Re: [slim] Announce: Album Catalog Creator v3

2010-05-27 Thread SilverRS8

yorknh;550789 Wrote:
Is there a way to reduce the number of columns to 1 when creating the
full catalog? Some of the classical music track names are exceptionally
long and line wrapping makes it difficult to read. It would be worse if
I were to try to print, which I would like to do, but aside from just
not looking good, it wastes a lot of space.

Also, in the quick reference, if you sort by artist and display genre,
there isn't enough space between genre and the next field whether that
 be year or codec.

I'm sorry to say that single column mode is not supported or has been a
demand for. This among the display of composer etc would belong to the
set of features for ACC to properly support classical music. This
requires a lot of coding which I cannot justify by the demand, time
required and funding.
My focus on short time will be on supporting ACC on the upcomming
version of SBS making the jump to SQlite instead of MySQL.

[slim] Can't connect to BBC radio from outside UK

2010-05-27 Thread mberger

Hi - I'm on holiday in Europe using local wifi connections to listen to
internet radio via my laptop and Boom. All works well - except I can't
get any BBC stations on the Boom using either the native SS 'Internet
Radio' links or the iPlayer plugin. I get a message reading
'connecting' then 'stopped.' The streams play fine directly on the
laptop using BBC iPlayer, so I guess I must have a server setting wrong
somewhere. Has anyone got any ideas?

2010-05-27 Thread JonWill

As i understand it (and I am no expert here!) thee are low bit rate
(56kbps) versions of the streams that work outside the UK. Your Boom
favorites are probably set to the BBC iplayer 128kbps streams, which
won't play - if you navigate to the BBC through the Radio Stations menu
you should be OK.

iPlayer on your laptops knows where you are and is playing the
appropriate streams. You wioll not have access to plauy it agan
outside the UK ...

Hope this helps.

Re: [slim] Can't connect to BBC radio from outside UK

2010-05-27 Thread bpa

BBC iPlayer plugin will work outside the UK if you go down through the
menus. Favorites will be using UK only URLs.

There are no MP3 streams outside UK only WMA and Flash/AAC so if you
have set the plugin to play MP3 streams only - it will fail. Your best
chance is with WMA.

Make sure you are up to date with BBC iPlayer plugin / applet as there
were problems last week that needed a plugin update.

The My Apps/BBC will also play WMA live streams.

Yes, the iPlayer pluggin works outside UK. I use it every day in
Cyprus.

BBC Radio will play outside UK from the iPlayer screen on a computer,
BBC TV is not available.

iPlayer TV is available outside UK if you use a VPN agent to make
iPlayer think you are in UK. I use

https://www.my-private-network.co.uk/

£5 per month.

I am watching BBC News as I type.

I guess Spotify could be made to work outside UK via VPN. I have not
tried.

[slim] Squeezebox server will not scan/My Squeezebox.com

2010-05-27 Thread TheCapn

I have been having a few problems with SB server and MySqueezebox.com.

The server will not scan my playlists or collection.I have downloaded
the server software several times to remedy this but now even this
fails to address the problem.

Another problem is that listening to Internet radio via
mysqueezebox.com is that it is constantly buffering. I had thought it
was my ISP but it does not buffer when the server is running.

I have had SB3 for 3 years now and have found it exasperating at times,
but have stuck with it, but find these problems maddening. I am running

[slim] Browser Playback

2010-05-27 Thread daHugi

Hi there,

don't know if it has already been discussed, but I haven't found any
thread so far.

I was just wondering, wouldn't it be possible to achieve a browser
playback of the library.
Whenever I show squeezebox server to somebody, the problem of
installing squeezeplay on the computer before being able to listen to
music is too complicate for most.

So my idea: with the advance of HTML5, wouldn't it be possible to
integrate a client into the squeezeboxserver control center?

Re: [slim] Browser Playback

2010-05-27 Thread toby10

I find they are more amazed when you use a laptop to log into your SBS
server computer and commence playback of playlists on the actual
hardware player.
This way you are utilizing the full SBS UI, not just a software
player.
More importantly, you are demonstrating what SqueezeBox is really all
about the hardware. ;)

I prefer Community SoftSqueeze. It is a plugin. You may have to check
the display all 3rd party plugins to see it.

It installs itself in the Extras on the home menu. When you select it,
installation takes only a few seconds. The player computer must have
Java installed but the install procedure can take care of that also.

Sometimes getting Squeezeplay working is harder than Chinese
arithmetic..

Hi,

I run my primary music server on linux but I also have several WHS
servers that I use as a backup and use the windows command line tool
called robocopy to keep everything in sync. I have it scheduled in a

run my robocopy batch file to do yet another backup. Yes I'm paranoid!
I've spent literally years ripping and tagging my collection.

As already stated RAID != backup

No, SqueezePlay doesn't need to be on the same box as SBS -- that would
be extremely limiting. Maybe it's connected to MySB.com. Have you tried
connecting to SBS from SP, as opposed to waiting for SBS to find the SP
player? Use My Music Switch Library.

I have an SB3 that for a long time would take 10-20 minutes for the

Is it out of warranty? Slim Devices used to do out-of-warranty repairs
for a flat $90, and Logitech continued that for quite a while after the
corporate buyout, but no longer. Someone recently posted that Logitech
offered them 50% off a new SB if they sent back their dead SB3, so you

Re: [slim] What backup software

I'm a pre_gui kind'a guy.

I have only 300GB of lossless m4a's.

I use the /D parameter to copy only newer files (which is the default)

A couple of cheap USB drives reside-off-site.

The main library (music + else) is rsynch'ed between two NFS raids to
prevent multiple drive failures (and to speed primary recovery.)

I also take care of another 450 GB by maintaining a copy on the raids
and another off-site on an external USB.

p

The best advice: It took a long time to get this done. Don't feel bad
about using a belt, suspenders, and safety-pinning your top clothes to
your bottom clothes
