About the connector cable, I am afraid I have a slight tendency to break
small ZIF connectors… However, I don't really see a way around. I am
sure having access to all these interfaces will please a lot of people.

Does it make sense to ask said adapter board to support an IR
receiver/decoder ? I know the task is supposed to be handled by an usb
device, but I'm not sure I'd like to use that (hanging off the back,
 line-of-sight…)

And again, thanks for your hard work, John.

Are you talking about the dual row .1 inch headers sometimes seen on
Motherboards for connecting USB? I don't see why that would be better
over having a real USB connector on the board. Those headers are NOT
proper impedance, just cheap, putting a real connector on the board is
much better from a signal integrity standpoint and takes up less room on
the board.

For an IR receiver if you want an internal one just use one of the
internal USB connectors. That's one of the things that will be talked
about during the beta period, is a builtin front panel receiver
something we have to have.

[slim] New Squeezebox Classic For Sale (UK)

2013-07-03 Thread ReValveiT

Logitech Squeezebox Classic for sale. I acquired this brand new and
sealed less than a month ago. I did an unboxing video (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xg4mByaDMdQ ) to check the contents and
make sure everything was in full working order then back into the box. I
had planned to keep it as a future collectible but something has come up
and I now need to sell.

I'm looking for £105 shipped within the UK, or £100 collected from the
Huddersfield area, West Yorkshire.

Payment by Paypal Gift, Bank Transfer or cash on collection.

you can check my ebay feedback here :
http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2userid=diffuseit_co_ukftab=AllFeedback

Would be nice for this to go to someone on the forum, but if there's no
interest I will be putting it on ebay.

Cheers guys.

Surprised that this unit shows a Logitech face plate (and remote), yet
the plastic shell has slimdevices stamped in the back.
All my Logitech-era SB3s have a plain back.

A new SB3 is always an excellent choice, anyway.

Cool idea. Interested to learn how good it works IRL.

I thought the same at first, but a quick glance through ebay completed
listings reveal it's quite common.

Probably one of the earlier ones before they altered the tooling.

John,
I cannot wait for your board to be released! Please keep us updated on
the progress as the release draws closer. In regards to your question
on micro or mini USB, my vote is for micro as you can find the Micro USB
OTG to USB 2.0 Adapters very cheap on amazon, etc.

I agree with epoch1970 and also always break ZIF connectors...but that
maybe the best option considering the space you have.

Thank you again for your hard work and dedication to this project. I
look forward to seeing/auditioning the end result!

PS - any more news on the amazing sounds these new chips produce?

I've been doing some initial work on the CSP1 layout and it looks like
there is going to be a little bit of spare area so I'm going to put some
internal connectors on the board. I've decided to use a 7 port USB hub
chip, there will be 4 ports on the back and 3 internal ports. Two of
the ports on the back will be full size type A ports and the other two
will be small ones. The internal ports will be small as well. So which
do I use, mini or micro ports? They both use about the same board
space so I can go either way.

I'm also considering putting things like SPI, I2C, LVDS display and the
paralel LCD interface on connectors. The problem is what connector to
use. Most DIY types like to use the .1 dual row sockets, but they take
up a LOT of room, I don't have that much room. My favorite is the .5mm
FFC cable connectors, they are small, reliable, cheap and come in large
numbers of pins. BUT that pretty much means a custom board on the other
side to mate with the cable. I could do a simple adapter board which I
could make available to those that wanted to tinker. (price would be
somewhere between $50 and $15 depending on how many are made)

 Any thoughts on these?

John,
With the Quad Wandboards out now with SATA support, have you considered
adding SATA to your carrier board? And if so, what do you think about
including a power connector for a SATA drive to make powering an
internal drive very clean and easy to hookup for simpletons like myself.
I would love to be able to place a 2.5in SATA drive in an enclosure
with your carrier board and a Quad WB.

It is very exciting to follow your progress and can't say thanks enough
for all the time and effort you have put into this project. And thanks
to Clive and Adrian also. It was a breeze to setup and get my WB
working.

Thanks!
