Re: [slim] Android TV Sticks/Boxes as Squeezebox Replacement
Very nice. I may have to spend my money on your player app, which I've been putting off as I have too many real SB boxes. I bought a Rikomagiv RK809IV to play with but so far it's not great on video playback, but I am going to be testing other ROMs and even Ubuntu soon. One thing that did spring to mind was that now with real HDMI and not just S/PDIF I should in theory be able to playback multichannel DVD Audio rips. No idea what the Squeeze platform (server, your player etc.) might do with that - any ideas? I assume the ability to decode multichannel FLAC and then stream multichannel LPCM over the HDMI will not be a native function - any guesses if this is feasible? I have the luxury of two living rooms, one for music with a 2.0 (going to test an old subwoofer to maybe go 2.1 soon) and the other the TV/movie room with a nice 5.1 setup- currently an SB Touch in each. I used to have some spare money once :) Peter Peter Galbavy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32718 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=99865 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] SQLite Browser for Windows
Interesting... I went out to the MP3Tag forum to see about rounding the TBPM to the nearest integer and believe it or not this is the most recent topic! http://forums.mp3tag.de/index.php?showtopic=17760 In that thread there's a link to a older thread that has action code from Moonbase that seems to work flawlessly to do this rounding. If anyone is interested here's the link to that; http://forums.mp3tag.de/index.php?showtopic=8295 I originally was going to just use the function to trim the last 3 characters of TBPM (the .nn part), but thought I'd look to see if someone had invented a $round function since it's not a native MP3Tag action code function and found that there is! This is a way better approach, if you did the trim method twice you destroy the field. You can run the round function as much as you want and if the TBPM has already been rounded it stays the same. Be aware that if TBPM is null it will be set to 0, you could always add a last function test to reset to null if TBPM is 0. 2 Duets - 1 for upstairs and 1 for downstairs Rock Solid with LMS 7.7.3 and WHS 2011 w3wilkes's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22973 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=99852 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] What should replace my Squeezebox system?
Hi, I know it's really bad of me posting something like this here, but it's time for it I feel. I've been an avid fan of Slim Devices and bought the first Squeezebox when it came out (2004?) after I enjoyed a friends SliMP3-powered (6 rooms) house. I've since added 2 Classics and two Radio. the server is an now old HP X510 Data Vault running WHS. I feel everything is getting too old now. The WHS eats disks because it was never meant to be able to handle these 2TB WD RED disks. Then Logitech went and killed the Squeezeboxes in favour of the UE. I've had several issues with the Media Center as well. So, I need to change my setup. But to what? I'd really prefer to keep the 4 2TB WD RED disks, put them in a new cheap server running maybe Windows Server 2012 Foundation and Media Center on top of that. Is it possible? Or should I opt for a NAS? Then which one? (I want to be able to do backups of my 3 Macbook Pro's too really) And the players... I wanted to replace the radios in favour of Touch and maybe the Classics too. But now, I'm not sure. Sonos? No, I don't want to be like everyone else. AppleTV - despite not being audiophile, it was descent enough. But it was horrible to play different music in different rooms or synced in all or a ew rooms. So now the two AppleTV's only serve Netflix and iTunes movies. So guys, plaase help me out! I want good audio quality, from a manufacturer that will be here in 5 -10 years time. Serving 200GB music and if possible act as a backup for my Macbooks. Last thing is low priority though. Want to play both FLAC, MP3, AAC (protected and non-, either native or transcoded to FLAC/MP3) and OGG (Spotify). Want to be able to play synced in zones or different music in each zone. App-controlled of course (I love Squeezepad and iPeng is pretty ok on the phone). Hlp! :) Oh, the same price point. Not some Meridian, Krell etc super xpensive stuff. nicky6's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3258 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=99871 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

ATM, there's no better alternative out there; you've named the top contenders and they all have trade-offs. I can understand wanting something new but what exactly is your issue with the Squeezebox system you have? Sounds like it does what you want, but you have server problems. Why not build a server with all the RAID you need and run linux version of LMS? Get a small SSD or USB drive for your system and recycle your four WD hard drives for storage. Parts will run you about $300 at newegg and assembly will take an hour or so. May be a bit painstaking to configure -- 'Vortexbox' (http://vortexbox.org) is probably the easiest place to start -- but afterward should be stable and bulletproof. Others on the Forum will help you along the way. Run XBMC on it and you can serve up video as well. If you prefer Windows, go that way; it doesn't really matter. My advice is not to get a NAS; none seem to have enough CPU power that they don't eventually get stressed out by the demands of a larger media library. If you're worried about scarcity of SB hardware, get up to speed on development work by other Forum members referenced above. I am particularly interested in this investigation into low-cost android player options: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?99865-Android-TV-Sticks-Boxes-as-Squeezebox-Replacement Maybe best to get a Time Capsule to back up your Macs. Re: [slim] SQLite Browser for Windows
This should be my last entry on this... Using the SQL Playlist plugin I created a Advanced Playlist with Genre=Rock and Year =1990 and Year =1970 to get a template. Then I edited the SQL to change the year criteria to bpm values... -- PlaylistName:TestBPM -- PlaylistGroups: select tracks.url from tracks left join dynamicplaylist_history on tracks.id=dynamicplaylist_history.id and dynamicplaylist_history.client='PlaylistPlayer' join genre_track on tracks.id=genre_track.track join genres on genres.id=genre_track.genre and genres.name='Rock' where tracks.audio=1 and dynamicplaylist_history.id is null and tracks.bpm = 119 and tracks.bpm = 121 group by tracks.id order by random() limit 10; I knew that with the BPM test data I'd added to the database that there were 3 38 Special songs that would match up. This works GREAT! You could easily add criteria to get further limits like adding year stuff to the end of the where section to limit this to the 60's Rock (for those of us that are old and have a bunch of the old 60's rock roll). and tracks.year = 1960 and tracks.year = 1969 Hopefully some of you may find all this info useful, Enjoy. 2 Duets - 1 for upstairs and 1 for downstairs Rock Solid with LMS 7.7.3 and WHS 2011 w3wilkes's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22973 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=99852 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Truth be told though the tinkering is no different to setting up a media server - in fact I'd say it's quite a bit simpler given OS's like Vortexbox where all the heavy lifting has been done for you. If you need additional hardware the Wandboard is a brilliant way to add Squeezebox capability to any room with minimal hassle. The Wandboard actually makes a great LMS host as well, so if you're up for a bit of tinkering there's a no compromise path. If not, you're headed don the road of compromise e.g. Sonos can only handle a finite number of tracks. digital groove | 'Vivere DAC MKI' (http://vivereaudio.com/post/2013/08/16/DAC-I-is-Born!.aspx) | 'ATC SCA2' (http://www.atcloudspeakers.co.uk/hi-fi/electronics/source-pre-amplifiers/sca2/) | 'ATC SCM100ASLT' (http://www.atcloudspeakers.co.uk/hi-fi/loudspeakers/tower-series/scm100aslt/) *'Linux finally gets a great audio tagger' (http://www.ubuntugeek.com/linux-finally-gets-a-great-audio-tagger.html): 'puddletag' (http://puddletag.sourceforge.net/)* - now packaged in most Linux distributions. audiomuze's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33613 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=99871 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
