 2130). A very powerful wireless access point
is wired to this router. I mean, if a pigeon flies by too close to it,
it's likely to disappear in a puff of feathers. Signal strength on my
Squeezebox Duet is indicated to be high (around or over 90% when no
other wireless devices are present in the room, dropping to 75-80% when
my wife's watching TV on her laptop over the wireless).

Still, I am having problems with rebuffering. It's so bad that it's
impossible to listen to music over the squeezebox. It starts after about
20 seconds into the first track and it's downhill from there: nothing
but interruptions, hiccups, and stuttering. Sometimes the squeezebox
can't even connect to my squeezeserver's library.

I play uncompressed aiff files (regular 16bit/44.1KHz encoded). The
squeezebox's network tester indicates a clean 100% bandwidth @ 5000kbps
on the Duet's handset. In the performance menu the priority of the
squeezebox has been set at -20 (highest).

The home network (both the wired machines and the ones connected
wirelessly to the access point) allows for very high download speeds
over my cable internet connection. Wired and wireless I can download
files from the internet at a stable 46Mbit/s. So data is flowing quite
effortlessly.

I haven't read all 16 pages of this thread, so forgive me if I'm
writing stuff that's already been covered. But I get the feeling that
the problem is related to latency in my network. The new router provides
for all sorts of QoS and bandwidth management mechanisms, port
prioritizing, etc. Don't know how to turn it all off or if it's even
impacting the flow of bits.

Oh, I'm on OSX snow leopard and running squeezebox server 7.4.1. My
receiver has firmware 65.

No solution, but will keep looking.

[slim] SlimCtrl 1.3 out now

2010-02-19 Thread Locuth

Hello Everybody

SlimCtrl 1.3 is out and available for download on my web site.
To those of you who are familiar with SlimCtrl the most prominent new
features are:

- Wake-On-Lan(*)
- Auto Server discover (unless a server is already configured)
- Lyrics and snchronized Lyrics ( Karaoke - if you will)
- Players on SN are listed in the player list and may be
- More icons in the browser; radio stations, flickr, facebook
- IR-Blaster compatible volume control

- A couple of bugs and many minor grahics issues fixed
- Improved power managment and faster wakeup from standby.

To those of new to SlimCtrl:
It's is a windows mobile based remote control for Squeezebox Server.
Proven to work with PDA's and smartphones running WM 2003 ... WM 6.5.

There is a manual available for download on the download page.
It's not up to date but I'll give you the idea.

Or you just give it a try - it's pretty inuitive.

*) To activate WOL for already configured server:
Hit the test button in the settings once. If the server is behind a
router you'll probably get a notice that WOL will not work.

Re: [slim] How do I export an iTunes playlist for use with SC?

2010-02-19 Thread Kyle

This program works well; however, my iTunes tracks are in the format 01
Track Name while my SB playlists are 01 - Track Name. The only
options for rectifying this that I can think of are to manually change
each one or do a search/replace for each number 01 through whatever the
highest track number exists in the playlist. Is there an easier way
that I haven't thought of?
