Re: [slim] New versions of Squeezecenter don't like large collections-?

2012-01-26 Thread pippin

Well, I believe in any case LMS is not too bad.

Sonos, for example, maxes out at 65.000 tracks, 1/8th of that library.
DLNA servers like Twonky can easily handle more but they provide almost
no intelligence so the software using the library has to do a lot more
processing and now how many embedded devices like players or
controllers are able to handle such a library well?

Good question. Do some of the large library users do have experience on
using DNLA devices with their library?

[slim] Internet radio - Cant resolve IP address message

2012-01-26 Thread andrewlea

My duet is no longer able to resolve IP addresses when trying to connect
to radio stations stored on my favourites via the controller using the
library on my PC. I have to switch library to mysqueezebox.com in order
to play the radio stations. The URL's are correct because they are all
in the same Favourites list. What am I doing wrong?

I'd start with rebooting router (unplug) and computer running LMS.

Re: [slim] Logitech Airplay Speaker

2012-01-26 Thread Soulkeeper

As the device already has 802.11 and Ethernet, adding support for LMS
must surely be a simple matter of firmware.

Which should be cheap enough for us to expect them to actually do so.

Re: [slim] Block settings to kids - Parental control

2012-01-26 Thread Iggurk

Hi all,

Thanks all for your reply.

At the end I see no real solution.

I would like to have parental control especially to avoids kids to play
with settings.
I've tried the approach you proposed (you break it you fix it), but at
the end I've to solve the issue, and after ten time I'm tired. ;-)

Could also be interesting to :
- Be able to block certain radios (inappropriate content/language)
- Be able to block access to certain tracks/directories (seems feasible
but still complex).
- Being able to limit radio usage depending defined time range

Re: [slim] Block settings to kids - Parental control

2012-01-26 Thread aubuti

Just my two cents worth...

If you've tried you break it you fix it ten times already and they
still don't get the message then it seems to me that they are not yet
capable of dealing with something like an SB Radio (or they have a
peculiar sense of fun). Try replacing it with a standard AM/FM radio
until they are ready for an SB.

On your others:
- for blocking access to certain tracks in your own music library, see
Erland's Multi-Library plugin

- for limiting certain radio stations or setting time ranges, you may
be able to do something with your router. It all depends on your router
model, or more precisely, the firmware installed. Some have facilities
for setting time ranges and restricting addresses. For example, the
Tomato firmware on my Linksys WRT54GL router can set restrictions for
specific devices on the network based on time, web site, etc. See
http://r3dux.org/2009/12/how-to-block-access-to-specific-websites-from-your-router-using-tomato-firmware/

Re: [slim] Announce: Whitebear Media Server v2.2 Released

2012-01-26 Thread Mike C

Hi Andrew, thank you for the great extension to SB - just donated.

I recently starting having a problem with UPnP. My control points see
WhiteBear and can control players BUT there is no feedback from
Whitebear. Using the Intel Dev Tools, I can invoke actions and get
response but LastChange events do not seem to be generated or are
something has gone wrong the network - what else would you need to
trouble shoot.

Small question.

I use Inguz Audio's plugin with LMS. Is it possible with Whitebear to
stream the processed signal by Inguz Audio plugin to UPNP streaming
clients?

Thanks for the donation.

Concerning no feedback from Whitebear, I need to understand more
about your real problem...

Many UPnP AV devices receive the incoming control commands, and
immediately reflect back a virtual state change in LastChange that
reflect what that command ought to have achieved.

But Whitebear tries to reflect the actual physical state changes of the
players. So, for example if a CP sends a stop command to Whitebear, then
Whitebear forwards that stop command to the Squeeze player; but if the
player is already in a stopped state, then no actual state change
occurs, and so no LastChange event is triggered. And the other way
round, if you start the Squeeze player by means of its local control
buttons, then a LastChange event will be sent to the CP (so long as the
CP has subsribed to the eventing system), even though the CP did not
issue that play command itself.

So can you please be more specific about what is not working for you,
and under what circumstances?

Try out Whitebear. The middleware that joins the two worlds of:
1. UPnP/DLNA media clients and media players, and,
2. Squeezebox Server and Squeeze Players

[slim] Old versions of server still available?

I'm thinking of rolling back my server software to a SB3-era version.
I'm looking for the version just BEFORE album art support was added.
Are these old versions still around somewhere?
