Re: [slim] Announce: New Squeezeslave 0.9 Release available on sourceforge
Hi folks. I am playing around with squeezeslave ( 0.9-140 svn pull) on Linux Alsa 1.0.22.1 No idea if below has been discussed before. 2Qs. 1. Is there a way to assign different names/ids to squeezeslave if I got more than one slave in the network? If I run more than one slave ( different machines) in the network they can't be distinguished and share the same database. This should not be possible at all anyhow. Would be really nice to be able to assign dedicated IDs of choice to each slave in the network. 2. Alsa output Is there a way to choose between plughw and hw on the output option -o? Currently it is not clear what squeezeslave is doing here. I do understand that -l shows all available outputs - as defined on asound.conf or asound.rc. It would be really nice to have a pretty simple output option as done with e.g. aplay -D plughw:0,0 || hw:0,0. 99% of all Linux player allow that direct routing selection. Re: [slim] For Sale?
While the idea has some merit, a normal forum is a pretty poor platform for running ads, often requiring a lot of moderation effort. When not entered through a template like on proper advertising sites, ads tend to lack vital information (contact details, location, shipping options etc). And if posting replies is possible it regularly leads to heated discussions on the requested price, sometimes questioning the mental status of the seller or just as often those who object to the requested price. Or other pointless discussions in general. Maybe a matter of definition, but I think a line in your sig with a link to an eBay auction or similar would not be violating the forum rules and work pretty well. Active posters would get more exposure, thus rewarding teh regular contributors in the community. -- alfista alfista's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32396 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76652 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Connecting two rooms to one SB3?
I currently have two SB3 units - one in the living room and another in the bedroom. I'd like to have the music in my study synced to the rest of the house, but I've given up on getting SoftSqueeze to sync properly. I don't want to buy another SB3, so the only alternative I can think of is to connect the SB3 in my bedroom to the receiver in the study using a long (~5M cable). I'd be happy to get some advise on which of the following options would be best: 1. Connect the RCA line-out of the SB3 to an RCA splitter, and then have two pairs of cables connected to each receiver (the one in the bedroom and the one in the study). 2. Connect the first receiver using RCA and the second one using either of the two digital line-outs in the SB3 (optical and coaxial). 3. Connect the SB3 to the bedroom receiver and then use one of the receiver's RCA out ports to connect it to the receiver in the study. Note that I intend to keep the SB3 in the bedroom, because I can control the SqueezeBox server from the PC in the study. I'd be happy to hear about any alternative options that don't require buying another SB3. I have no trouble using a Toslink or Coax over that distance especially if the second receiver has its own DAC. Also there would be no Sync issues as both receivers would be playing the same exact input material. The drawback here is actually not being able to play different SBS streams on these two receivers, it will always be the same music. I don't like the RCA splitter idea for a number of reasons. [slim] SLIMP3 popping sound between tracks?
Hello all- Just recently purchased my second Slimp3 for audio distribution to the back bedroom. Plugged it in, sync'ed to my server and started listening merrily away. Device seems to be in very good condition, etc. However, I have a problem: between tracks there is a slight popping sound, a small click or burst of at least one, sometimes two. Almost as if someone is dropping the needle on a turntable. The sound is not as loud as the output and sounds faintly like a amp popping on power up, power down. Seems to do it with every track change, though I don't always notice it. It's not enough to warrant sending it back to the seller, but it is a minor annoyance. Any thoughts? Re: [slim] SB3 bricked? (perpetual reboot)
I haven't read the whole thread yet, but this sounds an awful lot like a bad power supply or power related circuit to me. I've seen this behavior before with other sorts of consumer electronics - the device powers on, demands a larger amount of current than supplied. Capacitors in the power circuits can keep it afloat for a while, but it eventually runs out of juice and shuts down. Then the capacitors charge again, supplying current for the device to start up again. Especially considering how your squeezebox stayed on for shorter and shorter times before a reboot, I'd suspect something in the power supply or power regulation in the Squeezebox itself. -- gnnash gnnash's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36644 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69553 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] SB3 bricked? (perpetual reboot)
I yanked the wireless card's daughter board and applied powernothing, not even the Toslink lights up. When I put the board back in the same behavior repeatsLogitech logo.Squeezebox logo.blank...approx 10 secs elapsesLogitech logo...etc. ad nauseum. I asked the Logitech support email guy if they would sell me the parts to fix it since its out of warranty, when he mentioned it may be a memory module. I would like to buy a new wireless daughter board just to see if that would fix it and I'm wondering if that my be what he referred to as the memory module. We shall see what they say. Suggestions welcome. Re: [slim] SB3 bricked? (perpetual reboot)
I think we need to make a sticky of this problem of dead/continuously rebooting SB2s/SB3s/Classics. There are at least 4 other threads that discuss this or a similar problem. If we have everyone clearly list their problems in a single thread, we might be able to find a solution, and make it easier for future sufferers as well.
