[slim] My new Anthem MRX amp is delaying the audio breaking SB sync
Apologies if this is an old one. I've replaced an ageing Arcam AV amp with an Anthem MRX300 for my main system. The Arcam had an analogue bypass for music playing and I was happily syncing multiple SB systems in the house. The Anthem, being a fancy computer, has introduced a delay in the audio and I'm wondering if there are ways to compensate in the SB sync software. Can I delay the other players to get them all in line? I'm sending Flac over optical to the Anthem from a Touch and using ARC but the delay was there before ARC was setup. Am I just going to have put up with it or start using the Zone 2 output? (any suggestions to go pre-power at this point will be answered by my bank manager, besides which I love the ARC sound) gvh's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1879 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98043 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Thank you. If this disappears from archive.org too, here are the steps : Instructions for Using Foobar2000 to send music to your Logitech SqueezeBox or Transporter (Windows Only) With thanks to Marae for the original AutoIt script posted on HyrdogenAudio. 1. Download and install the latest Foobar2000 (it should work with versions higher than v0.9x) 2. Download and install AMIP for Foobar2000 : http://amip.tools-for.net/wiki/amip/download#amip 3. Download FooSQ from wherever you can find it Note: this is a unicode binary, so it only works in Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7. 4. Unzip the FooSQ.exe file and put it somewhere easy to access - you'll need to run this file after you run Foobar2000 in order to control your Logitech devices within Foobar2000. 5. Run Foobar2000, go to File Preferences Display Default User Interface Look for the box that says Window Title Delete whatever is there and replace it with this (exactly): %path%/%playback_time_remaining_seconds%/%ispaused%/%playback_time_seconds%/ Hit the Apply button. Do not hit OK yet. 6. In the same menu, go to Tools AMIP Wrapper Click on Configure AMIP On the right hand side check the box that says Write song info to file. In the box underneath that says File: enter this exactly: C:\nextsong.txt In the box underneath that says Play: enter this exactly: $next(%fn) Hit the OK button, hit OK again in AMIP Wrapper. 7. You're ready to go. Make sure SqueeezeBox server is running. Find where you put FooSQ.exe and run it. 8. Play music. The sound from FooSQ will be a second or so behind the playback on your computer, so you may want to turn off your computer speakers. 9. I've hardcoded a global volume control which will work provided FooSQ is running no matter what application is on your screen. Use the numeric keypad: + key to increase volume - key to decrease volume * key will mute playback (use + key to turn it back on) 10. Enjoy! If you lose the connection between Foobar2000 and FooSQ, just run FooSQ again and restart playback in Foobar2000. mll's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79575 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

erland wrote: I'm not sure if I'm missing something but using an USB DAC that isn't as good as the built-in DAC doesn't make sense to me. Based on what I've understood the built-in DAC is going to be really good and in that case I think we only need to consider users with high-end external DACs. However, support for UAC2 is of course still important if we are targeting high-end audiophile users who have high-end external DACs. *Flexibility*, *future-proofing*, and audiphools who already have a $$ high-end USB DAC. I don't see it as being only for the audiophools. Whatever JS comes up with for the stock on-board DAC, (even if he had an unlimited budget), might be cutting edge now, but it doesn't mean that it will be in 2 years time. Like it or not, UAC2 is a standard. It has already gained traction in the market place. Any computer based audio player that sports a USB port needs to be capable of it. Going forward we are going to see more DAC's with USB interfaces, to the point where every external DAC has a USB port, but not necessarily a SPDIF or HDMI port. Opinion, maybe.. But I look around and talk to people, the question that is being asked by people buying a stand-alone DAC is, does it have USB input? (And again we are not talking exclusively about people I would class as audiophile.) The bottom line and the irony is, it's the low-end where production cost is the #1 manufacturer concern, that are likely to see the removal of inputs other than USB, way before the high-end considers dropping those interfaces, while they are still shifting product to users that have standalone transports with SPDIF outputs, or the traditionalists who don't consider that any audio that involves a computer can be high-end. Every computer has a USB port. Not every computer has SPDIF or HDMI output. It is already the lowest common denominator. For anyone doubting the wisdom of needing to make UAC2 output capability at least as high a priority as any other on any computer/network based audio player, (commercial or hobbiest), now matter how good the on-board audio is, I think you are making a mistake. Of course, that is only my opinion and WTF do I know. Only needed for full speeds uac devices (class 1) on arm SoC which have a restricted TT - Touch, CuBox and serveral others all show this limitation. In this case the TT can do split transactions, but from hacking the ehci scheduler on Touch I've shown that it doesn't support a inbound and outbound iso split transaction in the same 1ms frame. [which given that uac1 devices normally ask for 1 outbound packet per ms causes a big problem for async usb - this causes what we see with Touch, the async feedback mechanism doesn' work unless we add on an external hub]. It looks like its a cost cutting optimisation of the ehci implementation which is normally no problem, but causes async dacs a problem. Re: [slim] Community Funded Squeezebox Replacement - Would you be interested?
