It would be nice if there was a serious solution. No dealing with only
 things missing, screwing around, etc.

There are many more things missing than a cron job - how do you mount
the SB Touch, how does it get power, where do you put the storage?

I have no real interest in having a SB player in my car, and there
would certainly be many hurdles to overcome to even begin to make this
work correctly.
But the storage issue would be no big problem. I've had a 160gb USB HD
in my car for years, going to a USB enabled Pioneer head unit.
The HD is very simplistically mounted under the dash on the passenger
side, slides right out when I need to add music.
These days it is difficult to find a car head unit that does *not* have
USB. ;)

What amazes me about any institution that streams online is that it
seems they themselves are the last to know of their own problem.
I can kind of understand a station like your basic AM/FM station where
your internet audience is a fraction of your terrestrial audience not
closely monitoring their stream.
But an internet only business? Your entire existence is internet
streaming and you do not monitor your own streams? Just seems odd to
me.

I'm guessing your basic AM or FM or even TV terrestrial stations do not
rely solely on someone calling them to tell them they are off the air?

Have you read this:
http://penguinlovesmusic.de/2011/02/11/coolios-guide-to-remote-playback/

The two important aspects are:
1. Port 3483 must be open for TCP
2. both ports 3483 and 9000 MUST be the same ports that you are using
internally in your network (so you can't redirect port 9000 to port
8000 or something similar).

[slim] Is there a Windows application to control a Squeezebox?

2011-03-07 Thread Bert003

Hi,

I am looking for a Windows application to control my SC and SB's.
I am a happy iPeng user and I have seen an iPad app with the playlist
and browse window together in 1 screen. And that worked very
comfortable, always have you playlist visible while browsing the
database and adding music with drag and drop.

I don't like the SC web interface very much because I find it veryslow
and it doesn't support drag and drop.

I already tried Moose but it gave playback problems on my system
(stuttering playback).

Well, I tried it and first I had problems to update Moose's database. I
got an errormessage. I don't remember how I got around that, but later
I got the same message about firewall's etc. Also with the firewall
turned off I got this error. It should just work since all my
squeezeboxes are working, also softsqueeze and squeezeplay.

And then there is this problem that the playback stops or stutters
while using Moose. A few years ago it worked, but not anymore.

[slim] Couldn't find DHCP server problem hits one SB3 but not the other

2011-03-07 Thread t-chok

I have one SB3 running in the family room, no problems, for the past 2
years, and another SB3 running in the kitchen for the past 6 months,
also running with no problems. Both are connected wirelessly via an
ActionTec MI424-WR router installed by Verizon when we got Fios 2 years
ago. About 2 weeks ago, we had 2 brief (less than 1 minute each) power
outages. After this power outage, the kitchen SB3 won't work.
Instead, during setup it now always gets to a point where it displays a
message Couldn't find DHCP server. The family room SB3 continues to
work fine.

I have since done a factory reset multiple times, first to the
non-working kitchen SB3, then to both SB3's, then I did a factory reset
of the router and both SB3's to rebuild the network from scratch. Same
result: Family room SB3 works fine, kitchen SB3 displays the DHCP
message.

I don't believe this is a problem with the DHCP server on the router,
since the family room SB3 and my laptop encounter no trouble getting
the DHCP server to assign an IP address, and when I connect the kitchen
SB3 directly (via ethernet cable) to the router, the DHCP server assigns
it an IP and it works fine.

Pardon my ignorance on this issue, but is it possible that the power
outage occurred just as some type of write was occurring in my kitchen
SB3? How could this power outage have affected the DHCP wireless
communication for just the one SB3?

Thanks for any help. Here are some details:

SBS: 7.5.3 - r31792
firmware: 132
Windows XP
Router: ActionTec MI424-WR Rev. E (Verizon Fios installed)

Tim

I've been giving this some thought lately as well.

What I'd like to see, and what Logitech certainly aren't likely to
offer, is a device which presents itself as an iPod so that I can use
the iPod connectivity functionality in my head unit to navigate the
local installation of SBS, which would be rsync-ed back to the main
library if my home wireless access point was available at the time the
ignition was switched off, before it powered itself down.

I've seen some reverse-engineered documentation on the iPod interface
so I might take a look and see how easy it would be to implement on a
little micro, as the remainder of the solution would be quite
straightforward.

I run SBS on an atom based server and have the db and cache in memory

I don't regard this as fast, but acceptable.
You might, too - hence this comment.

comfortable, always have you playlist visible while browsing the
database and adding music with drag and drop.

I don't like the SC web interface very much because I find it veryslow
and it doesn't support drag and drop.

I already tried Moose but it gave playback problems on my system
 (stuttering playback).

If the webUI is slow, it's because your SBS machine is slow. Your first
paragraph says you already have a solution. Of course that contradicts
your second paragraph.

How well do you read?

[slim] New Logitech forum is unreadable

2011-03-07 Thread rkeeney

I just tried to navigate to the new Logitech forum site:
http://forums.logitech.com/

Please! Who chose light blue text on white background? Even boosting
the magnification I can't read the text well enough against the
background without squinting. Sorry, I won't be using that site for any
support questions until/unless the readability is improved.

Just my 2 cents!

If you like it to change, make a single post in their forum and say
exactly what you said here. No one from Logitech who can do something
about the problem will spot your complaints here.

Re: [slim] Couldn't find DHCP server problem hits one SB3 but not the other

2011-03-07 Thread t-chok

I tried the xilinx (1) reset to no effect. I previously had also
tried the unplugging routine for both the router and SB3 (without
factory reset) to no effect. Just tried it again without success.

The SB3 does indicate that it has connected to the server, but then
when it goes to obtain an IP address via DHCP it fails with the
Couldn't find DHCP server error message.

How could the timing of a power outage have affected the DHCP
communications this way, and for only 1 of my 2 SB3's?

Would it help to upgrade / re-install the firmware for that SB3? I'm
using version 132 now.

Thanks!

Tim

Re: [slim] Need help pointing towards itunes

2011-03-07 Thread fortitude.five

First off, thanks a ton for sticking with me on this. My music is
actually super organized by music/lossless, music/24bit, music/lossy so
I'm good to go there.

I've isolated it down to one major problem that is giving me a real run
for my money and I'm hoping that it can be resolved.

If I go into music/lossless/random artist, all tracks have 01, 02, 03
etc before them and sort correctly.

But, I also have many artists and albums that do not have the numbers
in the track name. On these albums, when listening through the music
folder, SBS sorts the tracks alphabetically which is driving me nuts.
They are all have proper tagging. Why can't SBS read the tagging?

If you can help me figure this out without going in and adding numbers
in the track titles for 1000's of tracks, I'll send you a present, I
swear :)