If the wandboard is viable for us, I'm thinking about doing a Gen0.5, this is a quick and dirty carrier board with: DAC chip TOSLINK, 2 USB jacks (one for host only and one for OTG) ethernet, serial port I will make just three of these by hand, keep one and send the others to Triode and probably JackOfAll. The purpose of this is to test out the USB interface and get a linux image working with Squeezelite so we have something to put in the SD card slot for Gen1. I'm putting DAC and S/PDIF on the board in hopes that we can get these working as well during the 0.5 phase. Since wandboard already has a codec using I2S and S/PDIF working my hope is that getting these to work will not be a big issue. The only issue I can for see is that I will have the two audio clocks on the board and a clock mux, somehow we need to get the processor to select the clock frequency based on the sample rate. I'm going to connect the mux up to one of the GPIOs on the connector and hope we can figure out how to control it. While this software phase is going on I can work on the Gen1 design with all the features allready discussed. Since HDMI is already on the EDM I might just go ahead and put it on the board. This i when we really need to talk about board size, connector placement etc. Hopefully by the time these boards are ready phase 0.5 will have produced an SD card image that boots the system up and can play music. So for both Gen 0.5 and Gen1 the users will have to perform the following: buy a wandboard, take the module off of the supplied carrier and install it in our board. download an SD card image and copy it onto a micro SD card. Put this card into the wandboard module. have fun! Hopeully by the time this gets to Gen2 wandboard will be selling just the modules. Schedule: wandboard says they are releasing the schematics on Friday, I'm going to be busy all next week. The week after that I can start designing the board, this is simple so it should only take a week to get the design done. It takes two weeks to get the boards back, and then a week to assemble them. So best case is 5 weeks to get the Gen0.5 boards working. Hopefully by then a few of us can have some wandboards in hand. John S. Useful? http://www.wandboard.org/images/files/wandboard-expansion-pinheaders.png Can I ask for a summary while I'm here: Gen1 - equivalent to a Squeezebox Receiver Gen1+ - something more like a Classic or Touch? (even of the screen output is over HDMI) Also, does Squeezelite support full Classic emulation (IE: Pandora, etc)? I believe it does, as I was experimenting with a R-PI a few months ago, but checking... Unfortunetly that is the pinout of the expansion connectors on the carrier board, not of the EDM connector the processor module plugs into. On the Gens, I'm thinking that yes Gen1 is basically a receiver, no buttons, screen etc. It will have a web server for configuration purposes and controling can be done with existing controlers on other devices. I may actually put a HDMI interface on it. The primary purpose of this is to get it out to developers and a few users to work out what needs to be there and getting it as close as possible to a plug and play solution. Gen2 was the release version with a box all ready to go to a larger audience. Because the wandboard core already has all the compute resources we need there may not be any differences in Gen1 and Gen2. Then again Gen2 may include things like an IR receiver/transmitter etc. We need to work out as a group exactly what it is going to be. Because the core already exists it is much easier to try different configurations of peripherals on a small quantity basis and see what works and people really want before putting together the Gen2 boards. After this if there is interest in things like a boom we can work on that as well, or maybe an LCD touch screen etc. John S. That would be number one thing I would try still keeping it 255.255.252.0 On all hosts and then see if the server broadcast work ( players automatically finding the server via udp broadcasts on port 3483 ) If that flunks I would go to the typical small network setup of 255.255.255.0 again on all hosts . Squeezeboxes are a bit peculiar regarding networks , there seems to be some bugg conected to almost all not typical home network settings hence why many uses static ip on them and do not use the dhcp function , for example there is bug in the reciever when the dhcp server is not the typical 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or the corresponding one for networks with 10.x etc as base adress Actually, this is my network at work. The only DHCP server is on a wireless access point that is limited to it's own subnet by a mask of 255.255.255.0. Everything else is static. Re: [slim] This player is already registered to another user
Yes it does. All of the players are there. I'm sure it was there before. I was certainly controlling it from my Android phone. I just couldn't do certain things like play radio stations or podcasts. pyewackett's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9172 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98033 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Other than that the AP is only an AP not in fact a router that forms it own network conected via the wan port to the rest off the office, can it port forward if that where the case . You can specify the server adress manually to the player. But then agian it is probably assumed that subnet and the network is the same . Conecting a server on one network to a player on another network , then I assume setting upmsomemportforwarding in the NAT between the networks will make it work . Are you streaming from you home to your office ? The simple unsafe way here is to port forward all LMS ports at home and then your external ip is the server adress for the player . Re: [slim] NAS Help
Look for a NAS of a well known brand (good support and wide spread). It is preferred to have a NAS with an Intel based architecture but it is not a requirement. ARM based will work well too considering you select one with enough processing power. Im using a ReadyNAS NVX (Intel based) and that works like a charm. The ULTRA series of ReadyNAS are a very good choice as well: http://www.readynas.com/?cat=88 I recently bought a single drive NAS to back up my ReadyNAS and I use this one when Im travelling as well. When traveling it runs LMS too. This one does not have an Intel based processor but it works very well too. It is a QNAP TS-119p II http://www.qnap.com/en/index.php?lang=ensn=822c=351sc=514t=524n=3363 There is also a TS-219p II who has two hard drives. That would be a better choice if this is your main NAS.
